Chapter 38- Artemis
We ran into the streets. I had no idea what Daylen did, but thank goodness it worked. I didn’t know how long it would last which was why Daylen and I were running down the muddy streets of the mage dimension.
He grabbed me and pulled me to his chest. I blinked at him a couple times.
“Now Daylen?”
He shot me a look. “We’ll get out of here faster if we’re flying.”
My mouth formed a small o. “Are you sure you want to do that?”
“It doesn’t matter who sees anymore. My secret’s out.”
He took off his hoodie and handed it to me so it wouldn’t be ruined when he summoned his majestic wings. Despite the franticness. I relished the thought of seeing his wings again. I didn’t like the pain on his face, but when the gigantic set of wings came out they shimmered despite the fact that there was no light to shine on them.
He wrapped one arm around my waist and I locked my fingers behind his neck.
“Hold on.”
We sored through the sky, my hair blinded me through most of the flight, but flying was an experience I would never forget. Especially when it was in the arms of the man I loved. When it was over we landed in another murky lane. Daylen winced as he settled.
“Are you okay?” I asked.
Daylen nodded, but the pain of pulling of wings back inside.

I wrapped my arms around his naked chest. His shirt had been destroyed after pulling his wings out.
“Where did you take us babe?” I asked.
He shook his head as he ran his hand up and down my back. “I have no idea. All I wanted was to get away from there.”
I handed him his hoodie and he slipped it on. He gripped my hand and pressed it to his lips.
“Some night this is turning out to be.” He muttered.
“Come on let’s find some place to kick it tonight.”
We didn’t get far when the ground shook and a six-foot-tall man raised from a hunch back positon.
“Apollo.” Daylen and I said at the same time.
“Artemis- You?” Apollo’s gaze went to our entwined hands.
“What are you doing with my sister.” His eyes flashed silver and I stepped forward to calm him down. I didn’t know why I thought that would work I barely knew him.
Daylen groaned, “Don’t throw a fit Apollo.”
“Are you sleeping with my sister?” He growled.
“That’s none of your business!” I stomped my foot and he laughed.
“It is.” He patted my head.
“Haven’t you thought about what my father will do to you when he finds out?”
“He’ll be a lot more pissed when he finds out his daughter’s bound to a dark angel.”
Apollo tugged on his collar, “Goodness Artemis, what have you been up to?”
“Too much apparently.” I sighed. “What are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be fighting to save Olympiad.”
He exhaled, “Solaris withdrew her troops, leaving us shorthanded. Orion returned to Olympiad without you and it turns out he can’t travel to the mage dimension. When I went to Paradis I discovered a mutiny. Everything’s in shambles.”
“I don’t get why Solaris’ hasn’t broken out yet.” Daylen said.
“They’ve got her locked up babe, maybe she really can’t get out.”
“You don’t know her like I do. She’s the most powerful woman in the skies. This isn’t right.”
“Blackmail?” I offered.
“I doubt it.” He mumbled.
“Right, I do hate to break this up, but Artemis we have to go back to Olympiad. Our mother gets weaker each time minute you’re away and Zeus can’t keep everyone safe on his own.”
“What about the other gods?” I whispered.
“Everyone’s trying their best to protect their territories and they’re all drawing power from Zeus.”
Damn it.
“I can’t just leave Apollo… I’m bound to a dark angel. The curse unless we break it is going to bring me back.”
“Fuck.” Apollo spat. I didn’t think gods were supposed to swear. “Then let’s kill this bastard and end things here.”
I looked at Daylen. I knew Alpheus had fallen, but I didn’t want to be responsible for the death of Daylen’s brother.
“We can’t do that… he’s Daylen’s brother.”
Apollo shook his head, his face twisting into confusion.
“Artemis don’t think for that I wouldn’t-”
“No Daylen. We’re not killing anyone, unless it’s me.”
He closed the distance between us and kissed me hard as if he was drawing oxygen to live. The ground beneath us shook. Daylen broke the kiss.
“Grow up Apollo.”
“I don’t need to see this.” He folded his arms and turned the other way.
“I think I can fix this, but you have to trust me Artemis.”
I looked into his eyes and leaned my cheek into his palm. “Of course I trust you.”
“Good. I have a plan, but first we have to break into the castle to see my mother.”
“Mother? Solaris is your mother? Everyone thought you were screwing her. Honestly looked up to you for that.”
I frowned.
Daylen scratched his head. “I need a little time.”
“Don’t worry about it. I’ll help you take back the skies. If Solaris is your mother, then I’m looking at the future King of the skies.”
I entwined my fingers with his and leaned into his side. The future King was mine
