My Mirror Image by Maybe Not (Candice And Alex’s)

Chapter 0425

Chapter 0425

After a moment of silence, the coldness in Candice's eyes deepened. "Defamation?"

She guessed that Sonia wouldn’t just admit her mistake, but she didn’t expect her to make a counterattack.

"Candy, you better prepare yourself. Sonia's lawyer is from Solaris and is quite famous for handling cases where they managed to overturn verdicts."

When she heard the word Solaris, Candice thought of the settlement agreement in the police station. She lowered her eyes slightly, pursed her lips, and buried her thoughts. Nôvel(D)rama.Org's content.

Jackson couldn’t say much more and could only remind Candice to be careful. It seemed he was busy too, as the call ended soon after.

Candice stood still in silence for a while, then turned and went into the bathroom.

-

The call from Dorrington Police came early the next morning, informing Candice of the situation and asking her to return to Dorrington as soon as possible.

Apart from Sonia's issue, there was also Yvonne. It was said that she was not in a good mental state now and would suddenly start cursing Ivor before breaking down in tears.

Candice didn’t react much, and just casually responded to the police.

After hanging up, she looked at the documents on the table and sighed slightly. It was already Thursday, and Jensen's flight back to Solaris was on Monday next week. In the meantime, she had to prepare another set of materials to be submitted directly to Jensen. Time was tight.

But fortunately, she had originally planned to study the plan calmly these days, so she had no other arrangements. Going back to Dorrington wouldn’t delay anything, it only meant that she would have to put in a little more effort.

After hesitating for a moment, Candice made up her mind.

She called Hanley and explained the situation. Hanley told her to go back and handle things first, but the only trouble now was Barox.

He was still injured and resting in his room. If Candice went back to Dorrington, there would be no one to take care of him.

As it turned out, her worries were unnecessary. She had just finished her call to Hanley, and hadn’t even started packing yet, when there was a knock on the door.

Candice opened the door, and Barox leaned against the door frame. He was still limping, and his lower leg was bulged from the bandage wrapped around it.

Candice was hesitant, thinking about how to arrange things for Barox, when he said flatly, "There's something going on at my mentor's house, and I have to go back immediately."

There was a neatly packed suitcase behind him. Candice nodded. "I'll go with you."

Barox looked at her strangely. "I don't blame you for my injury, you don't have to take care of me so diligently." He added slowly, "It could be misunderstood if someone sees us."

Candice couldn’t keep up with Barox's thoughts and didn’t want to explain either. She packed her luggage, bought the earliest flight ticket, and went downstairs to head to the airport.

She didn’t expect to run into old Mr. Elysian in the hotel lobby.

Bruno was following him, also carrying luggage. The old man saw the luggage in Candice's hand and was slightly surprised. "Candy, are you going back too?"

"There's something urgent, so I have to go back and deal with it."

"Well, that's perfect. Lex was just about to take me to the airport, so we can go together."

Following his words, Candice looked up and saw Alex standing there with a cold expression. His gaze fell on Candice's suitcase, and he frowned lightly.

Before he could speak, Candice took the lead. "It's not necessary, Grandpa. Just let Alex take you." She then looked at Barox beside her. "After all, he's a little restricted."

A soft chuckle rang out.

Alex looked at Candice, his black eyes swirling with emotions, which slowly calmed down. He spoke softly, "Going back to Dorrington now, do you mean not to care about Jensen anymore?"

"I will come back in time," Candice said, lifting her gaze. Although she tried to appear calm, the anxiety in her eyes could not be hidden.

Alex paused, raising his eyebrows slightly, and asked thoughtfully, "Because of that matter?"

Candice glanced at her phone. Since she had bought the ticket at the last minute, she was running out of time.

She exchanged a few more words with the old man, and was about to leave when Shawn stopped her. "You seem to be in a hurry. It's not easy to get a taxi at this time. You..."

Before Shawn could say anything more and before Candice could react, she felt her suitcase being taken away. Alex stood in front of her, looking down at her with a clear but not cold attitude. "Since

you're in a hurry, don't hesitate anymore."

With that, he picked up the suitcase and strode towards the door.

Candice was momentarily stunned. She would still feel the warmth of Alex’s fingertip where it had brushed the back of her hand when he took her suitcase.

Candice lowered her head and bit her lip.

The old man looked quite pleased. "Good, good, let Lex take you. I wanted to rest a little longer anyway."

Candice also knew that it was the best solution at the moment and followed after him.

However, when she was about to get into the car, intending to sit in the backseat with Barox, she heard Alex calmly say, "I'm not your driver."

Candice withdrew her hand and turned to open the front passenger door.

Barox was sitting in the back playing with his phone. At Alex's words, he looked up and clicked his tongue lightly. "Mr. Elysian is so particular now. He didn't seem to think so much when he was our taxi driver before."

Barox occupied the entire back seat, his expression relaxed, not bothering to accommodate his injured leg, which he placed directly on the seat. It was impolite, but it was what Yana taught him to do. She had said, "Irritate Alex, go all out to irritate him."

And Barox always tried his best to fulfill Yana's requests.

Alex glanced at him through the rearview mirror, his black eyes calm and unmoved, showing no sign of being affected.

Only a hint of coldness lifted the corner of his lips. "Mr. Gort’s laboratory mustn’t be short of money, otherwise, you wouldn't have been in Solaris for a month without trying to attract investment."

Barox raised an eyebrow. "Since Mr. Elysian is asking about it, could it be that he is thinking about investing in me?" he asked very frankly, as if he had not heard Alex's sarcasm at all. He even added on, "But it might be difficult for Mr. Elysian to invest. After all, my mentor doesn't accept investments from just anyone. Unscrupulous capitalists, for example, are absolutely out of the question."

Everyone fell silent after that.

-

Candice made it to the airport just in time. Before she got out of the car, she decided to tell Alex. "Sonia has hired a lawyer to sue me for defamation." She looked at Alex. "Do you know who her lawyer is?"

With one hand resting on the steering wheel, the dim light in the underground parking lot made Alex's face appear somewhat blurry. He was stunned momentarily before asking Candice. "Who is it?"

"Quil Lawson. He’s got a reputation for overturning cases. His previous client was Jarvis Fowler. Do you think that with Sonia's abilities alone that she’d be able to hire Quil?"
