back.
Skylar’s eyes darkened. She thought, “What was Claudio holding back from saying?”
He wanted to say more but had hesitated, stopping himself just in time. She wondered if Claudio and the rest of the Martin family were scheming something behind the scenes again. It seemed Joe’s earlier lesson hadn’t been enough for them.
“Anyway, if you don’t apologize, and make it up to me right now, I won’t give you the chance to find me in the future.” Claudio sneered.
He was already imagining a time when Joe would become useless and the entire Martin family would be under his control. When that day came, everything he wanted, especially Skylar,
would be within his reach.
By then, she would come begging him for attention and only be good for a few nights with
him.
Without paying Claudio any more attention, Skylar quickly walked away. Seeing how decisively she had left without a shred of hesitation, Claudio’s expression darkened.
“Who is that woman anyway, Mr. Martin? She’s way too arrogant. How dare she talk to you like that?” Sasha finally snapped back to reality and complained.
Claudio’s face grew even darker at her words. “Shut up! Get lost!” he snapped at her.
It wouldn’t have bothered him if he hadn’t run into Skylar. But now that he had, Claudio ‘couldn’t help but notice how Sasha by his side paled in comparison to her. She had a decent figure, but beyond that, she was nothing.
Sasha’s face turned pale. She bit her lip, stomped her foot angrily, and stormed off. These trust fund babies were impossible to deal with. Their tempers flared up for no reason, and they were impossible to please.
As he watched her leave, Claudio wasn’t bothered. Women like her were a dime a dozen for him. There was no shortage of them who wanted to crawl into his bed.
But if they were this oblivious and couldn’t read the room, he would lose interest after being
intimate once or twice.
His eyes were locked on the direction Skylar had disappeared, and a burning desire filled him. Never before had a woman lingered in his thoughts the way she did.
Even when he spent time with other women during the past few days, her image would flash in his mind. These thoughts had already disrupted his daily life. He couldn’t be at peace unless
he had her.
“Just you wait,” Claudio muttered.
After Natalie returned to her apartment from the hospital, she felt hungry but was too tired to cook. She ordered takeout instead.
While waiting for the food, she casually browsed the news and came across an article about a terror attack in Murida. That reminded her of what Skylar had told her earlier–Joe was currently on a business trip in Murida.
Immediately concerned, Natalie called Skylar. “Skye, I just saw the news about a terror attack in Murida. Didn’t you say Joe’s there for a business trip? You should let him know to be extra
careful.”
Skylar was in the middle of cooking some pasta when Natalie’s words made her freeze. “Where did you see the news?”
“On Facebook. Check it out.”
Skylar quickly searched for “Murida terrorist attack” on Facebook and found several reports. There were a few photos, too–bodies lying in the streets, people running in chaos.
Her heart sank.
She suddenly remembered that she had sent Joe a message a little over an hour ago while waiting in line at the deli. However, after running into Claudio, she had completely forgotten/ about it and hadn’t checked if Joe had replied.
Immediately, she opened her WhatsApp and checked it. As she expected, there was no response from Joe yet.
Without thinking, she started to call him. But just as she was about to dial, a WhatsApp message from Joe popped up.
“Sure, let’s eat together when I get back.” Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.
Skylar breathed a sigh of relief when she saw Joe’s message. “There’s been a terrorist attack in Murida. It’s dangerous there right now, so be careful.”
About a minute later, he responded, “I’m flying back tomorrow. The attack happened far from where I am. Don’t worry, I’m safe.”
“Good, take care.”
Skylar read his message over again, focusing on the words “far” and “safe“. Her anxiety gradually faded.
He would be back tomorrow. There was nothing to worry about. She just needed to wait for him to return safely.
