Chapter 456
Chapter 456
I looked down at the glass of milk on the table and felt repulsed by it. I then asked, "Since I've invited
them, shouldn't you give me some form of insurance?"
She shrugged, got up, and went to the bedroom.
When she came out, she held a bag in her hand and looked at me, "It's all in here. These things are of
no use to me, and it's a burden for me to hold onto them. So, I'm giving them all to you."
I dumped everything out and looked at them carefully. These were essential evidence of the influential
men Valerie had been in contact with for the past few years, most of whom were from abroad and
Ucrebury.
She didn't seem to have involved herself with people in Jarold City. This was a smart move; she knew
how important her reputation in Jarold City was. Otherwise, she would be despised by the Moore family
when she returned to Pedro.
"You're giving it all to me? Aren't you afraid that I'll go back on my word?" I asked, putting away the
folder.
She raised her eyebrows, "There's no reason for me to doubt the granddaughter-in-law that my father
had chosen."
Well, that was surprising to hear. I replied, "You know, actually, with your skills, if you return to Ucebury
and become the successor of the Roberts Group, you'd still be able to live a good live in the future."
She looked down and smiled faintly. She stirred the porridge in front of her and said, "I've been in the
Granger Group for ten years. Since the day I entered the group, I have never thought of leaving."
Looking at her, I suddenly thought of Hendrix and couldn't help but say, "It's your sense of duty!"
She paused for a moment, looked at me and asked, "What?"
"It's your sense of duty. Grandpa was a veteran and when he raised you guys, he pretty much instilled
the sense of duty and responsibility in your minds. You didn't leave the Granger Group not because it
benefits you more, but because you were already subconsciously prepared to take over the group
when Yohannes was in talks about the cooperation."
She was stunned. She raised her eyebrows and said, "No wonder my father chose you.
You're quite perceptive!"
She got up and said plainly, "Since we've agreed to work with one another, I hope to hear good news
from you soon."
In the afternoon.
Michael's trial results were out. He was found to be heavily involved in property bribery and accepting
bribes. As his charges were serious, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Across the thick glass wall, looking at his haggard face, he suddenly looked as if he had aged several
years.
When he saw me, he sneered sarcastically, "What? Have you come to laugh at me?"
I looked at him and did not argue back. I just said, "Your family's assets and illegal income have all Têxt © NôvelDrama.Org.
been pledged off. I heard that your daughter is taking her major exam soon. You sent her to a private
school; her tuition fees and lifestyle are quite expensive. With all the assets under your name frozen,
she has no choice but to rely on your wife's money for now. It won't be long until she drops out of
school."
He widened his eyes as he stared at me. His voice cracked as he asked, "What are you trying to do?"
I was not in a hurry to tell him my goal, so I said nonchalantly, "Your wife seems to have found
someone new. She's used to living a good life, so having to suddenly deal with all these hardships
alone...a rich lady like her probably won't be able to take much of this. I hear that your wife is a sight for
sore eyes, though. So, if she's looking for someone new, it won't be hard for her to live a good life with
her looks."
He glared at me and I could feel his anger seeping through the glass, "What the hell do you want?"
"I want intel on all the bribery Valerie has committed. I want it all, from when she began her ascent, and
everything she has experienced in her life!"
He sneered, "You can learn about her life experiences by looking them up on the search engine, so
why ask me? As for the other things you're asking for, I don't know crap about them!"
In the face of his resistance, I collected myself, kept my emotions in check before saying, "Give them to
me, and I will help you take care of your daughter for the next decade. With the Roberts in Ucrebury
and the Reids in Jarold City as her shield, as long as she works hard enough, her future will be full of
endless possibilities. I'm sure you'd want this for her."
He paused, the cogs in his mind turning as he processed my proposal. He then looked up at me and
asked uncertainly, "Are you sure?"
