Chapter 4 by Lorelei Thunder
They were finally divorced! But somehow, Pamela noticed that she wasn’t as happy as she thought she’d be.
Still, she maintained a strong attitude and said, “Only the weak regard their worthless pride and ego so highly. You will definitely regret rejecting all these.
“I’ll save the things for you. Anytime you change your mind, you can contact Ms. Warren.”
Thoroughly disappointed in Pamela, Woody turned to leave.
Pamela felt a sharp stab in her heart as she watched him leave. With complex emotions, she asked, “Miriam, is what I’m doing … wrong?”
“Of course not! Only by kicking away this stumbling block will you be able to attain your goal of becoming the most successful businesswoman.
“Woody is destined to be a nobody who’s never going to be good enough for you. He’ll only hinder your success,” Miriam affirmed with confidence.
Pamela didn’t answer her. Instead, she stood there staring off into space. She felt like she had just lost the most important thing in her life.
Seeing her in such a state, Miriam quickly changed the topic. “I heard that Ms. Cartwright from Cartwright Group is in Centralton. Haven’t you been bummed that you couldn’t meet her in person all this while? This is a great opportunity!
“The Donnels and the Cartwrights are on close terms. We can get Mr. Donnel to introduce you to her. Right, don’t you have a date with him? Don’t be late!”
Pamela was able to attain such success in just three short years because of the Cartwright family. It was quite a miracle, and to this day, Pamela still didn’t quite comprehend how such a good thing had come to her.
There were many companies out there better than York Corporation who would die to partner with Cartwright Group, so it made no sense that they were chosen for the partnership.
Their collaborative projects seemed to be specially made for Pamela, making it almost impossible for her not to make a huge fortune out of them.
She didn’t respond to Miriam. Instead, she pulled her phone out and sent her family a text message to inform them of the divorce.
…
In one of the presidential suites of Hillside Hotel in Tiusto City, Woody was silent as he looked down at the city lights.
His family was no more! How was he going to explain that to Uncle Shane and Aunt Mindy?
Woody didn’t have many friends and family in Tiusto City. His parents had mysteriously gone missing back when he was in high school. Shane Evans, their best friend, had been the one who looked after him all the way till he graduated from university.Têxt © NôvelDrama.Org.
Shane’s family treated him really well, and though they weren’t related by blood, Woody considered them his family. They had even helped him with his wedding arrangements.
As the matter of the divorce had come too suddenly, Woody didn’t want them to worry about him. So, he could only use the card Brayden gave him to get himself a suite in Hillside Hotel for the time being.
Just then, his phone rang. It was an unknown number.
“Hello, is this Dr. Henderson?”
The voice belonged to a lady, and her tone carried a hint of anxiety.
“You must have got the wrong number.”
Woody was quick to deny it. Nobody outside of prison knew him, much less be able to get their hands on his private number.
“When the Majestic Ruler appears, even death runs away in fear! You must be Dr. Henderson!”
Worried that he might hang up on her, the lady quickly introduced herself, “I am Helen Cartwright. It was Grandpa Brayden who gave me your number. My father is Mason Cartwright. He came to you for help with his medical condition three years ago. Do you remember him?
“My father never told us about you. I only found out about you through a diary he keeps locked away in his safe. I made use of my connections to get in touch with Grandpa Brayden to get a favor from him.”
There was no way Woody could forget about Mason Cartwright, for he was Woody’s very first patient.
Back then, Mason had been severely ill. All the major hospitals had diagnosed him with a terminal illness. It had been Woody who had pulled him back from the gates of Hades.
Woody’s brows furrowed. “What do you need from me?”
“My father is on the brink of death. He’s been unconscious for seven days. Please, I’m begging you. Help him!” Helen sounded like she was on the verge of tears.
Woody frowned yet again. “Since you got my number from Brayden, you should know my rules. I never treat a person for the same condition twice. If I couldn’t save him the first time, there’s no point coming to me again.”
There were three conditions under which the Majestic Ruler would refuse to treat a person.
Firstly, he didn’t treat someone dying of natural causes, such as aging. Secondly, he didn’t treat people who brought their conditions upon themselves. Finally, he didn’t treat someone with the same condition twice.
“My father isn’t under any of the three categories. He’d been poisoned, but even the most advanced machines in the world couldn’t tell what the poison was. All the professionals and specialists have their hands tied.”
