Chapter 232

Chapter 232

Candice didn’t know how much strength Ivor had used, but her shoulder was in excruciating pain, and

that whole side of her body was weak.

It was hard to imagine just how badly she would have been injured if the punch had hit her in the face

as he had intended.

“What are you looking at? What does it have to do with you? I’m not looking for you right now!”

Candice was bent over from the pain, but she heard Ivor’s words.

She bit her bottom lip to stop herself from crying out in pain, and raised her eyes to look at Alex.

Alex looked cold and elegant where he stood. He looked at Ivor, his face not revealing any

emotions. However, when Ivor met his gaze, he shuddered inexplicably.

Candice looked at Alex’s figure, panting, and spoke with great difficulty. “Alex, can you wait for a

while before leaving?”

Just speaking made her shoulder hurt more, and she completed the sentence very slowly.

She feared that Ivor would get back up, and her situation was bad. If Alex was willing to wait for a

while, she would at least be a little safer.

Alex heard her words and did not move.

After a while, he looked aside slightly and saw that his jaw was very tight.

Candice guessed he didn’t want to stay. She lifted her phone. “I’m going to call the police. You just

have to wait for a little while.” Her lips were pale and bloodless.

Alex looked down at her. “How miserable.”

Candice smiled self–deprecatingly. Deceived by her own mother, and beaten so badly by her step-

father. And now she was still begging Alex, just so she could feel braver.

She was indeed miserable.

Although Alex said this, he did not leave, however. Content is property of NôvelDrama.Org.

Candice felt relieved, but her shoulder hurt so much that she couldn’t help but gasp a couple of

times.

The hospital security arrived before the police. They asked about the situation, and then

restrained Ivor.

He was still groaning, his expression full of pain. When he looked at Candice, however, his eyes were

filled with shocking hatred.

The police soon arrived. Although they were outside the lobby, there was still a surveillance camera

and it was determined that Candice had acted in self–defense. The police briefly took down her contact

before leaving.

As it all happened, Alex remained by Candice’s side, saying nothing.

After the police led Ivor away, Candice looked at him and said softly. “Thank you.”

Alex’s expression remained icy, and he did not reply to Candice. His expression was serious as he

reached out and touched Candice’s injured shoulder.

Piercing pain surged through Candice, and she grimaced.

Alex scoffed. “I thought you had lost all sense of pain.” He walked off.

Candice stood where she was, the pain growing unbearable.

Alex stopped up ahead. He turned and looked back at Candice. “Do you need me to invite you to

the ER?”

Candice’s forehead was covered with sweat from the pain. She glanced at Alex before slowly

walking toward the ER.

It was incredibly painful, each step sending another shot of pain through her body.

Her night blindness made things worse. In order to get to the ER, she needed to pass through small

alley and there were no street lamps. She walked even slower.

Alex had long legs, but the whole time he maintained the distance of half a step from her.

Candice could barely see his back, so she never thought of using her phone light, but instead

followed behind Alex, walking slowly.

The small alley was no more than a dozen meters away, but Candice followed behind Alex for a full five

minutes.

Neither spoke, or knew what to say. Only the sound of slow footsteps echoed in the night.

The door to the ER was at the end of the alley. The light flooded the area.

With a few more steps, Alex seemed to disappear. Candice lowered her gaze. He probably still

remembered her night blindness and had purposely accompanied her.
