Frank agreed to Avery's request without hesitation.
Carl and Randy spent half the day reminiscing with Avery. "Avy, after you left, Frank also left the island.
He must have come to Astire. If you need his help, you can contact him privately."
"Do you know his background?" Avery found Frank to be very mysterious. He was a man with so much
ammunition, and she still didn't know what Frank looked like to this day.
The information Andrew dug up was certainly limited, but Frank was different; perhaps he had special
channels to uncover more.
Moreover, Frank's identity was mysterious enough that the mastermind behind the scenes was
unaware of his existence.
"Frank drifted onto our island a few years ago. When he arrived, he was barely alive, saved by Lois. It
seems he had no family and just settled down on our island. But I think Frank must be a formidable
person; his marksmanship is very accurate."
Remembering this, Carl scratched his head sheepishly. "Avy, I was too nervous that day. I almost shot
you by accident. But your ex-husband treated you quite well, as his reflex was to protect you."
The boy, brave and outspoken, didn't hold back praise where it was due despite his dislike.
Avery didn't want to dwell on this topic, patting his head. "You've been given a special opportunity; you
must study hard to stand out in the future and make Lois proud."
"I know, Avy."
Before starting her new job, Avery took the two kids to a renowned local art exhibition, which was
Randy's first close encounter with such artworks.
He was greatly impressed, not even knowing where to look first.
Carl, unable to understand such emotion, shrugged. "They are all bookworms, and he looks like a
painting-worm. What's so good about these boring paintings? To the point of being unable to move?"
Avery laughed lightly. "If you don't like paintings, of course, you can't understand this subtle feeling."
With them, Avery temporarily forgot her vengeance, as if she returned to the carefree days on the
island.
Seeing Randy standing in front of a painting for a long time, she approached. "What are you looking at
so intently?"
Randy then came back to his senses, his eyes gleaming with delight like twinkling stars in the sky.
"Avy, look at this painting. It's so cleverly done."
Avery looked up and was stunned. "This painting..."
It was a depiction of a sunrise in the mountains, the sunlight breaking through like a hatching egg,
casting golden rays down, and draping everything in a layer of gold. All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
Verdant hills rolled beneath a canopy of emerald foliage while birds unfurled their wings against the
sky. A lone squirrel perched on a gnarled branch, clutching a pine cone close, as wisps of smoke
danced upwards from a quaint cottage nestled far off. Nearby, the melody of a mountain stream
whispered secrets as it cascaded down the cliffside.
The picture seemed to encompass all of creation, a scene bursting with life, making one feel the beauty
of existence.
"Avy, do you know who painted this? The person who painted this must have a broad vision and a
beautiful heart."
Avery murmured with pursed red lips. "This is... my work."
"What? Avy, you painted this?" Randy had seen Avery's current style, which was completely different
from the painting in front of him.
Avery herself had almost forgotten that she was once a student of the meticulous painting master
Booker Foerster.
Children of wealthy families receive good cultivation from a young age, and she happened to have a
talent for everything, becoming Booker's last disciple.
This painting was her work at the age of thirteen, and to her surprise, it had been included in the
exhibition.
As she thought back to her once-glorious achievements, they seemed starkly contrasted against her
current state of destitution.
All this was because of a man, which was quite laughable when said out.
As her words faded, Avery heard a stir nearby, as if some important figure had arrived.
Carl, biting on a lollipop, pointed not far away. "Avy, isn't that Ethan?"
Avery looked up to see a familiar figure.
It was Jacob, Layla, and their child, making up the family of three, with Layla holding their child in her
arms and smiling beautifully as she was arm-in-arm with Jacob.
