Chapter 11
I stayed at the orphanage for a while, living a simple yet fulfilling life.
I loved the children–I loved playing with them, teaching them to read and draw, and seeing their joyful smiles. Every day, surrounded by their happy faces, I felt a deep sense of accomplishment. I was able to use my small strength to give these poor children a joyful childhood, helping their lives take a better turn.
This made me feel useful and allowed me to sleep peacefully each night.
Gradually, I forgot the pain of the past–I forgot about Alpha Derick, and I forgot about Veronica.
I truly loved it here, and I loved this way of life even more.
While I improved the lives of these children, I also managed to avoid falling into despair. Thus, I spent six happy months here.
But one day, I stumbled upon news about Alpha Derick online.
“Alpha Derick of the Red Moon Pack, devastated by the loss of his son, launched an attack on rogues but sustained an incurable injury in the war.”
At the same time that I saw this news, I received a call from an unknown number.
“Eileen, it’s Alpha Derick’s mother.”
Sandra’s voice was no longer as strong as it had been six months ago. It was laced with weariness, hoarseness, and profound sorrow.
“What do you want?” I replied calmly.Contentt bel0ngs to N0ve/lDrâ/ma.O(r)g!
“Alpha Derick is dying,” Sandra said, her voice trembling slightly. “He says he wants to see you one last time. I called just to ask… could you come and see him, please?”
In the past, because I was an omega, Sandra always spoke to me in a commanding tone- condescending and arrogant. But this was the first time she spoke to me so politely. There was even a hint of humility and pleading in her voice.
When I didn’t respond, she slowly continued, “In the six months since you left, Alpha Derick has been in immense pain. He spends his days in tears, and even in his dreams, he calls out your name and Hadley’s.
“We have failed you terribly over the years. I apologize for that. Of course, I don’t expect you to forgive us.
“But for the love Alpha Derick has had for you all these years, could you please come to see him and fulfill his final wish?”
“Doctors say he doesn’t have much time left.”
