Chapter 1477
Two days later, Natalie returned.
Skylar went to the airport to pick her up, and then they went straight to a fondue restaurant. After finishing the meal, Skylar drove Natalie back home. Natalie sat in the passenger, a sudden silence falling over her.
Earlier at the fondue restaurant, she had been talking non-stop, acting the same as usual. It seemed like her breakup with Austin hadn't affected her at all.
But now, with the silence in the car, she, too, had quieted down. Skylar felt a pang of sympathy for her but didn't ask anything. Instead, she quietly kept her company.
There was some traffic on the road, and they were moving slowly. As Natalie stared out the window at the night scenery, her eyes slowly became red, and tears started to fall.
She quickly raised a hand to wipe her tears away. Knowing Skylar had probably seen her crying, she no longer tried to hide it.
"I can't believe I'm heartbroken again. I don't care. You're staying with me tonight," she said.novelbin
Skylar pointed to the back of the car. "There's alcohol and your favorite snack in the truck. I'll stay with you tonight."
"Of course, the one who understands me the most in this world is you," Natalie said, immediately smiling through her tears.
Her heart ached throughout the flight home. She felt empty and exhausted by the time she disembarked, eating the fondue in a daze. But as night fell, the flood of emotions she'd held back finally burst forth.
Thankfully, Skylar was there with her.
Joe had just arrived home when he received a message from Skylar.
Her message was short and to the point. She said she would be staying with Natalie tonight and wouldn't be coming home.
He furrowed his brow after reading the message. It seemed like he would be sleeping alone tonight.
Looking at the empty house before him, he suddenly felt lonely. He wondered if he meant that little to her.
Joe reached for a bottle of liquor
from the cab. Slowly sipping, he

and he couldn't remember exactly what had been said.
The image was powerful, disturbing even. He had always believed that he and Skylar would never become so indifferent to each other.
Like now, Skylar hadn't even been home for a day, and he already felt uncomfortable and out of place.
After finishing the last sip of his drink, he got up and headed to the bathroom.
It had been a few months filled with so many events, and his memories were occasionally resurfacing.
Howard had warned him that, at times, it was inevitable for things to get mixed up.
...
It was rare for anyone to be out after dark near the college campus, yet some still hurried back to their dorms.
Pedaling his bicycle with a helmet and glasses, Stephen was barely recognizable to anyone who might have known him unless they looked closely.
He checked the time. He had been waiting for over 20 minutes, but there was still no sign of Simona.
He had been busy soothing Rosa the past few days, and it had taken a lot to secure one million dollars. He had come over right away as soon as he had the time.
Simona couldn't make sense of it.
Even with his packed schedule these past few days, she hadn't bothered to call him once. She probably wouldn't have reached out if he

since they'd spoken.
He'd called her 30 minutes ago, asking to meet up. Yet now, half an hour later, she was still dragging her feet.
His patience was running thin.
Just as he was about to give up, he finally saw Simona walking out.
