Chapter 72

Chapter 72

At the time, Yvonne would always grab a plate of fruits from the cabinet for her after she heard her

come home

and said to her gently, “Dinner’s ready soon.”

Candice’s thoughts were drifting, and she lost herself for a while. Only after sitting on the sofa for a

while did she remember that she had to give Jackson a call, asking him to keep an eye on her

grandfather at the nursery

home.

Jackson agreed to it naturally, and Candice felt much better. “Thank you.”

“It’s nothing. My mom’s going to get her review done tomorrow too.” Jackson didn’t mind that much.

Instead, he asked, “How are things between you and Hanley?”

Candice told him honestly, “He’s a good person.”

Jackson laughed. “That’s great. Hanley treats his friend well.”

After her right hand was injured, everything became inconvenient. Candice couldn’t ask anyone else to

help her, so she had to do everything herself slowly.

The next morning when she went downstairs, she accidentally walked into Alex and Nina.

The two of them weren’t in the best of moods. Candice paused a little before going over and asked

Alex, “Can I

take the day off?”

Alex looked at her bandaged hand. “Does it still hurt?”

There wasn’t much emotion in his tone, as if it was just an interaction between a boss and his

employee.

Candice looked down. “Yeah, it’s a bit itchy. I want to go to the hospital to get it checked.”

Alex looked at the bandaged hand for a moment before nodding. “Sure.”

Candice then asked the receptionist to call for a taxi and waited outside the door. It was not until her

figure had left the hotel door did Nina ask Alex, “Are you going to ignore what your mother said?”

Alex’s dark eyes looked at him as he let out a cold laugh. “Nina, I hate people who think they know

better than anyone. The only reason I allow you to come along with me is because of your mother. I

have never allowed

you to interfere with Aether or my family matters.” NôvelDrama.Org owns this text.

Nina’s face was slowly becoming paler. She wanted to explain, but Alex had already started to leave.

He stopped after taking two more steps and turned around to look at Nina. “Don’t contact my mother on

your own, and don’t follow me again. You’re very annoying.”

Alex immediately left after saying that, leaving Nina behind, who looked shaken.

Meanwhile, Candice entered a cab outside the hotel door and went to a nearby Level 1 hospital.

The swelling on Candice’s hand didn’t recede much. The doctor put on some more medicine but no

longer bandaged her hand with gauze, simply asking her to pay more attention.

She waited for the medicine in her hand to dry off before slowly leaving.

Coincidentally, she had just left the department and ran into Hanley at the hospital lobby directly.

Hanley was also holding a number in his hand, and the two of them were both stunned.

Candice started the conversation first. “Why are you at the hospital again?”

“The wound’s infected, so I came to get it re-bandaged,” Hanley said with a frown, looking very

uncomfortable.

Candice furrowed her eyebrows and then raised her arm. “Same here.”

The truth was that the clinic was unreliable. Hanley’s hand swelling was even more terrible than

Candice’s in appearance. She went with him to get his dressing changed before asking. “Why didn’t

you come over yesterday when you’re not feeling well?”

Hanley said, “I was too busy yesterday and didn’t realize it.”

“That busy?” Candice couldn’t help but look at Hanley’s injury.

“Yeah,” Hanley said. “My personal assistant had an emergency and had to go home, and I couldn’t find

anyone to help in such a short time.”

And then, he raised his chin, letting Candice see the dark circles under his eyes.

Suddenly, Hanley gave her a glance with those seductive eyes of his. “Do you want to try?”
