She’s dead
The morning rays of sunshine were enough to tell her it was daybreak already, she opened her eyes slowly as she tried to get up. The room smelt of vanilla making her miss being the boss lady she had always been.
She got up slowly as her back creaked in pain.
How long was she in bed, she wondered looking across the room.
It wasn’t her room at all but how did she get here and whose room was this?
The room was just like the one she had at home, the only distinguishing feature was the color of the painting and it was designed without her portraits anywhere.
She noticed something that caught her attention, the room had a portrait of her mother, the exact one Nelly showed her the previous day.
On one side was a wardrobe which was close to a pile of shoes which didn’t look like hers, they were all heels only a few where flat.
The type she hated.
The room was empty except for the wardrobe and the dressing table, whoever had the room was probably a fan of spacious room.
The air condition was high as she felt cold and sneezed immediately, she touched her forehead for signs of fever but it was just warm.
She fell back to the bed very confused and puzzled but then she got up again in a haste as she thought of the possibility of being kidnapped.
But who would want to kidnap her and what happened to her last night?
The last she could remember was having dinner with Axl when she suddenly felt dizzy, the memories of when she was laughing came like a wide coverage but then her imaginations became blur.
As she thought, she heard the door creak open.
Nelly smiled immediately their eyes met as she got closer to hug her
Cathy sighed in relief seeing her cousin.
. ‘ How are you feeling now?’ she asked touching her forehead. ‘ You were asleep for more than 12 hours.’
‘ What!’
‘ The drugs must have been too much.’
‘ Drugs? What happened to me? ‘ she asked as soon as she got closer.
Nelly took a long look at her before explaining she was drugged by her husband.
‘Why would my husband want to drug me?’Exclusive content from NôvelDrama.Org.
‘ You still don’t know or you want to pretend about it?’
It was at that point she noticed the lovely dress Nelly was wearing. It was a red sequin gown which stopped right on her knee , the petals placed all over the dress was beautiful and made it look really attractive.
. She wore a diamond necklace which made Cathy a little suspicious of her.
. ‘ I know my husband but why would he want to risk my life? We have already settled this .’
Her comment made Nelly laughed exposing her spanking white teeth .
‘You probably don’t know Axl , his just under some influence. His father is probably the cause of his recent actions.’ She spat with disgust.
‘ Your right, I used to think Mr. Anderson was a good man until today.’
‘Stop talking Cathy , get up and get dressed we have things to do’ she ordered as she walked away not bothering to close the door.
Cathy got on her feet to find if she could get some clothes in the wardrobe but then her eyes ran into a shiny material on the dressing table which had been folded neatly, she didn’t notice that Nelly had brought it as she entered.
She got closer and opened it only to discover it was the same gown Nelly wore only that her’s were of a different colour. Next to the black sequin gown was a jewelry box which was the same design as the one which Nelly had worn.
She had lots of questions on her mind but those questions were probably for later.
She showered and got dressed before leaving the room.
‘You really look beautiful, even without makeup ‘ Nelly complemented from behind making Cathy jump in fright.
She hadn’t noticed that Nelly had been sitting on a coach below the staircase reading a fashion magazine while she was busy admiring the room.
‘ You look lovely too ‘ she gleamed in a smile. ‘We are dressed like we off for some dinner date. Anything happening today?’ she asked quietly.
She wore a broad smile as she got up seductively before moving to get the car keys at the dining table.
‘ We are going to see my mum in the hospital.’
‘ Nelly? Is there any need for a fancy dress?’ She swallowed as she watched her, still feeling a slight headache.
Probably it’s the drug, she guessed.
‘ It’s important for us to dress well and Cathy it’s not like our classy dressing would make her get any better.’ she spat with bitterness.
Her tone was enough to send the ‘Do not talk about her’ signals to Cathy.
In order to avoid pissing her off, she walked out but not without taking a last glance at the house.
Nelly’s Car was a black Lamborghini which she loved instantly, her’s was actually red because she was a fan of red.
All her cars were red , she would have loved her room painting to be red but Axl had complained it was too dark.
They entered and the engine roared in taste and class but it didn’t seem to impress Cathy. She had probably used cars better than this.
‘ You have great luxury but you work in a newspaper company. Doesn’t it seem fishy?’ she asked. It was a question that had been on her mind since the previous day .
‘ It depends on the way you take it Cathy, Remember I am a member of Chester’s family.’ she answered as she controlled the wheels swiftly.
‘ I get that part, but you aren’t part of the company and you don’t manage your dad’s company.’
‘ Cathy, we are in the same situation, the only difference is that am in charge while you allow your father in-law to be in charge.’ she explained.
Cathy gave her a puzzled look and she had to explain that if though she wasn’t the manager of the company , she was still the highest paid.
She further revealed it was her choice to become a worker and could fire the manager at any time she wanted.
If there was something Cathy loved about her cousin, it was her boldness and braveness.
The drive continued until Cathy decided to talk about what transpired .
‘ Axl was shocked when I talked about you yesterday.’
‘ You talked about his ex girlfriend he dumped few days to their wedding.’ she said in mockery which made Cathy roll in laughter.
‘If in the future I get divorce, will you get back to him?’
‘ I don’t go back to the dust bin Cathy, I have the wealthy blood of the Chester’s flowing in my veins.’ she answered with pride.
She smiled and the next moments were filled with melodies from the recorder.
*********
The hospital was the City’s hospital, the most expensive of its kind. She met with the nurse who directed her to the doctor’s office immediately.
‘ Good morning doctor, how are you doing?’ she asked. The doctor was a middle aged man, he wore a white long sleeve shirt on black trousers, the shiny leather shoes matched it and made him look corporate. He didn’t wear a lab coat which made Cathy wonder if he was a doctor or just a specialist.
‘Hello Miss Nelly, how are you doing?’
‘ Am great, this is my cousin Cathy…’ but she was interrupted.
‘ Cathy Chester, we all know her here. Your welcome miss’ he greeted gesturing her to sit.
‘ How may I help you both?’
‘ I want to see my mum.’ she answered in a plea.
‘ You know your mum hasn’t made any improvement since then.’ he looked at her from under his spectacles.
‘ yes I know that, I just want my cousin to have a glimpse of her.’
‘ You have just 5 minutes, hope that’s fine?’
‘ It’s okay, we will go by ourselves .’ she offered as he stood up to walk them out.
He didn’t protest at their decision.
They left the office and got to a room which was where her mum was .
There , in the bed , was a woman probably in her 50’s . Her hair was brown but some patches of grey hair was noticable. Her lips looked cracked and dried. Above her sunken cheeks, her bloodshot eyes were open.
Cathy swallowed as she tried to act brave.
A plastic tube had been pushed up to the woman’s nose. It was connected to a bag of liquid suspended on a hook above the bed.
‘ Is she breathing?’
‘ Yes, the doctor said she’s alive but can’t move or talk ‘ she answered as she touched her mother’s forehead .
‘ I guess it’s Coma’ she whispered.
Cathy looked at her again, her eyes were widely open and she caught her blinking several times which made her wonder if she could see her.
She got closer and took her hands which had gone cold into her palms as she rubbed them so that it could be warm. She pressed a finger to her mouth and checked the monitor.
The woman’s blood pressure was 87 over 50. It was dangerously low.
The woman stared at her without saying anything . She was too weak to talk to her.
But suddenly she felt the woman’s hands moving as she made writing on the bed.
Not really understanding the situation she yelled
‘ Get her a pen Nelly, she wants to write something!’
Within seconds a pen and a paper was brought to her as she tried to scribble something .
She wrote something which Cathy read as ,
‘ He killed your father.’
They were shocked because it didn’t mean anything, as they tried to get more information Cathy discovered she was no longer breathing.
She screamed hard which brought the attention of the doctors and nurses.
The doctors didn’t need to ask what the matter was, only the sight they saw were enough to send the hurtful message.
The doctor walked closer as he checked the tubes connected to her. From his expression Cathy knew something was wrong.
‘ what happened?’ she asked in a flare.
‘ Wrong medication, I guess she was poisoned ‘ he answered not daring to look at her face.
‘ Poisoned? You mean my mum was poisoned here in the hospital?’ This time the outburst came from Nelly as she held the doctor by the collar making it difficult for him to breathe.
