Chapter 401 Looked At Her From Afar
Chapter 401 Looked At Her From Afar
"No, thanks. I'll just rest here for a while."
Rachel pressed her hands on the table for support. She then slowly sat on the chair and leaned over the table.
'He just asked and left?' she thought. Based on Miss Li's words, she could only think of Jack.
But she wasn't sure why he came here all of a sudden.
At this time, Jack was in his car. His deep-set black eyes were full of fatigue. He pinched his glabella, leaned back, and closed his eyes. He wanted to have a rest for a while.
Yesterday, he called Mr. Chen and all the shareholders in his office. At that time, Austin threw some share purchase documents in front of them.
At first, they firmly refused to sign the share purchase agreements. But when Austin showed them the evidence of their collusion and the missing funds of the branch, they were left with no choice. After signing the documents, they could only stare at Jack with resentment.
Jack flicked the ash off his cigarette and sneered. "If we send the evidence to the business criminal investigation department, I'm afraid you will all be in prison."
Mr. Chen gritted his teeth and glared at him. "What do you want, Jack? Don't forget that we built this company with your father. In the rules of etiquette, you must all consider us as your uncles. Don't you think you're going too far?"
He was now trying to use the rules of etiquette to restrain Jack from making a move. Jack sneered disdainfully, "If I have forgotten about that, do you think I'd still keep the evidence until now?"
As his slender index finger lightly tapped the table, a cold killing intent flashed through his dark eyes. "For the sake of my father, I am giving you two choices. First, sell all your shares to me and leave MK Group for good. If you do that, I will forget everything that happened and erase all the records. Second..." He deliberately paused and laugh.
When the shareholders heard his cold laughter, they all broke into a cold sweat. They immediately took out their pens and signed the documents anxiously without saying a word.
Jack didn't want to waste more of his time talking to them. When he saw Austin collect the share purchase agreements and nod at him, he pointed at the door and said coldly, "Get out."
He thought that this matter was over. But he didn't expect that Mr. Chen would not give in that easily. Instead, he threatened him that he would look for Rachel to vent his anger on her.
So he rushed to the city where Rachel was that very night. When he heard that Rachel fine, he felt relieved. This content © Nôv/elDr(a)m/a.Org.
After finding out that Jack came to see her, Rachel became absent-minded the whole afternoon.
"Miss Shen, are you okay?" A student who ran from behind stopped in front of her.
She smiled and replied, "I'm fine."
The student handed a book to her and said, "You dropped this book, but you didn't notice it."
Rachel looked down at her hands and found out that the book she was holding was gone.
She took it from the student and said shyly, "I was thinking about something just now, so I didn't notice it. Thank you for giving it back to me."
Looking at her pale face, the student got a little worried. He couldn't help asking, "Miss Shen, where are you going? Let me take you there."
"Thank you, but there's no need." She shook her head, but the student suddenly held her arm and said enthusiastically, "I'm actually heading to your office to ask you something. Let's go together then."
Rachel was thankful to the student. Aside from walking with her, he also kept talking, which made her forget about Jack.
But when she came out of the school after her class, she saw a familiar car with a plate number she knew very well. She was stunned, and her eyes became a little wet.
She looked away and forced herself to recall the topic she had just discussed with the student to divert her attention.
Without her knowing, Jack was staring at her through the windshield.
A gust of wind blew the scarf on her neck. She might have felt cold because she pulled her coat and tightened it on her body.
Jack frowned. In just a few days, she seemed to have lost a lot of weight. Her body didn't only look slimmer now but also weak.
His grip on the steering wheel tightened, and some blue veins stuck out at the back of his hands. He tried hard to resist the urge to get out of the car and hold her tightly in his arms. When he saw her hail a taxi, he immediately drove to follow her.
The taxi driver was already used to this kind of situation. His passenger looked gloomy, and he noticed from the rearview mirror that a black car had been tailing them since he picked her up from
the school. He couldn't help asking with a smile, "Miss, did you and your husband fight?" Rachel was stunned because she didn't expect such a question to come from the driver.
But then she shook her head and answered, "No.
"Don't you know that car? It's been following us. " The driver pointed at the rearview mirror.
Although the reflection of the black car in the rearview mirror was small, she could see it clearly.
With a frown, she asked, "Has that car been following us all the time?"
"Yes. Since I picked you up from the school gate." The driver sounded complacent. Perhaps he thought he had guessed it right.
But a few seconds later, Rachel said in a cold voice, "I don't know that car. Please drive faster and get rid of it."
"Well..." The driver looked embarrassed. "We are in the downtown area. I can only drive at this speed."
She took out several pieces of cash from her wallet and handed them to him. "As long as you help me get rid of that car, this money is yours."
The driver's eyes lit up upon seeing the cash in her hand. He enthusiastically said, "Miss, fasten your seat belt."
Jack noticed that the taxi in front of him was getting faster and faster. To catch up with it, he stepped on the accelerator. However, a truck suddenly came out of the intersection.
He hurriedly stepped on the brakes. Fortunately, he didn't collide with the truck. On the downside, he could only watch the taxi disappear.
He clenched his fists and thumped on the steering wheel heavily.
As soon as Rachel arrived home, she sank back on the sofa, feeling exhausted.
She asked the driver to drive fast without thinking about her current condition. Now, her stomach was churning.
But since she had not eaten the whole day, she had nothing to vomit. It made her feel more uncomfortable.
She lowered her head and touched her belly. She then whispered, "Baby, I am so sorry for giving you such a hard time."
There was bitterness in her heart. Most pregnant women enjoy the care and support of their whole family, especially their husbands.
Perhaps she was one of those very few who needed to suffer from lonesomeness and had to take care of themselves alone.
Last time when she had a prenatal checkup, the doctor told her that her baby was too small and malnourished. Normally, a woman's belly started to protrude in the third month of pregnancy. Although it might not be very obvious, at least people around her could notice.
But Rachel's belly was still flat. No wonder no one in the school noticed that she was pregnant. She spent time with her students and coteachers every day, but none of them paid attention to her belly.
After resting for a while, her stomach finally felt a little better. She stood up and walked to the kitchen to cook some noodles for herself.
She poured water into the pot and turned on the stove.
The water had started to boil when the bright sky outside suddenly became gloomy. It was then followed by a few raindrops.
A few moments later, the rain became heavier. Cold wind entered the kitchen from the open window.
She suddenly remembered that she hung some clothes on the balcony this morning. Afraid that they might have gotten wet already,
she ran to the balcony and hurriedly pulled the clothesline closer to her. While she was taking her clothes one by one, she seemed to have seen a man standing downstairs.
He was standing beside the car without an umbrella or any cover to protect him from the heavy rain.
Although it was dark, she knew it was Jack.
She thought, 'Why is he so stupid? Doesn't he know that he might catch a cold after getting wet in the rain?'
Jack looked up and squinted at the apartment. The rain was pouring on his face, so his vision was a bit blurry.
After standing there for a while, he wiped his face carelessly, went back to the car, and drove away. He didn't see that Rachel came out with two umbrellas in her hands.
Rachel could only see the car disappear from her sight when she came down. Looking at the umbrella in her hand, she couldn't help smiling bitterly.
She said to herself inwardly, 'Weren't you the one who decided to end everything? Why did you rush downstairs with an umbrella when you saw him getting wet in the rain?'
Fortunately, Jack had already left when she reached downstairs.
If not, she didn't know if she could still continue to ignore him.
The next day, Rachel didn't see Jack again. Although she somehow felt relieved, she also couldn't help feeling a little sad. Her heart was longing for him. She prepared and went to work.
Her life seemed to be getting back to normal. Bill didn't come to visit her anymore. He would only send her some messages occasionally. She felt more relaxed in this way.
The morning sickness and vomiting were also gone. In the past two days, her appetite had improved a lot. Mrs. Zhu, who had lunch with her today, saw that she filled her bowl with rice again. Wide eyes wide open in shock, she asked, "Miss Shen, why do you have such a big appetite all of a sudden? You have already gained a lot of weight."
"We have to eat more to nourish our body. After all, we need a lot of energy in teaching." Rachel smiled and continued eating.
Mrs. Zhu put down her chopsticks and looked at her carefully. With a frown, she asked uncertainly, "Miss Shen, are you pregnant?"
Finally, there was one person who noticed it. Rachel didn't intend to hide it, so she nodded and admitted frankly, "Yes, I'm three months pregnant."
"No wonder you didn't have a good appetite before, and you always wanted to vomit." The frown on Mrs. Zhu's face was suddenly replaced by delight. Her smug smile was like indicating that she had discovered Rachel's secret.
