Chapter 138

Isabel’s grandfather was a leader in the literary industry. He held an unchallenged position of authority.

Although the Fisher family was not as prominent as the Barlow family, the Barlow family could leverage their association with the Fisher family to bolster their own standing in the literary industry.

Isabel was chosen by Sonia herself as her granddaughter–in–law after having considered both Isabel’s background and qualities..

Initially, Anderson considered many factors.

With their century–old legacy, the Barlow family had connections that spanned from the business world to political industries. Their influence

was pervasive.

Otherwise, how could the Barlow family be so dominant in Belchester? As the sole heir of the Barlow family, Anderson wielded far more power than anyone imagined.

Even if the Barlow family were to lose their standing one day, the network that George built could still enable Anderson to rise again. It was futile and presumptuous to challenge the Barlow family. Anderson might disregard the Fisher family, but he wouldn’t disregard Isabel.

After dropping Mayra off at school, Anderson drove to Candor City.

He would likely stay there for two weeks.

He no longer insisted on her attending extracurricular classes.

Before leaving the car, Mayra noticed Anderson’s headache returning, probably because he didn’t rest well the previous night.

It was partly her fault last night. She instinctively relied too much on Anderson, seeking him out whenever she felt unwell.

Julia’s warning still echoed in her ears. She decided it would be best to keep a distance from Anderson in the future.

After two afternoon classes, the last one being physical education, Mayra changed into her sportswear in the locker room.

A tall girl with a high ponytail approached Mayra with her hands behind her back. Dimples appeared on her face as she smiled sweetly. “Hi, Mayra!

Mayra, who was tying her shoelaces with one foot on a chair, felt a tap on her shoulder. Turning around, she was immediately drawn to the girl’s ample, shapely chest.

“Do we know each other?” Her vigilance toward strangers was instinctual.

“I’m Serena Smith, and I specialize in art and dance. The person who dropped you off today was your brother, right? My birthday is next week. Would you like to join us?”

Mayra declined politely, “Sorry, I’m busy.”

She was used to being alone and sensed Serena had ulterior motives in approaching her, especially after mentioning Anderson. Mayra left the changing room after locking her schoolbag in the locker.

They were dismissed after running four laps and completing their warm-

up exercises. NôvelDrama.Org owns this text.

She texted Gordon while hiding in the equipment room. Mayra wrote, ” Gordon, are you busy?”

His reply was instant, “Yes, I’m busy.”

She responded while feigning annoyance, “Oh, I’ll leave you to it, then. I won’t bother you.”

She waited nearly ten minutes without a reply from Gordon.

Instead, a piece of tidbit about Anderson popped up on her phone.

“Suspected affair. President of Everton Corporation spends the night at a luxury apartment…”

After zooming in on the paparazzi photos, she recognized the apartment complex as Hailey’s residence. Frowning deeply, she wondered if

Anderson had come home late that night because he had visited Hailey.

She couldn’t imagine the consequences Hailey would have to face if the Barlow family saw this news.

Hailey had helped her before. Mayra felt conflicted as she clutched her phone tightly. She had vowed not to interfere in the Barlow family’s

matters again.

With 15 minutes left before class ended, Mayra glanced at her phone, still without a message from Gordon.

She felt irritated!

She wrote, “Gordon, you blockhead! You deserve to be a widower in your past life. It took you years and you still couldn’t win me over!”
