Chapter 421
Chapter 421
I was perplexed and asked, "Why do we need a wedding ceremony?" Didn't we already have one
before?
He laughed and said, "Our previous wedding ceremony was nothing. Let's hold it a second time and
give ourselves a perfect one. Plus, once you enter the Reid family registry, with how old-fashioned
Charles is, he'd probably want to marry off his daughter in glory. We can fulfill his dreams of marrying
off his daughter that he's had for half his life."
I laughed. "You and Mr. Reid hasn't seen each other more than a few times, and yet you know him so
well. Who knows - maybe he just randomly chose me as his goddaughter."
He then put some grilled meat in my bowl and said, "The people in Jarold City all know that Charles
keeps his word for life. He announced so openly that he wants you to be in the Reid family, so that
means he's put in a lot of thought!"
However, I lowered my head and found it hard to swallow the food in my mouth.
Perhaps Hendrix had noticed the change in my mood, because he took my hand and said,
"Do you want to eat anything else?"
There was enough food on the table so I shook my head and said, "Hendrix, do you think there are any
parents in this world who don't want their children? Mr. Reid is just a person I've met a couple of times,
yet he's willing to want me as his daughter, which means that I'm not that horrible. So, why don't my novelbin
parents want me?"
I suppressed the bitterness in my eyes and felt uncomfortable. Over the past 20 years, I had always
tried to convince myself that life was good without them.
Carol loved me genuinely despite us not being blood related, and that was enough.
But the older I grew and saw others being with their parents and relatives, the more bitter the taste on
my tongue and in my heart. Why was I still alone in the end?
Suddenly, Hendrix stood and walked up to me. He held me in his arms and comforted me by patting
me on the back. "You still have me, don't you?"
After a while, I broke free from his embrace and sighed before giving him a faint smile. "Hendrix, you're
terrible at comforting people." His smile was gentle, and there was a touch of warmth behind his eyes.
"I will try harder next time."
After that, I smiled as I room a few bites. In truth, I had lost my appetite. Hendrix was leaving on a
business trip the next day when I had planned on going back to the villa.
However, Nerissa had been constantly calling, telling and pleading for Hendrix and I to go to the
Granger Mansion. Hendrix was unwilling, but Nerissa seemed almost desperate.
Therefore, he had no choice but to go.
Meanwhile, in the Granger Manor.
Since Hendrix was about to attend a video conference, I was left with nothing to do. Thus, I looked
outside at the snow and breathed in the beautiful scenery.
I decided that I wanted to go downstairs for a walk.
There were many plum blossoms in the yard, and the white snow on the ground was bathed in the
moonlight. It was so beautiful that it looked almost surreal.
I walked a few steps against the falling snow and turned to look back at my footprints. They seemed
oddly alluring in the snow, and it made me feel better.
It was a pity that Hendrix was busy. If he wasn't, we could have a snowball fight!
Thinking of this, I rolled myself a snowball.. The snow was so thick that I was able to make a big one in
no time.
Then, I found just the right spot to throw my newly made snowballs. It didn't take long for this to feel
boring as well.
The snow on the plum blossoms fluttered down gently, bringing with them a little coolness.
I was in the middle of having fun when I saw Irvin approach. I had initially intended to toss my
snowballs at the accumulated snow on the plum blossoms.
But I didn't expect that he would come out of the archway and walk straight into the snowball I threw.
With a splat, it hit him square in the face.
