Chapter Seven
Corinna
My stomach rumbled loudly through out the dim cell, I had no idea how many days it had been since I
found myself locked in here but all I knew was, I was thirsty and I was starving. I found myself mostly
sleeping despite the cold temperature and uncomfortable position I was in.
When I wasn't sleeping mum and I were talking, trying our best to somewhat catch up on the many
years we missed out on together. It was nice, getting to know her again even though I didn't know how
long it would be for. I had been in a constant state of anxiety and paranoia since the mention of my
uncle, every time I hear footsteps coming toward the cell I hold my breath until I see it's not him
standing at the metal door.
Luckily he has been a no show so far.
My head snaps up when I hear light footsteps running towards the cell door, my eyebrows furrow until
the door swings open to reveal my human companion. Gia rushes into the cell panting heavily with a
set of keys in her hand, she quickly unchains me.
" come on, you have to go before Jack notices I'm gone. " she rushes through her words tugging on my
arm.
" wait, unlock her too. " I motion to my mum, who is only now waking up.
" what's going on Rina? " My mum's voice cracks as she speaks.
" Gia is getting us out of here mum. " I grin at her.
" Mum? " Gia voices, more to herself sounding awfully confused.
Silently I grab the keys from her hands to unchain my mum, when she's free the three of us exit the
cell, Gia and I stand on either side of mum holding onto her arms to help her walk as quickly as she Please check at N/ôvel(D)rama.Org.
can. We speed walk down a narrow stone hall lined with tonnes of cells just like the one we were kept
in until we reach a set of stone steps.
My eyes follow up the steps and I find myself squinting at the light at the top of them, we rush up the
steps until we find ourselves in a stone hut like structure in the woods about a yard away from a huge
mansion like house.
" Okay from what I've gathered, if you run in that direction it's the quickest way off Jack's land. " Gia
says, pointing to beyond the mansion, that I'm guessing is the pack house.
The three of us begin to make our way in that direction, not as fast as I was hoping considering mum's
current state.
" So Jack huh? " I send a sly smirk to Gia who blushes.
" He is really lovely.. Other than keeping you locked up. " she mumbles.
" As long as your happy Gia but if he puts one paw out of line, I'll kick his ass. " I smile at her when she
lets out a snort. " I'm guessing you'll be staying behind then? "
She frowns a little. " Yeah.. I'm sorry. Please don't be mad? "
" I'm not. Just be careful. " I tell her, grabbing her hand and giving it a light squeeze.
" He's good to me, the way a boyfriend should be... Well mate in this case, I'm still getting used to it all.
" she admits with a small smile.
As we get closer to the end of the territory, I hear footsteps running from behind us. I curse under my
breath trying to help my mum speed up, but it's no use. " I'm going to have to shift, mum you'll get on
my back. "
My mum nods. I quickly lean over and give Gia a hug. " Good luck. "
" You too. Be safe. " She mumbles.
We pull away and in instantly shift into my wolf, Gia helps mum onto my back and I start to sprint away,
from behind me I can hear that Jack has reached his mate.
" Please Jack! She's my friend! " Gia pleads.
" She killed one of my pack members G! " He yells.
" Please. She may have killed one of your wolves but remember she also saved my life. You wouldn't
have a mate if it wasn't for her. " My friend defends me.
" G... I don't... " Alpha Jack trails off.
" Jack, just give her a chance okay? For me please? " She begs then continues when he doesn't reply.
" I won't forgive you if something happens to her because of you. " she snaps.
The alpha lets out a sigh. " Fine. I'll give her a chance. "
Gia squeals happily thanking him repeatedly, I let out a howl of thanks while I continue to run, now past
the territory line. After another while of running, I pick up on an awfully familiar scent that makes me
tense and speed up dramatically.
" Rina? What's wrong? " Mum calls from on my back. Only I can't tell her.
A whimper escapes me as I hear the thunder of at least twenty wolves running through the forest
towards us, I push myself to run faster, jumping slightly when I hear a furious snarl from not far behind
me.
A wolf attacks me causing me to go rolling across the dirt of the forest floor and my mum to fly off of my
back and land on the ground with a loud thud. I force myself off the ground straight away standing in
front of my mum to attempt to protect her, I look at the dirty blonde wolf immediately recognising him as
my cousin Elliot.
It doesn't take long for my father's large grey wolf to make an appearance along with multiple wolves
from my old pack and my uncle's huge black wolf who comes stalking right between the group of
wolves who part for him.
One of the other wolves leap at me, not waiting for orders, but I easily bite into her neck with my
canines ripping out a chunk of her flesh, within seconds she has bled out in the dirt. A bunch of the
other wolves snarl, running at me.
The first one tries to leap onto my back but I slice my claws through her stomach and she falls to the
ground whimpering. The second bites down onto my side, I growl loudly snapping my jaws down onto
his back leg, he eventually lets go of my side which gushes blood as I circle him another wolf comes at
me, biting into my ear as we tumble around. I manage to pin him to the ground and claw out his throat.
Blood drips down my neck from the wound on my ear as I charge for the wolf who bit my side, he
manages to claw the top of my head but while his stomach is exposed I bite into it ripping it open. I
back away closer to my mum, who climbs onto my back once more and I take off running away from
my uncle, cousin and dad who at hot on my tail.
I weave in and out of trees, jumping over rocks and logs. The trees begin to thin and there are less and
less of them as we get closer to a large cliff. I skid to a top right at the edge looking down to see waves
crashing up against the rocks, I turn my head back to where my family are closing in on me.
Gulping I back up a bit, I turn to look back again when I hear my dad's voice. He has shifted back and
how had a knife in his hand. As he lifts his arm to throw it, I sprint to the edge of the cliff jumping off of
it, praying that mum knows how to swim.
