Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 120

Everett was absolutely fuming, his face practically turning a shade of green. "Wow, Selena, way to go!" he spat out.

With that, he snatched up his jacket and car keys and stormed out of the room. The door slammed shut behind him, echoing through the space like a thunderclap.

Selena glanced at her reflection in the mirror, a sly, triumphant smile playing on her lips. She'd done it on purpose-pushed Everett's buttons just right. This way, she could enjoy a bit of peace and quiet for a while. If she didn't give him an outlet for his anger, she'd eventually be caught in his storm, considering they were still legally married.

Lately, he'd been acting a bit off. He was hardly around before, but now, he was always hovering nearby, trying hard to win her over. At times, she almost gave in.

She was afraid of falling for him again. It felt like closing her eyes and jumping off a cliff, heart first.

After freshening up, Selena heard her phone ringing. It was her uncle calling, so she swiped to answer. "Hey there," she greeted.

Her uncle, Brook, chimed in, "Hey, Selena, my birthday's coming up soon. You haven't forgotten, right?"

"Of course not," Selena replied, putting him on speaker while she applied her moisturizer.

"Good, good. This year, your aunt wants to keep it low-key. She's planning to cook at home and show off her culinary skills!" Brook's voice was warm and inviting. "Be sure to come back home on time." Selena paused for a moment before saying, "Alright, I'll be there."

After hanging up, she frowned slightly. Her aunt had never been fond of her. Selena's politeness was more out of respect for her uncle to avoid any unnecessary drama. She and her aunt usually kept their distance.

In the past, Brook would host big

parties with lots of friends, creating

a lively atmosphere. It was easier to keep thing's civil with her aunt when plenty of other people were around because her aunt was keen on

keeping up appearances.

But this time, it sounded like it was just going to be a family affair. She doubted her aunt would be thrilled about a cozy dinner with her. She wondered what kind of drama might unfold this time. Shaking her head, Selena decided to set those thoughts aside for now.

That afternoon, she had plans to go

well-known brand. Without hesitation, Selena dragged Joy to the store and had it wrapped up.

Joy glanced at the price tag and let out a low whistle. "Selena, you really go all out for your uncle."

In the past, with Everett's unlimited credit card, Selena wouldn't have thought twice about spending big, but now, spending a small fortune on a watch showed true dedication.

"Absolutely," Selena said, her tone steady. "When my parents passed suddenly, and my grandma fell ill, Irwin Enterprise went under. Relatives were scared I'd cling to them and even talked about sending me to an orphanage."

"My uncle was the only one who took me in. Back then, his business was just starting, and things were tight, but I never went hungry.

"No matter how much my aunt complained, he stuck to his guns. Without him, I wouldn't be where I am today. It's only right to pay back his kindness."

Joy was at a loss for words. To be honest, she wasn't a fan of Brook. He had ambition but lacked the skill, and his greed was off-putting. Over the years, he'd used his connection to Selena and the Bennett name to line his pockets, which was pretty distasteful.

Typically, someone like him would be seen as selfish and unscrupulous, but he had genuinely taken good care of Selena. That was a kindness you couldn't ignore.

Selena seemed to bring him good fortune. After he took her in, Brook's company landed a huge investment, turning his small operation into a thriving business. Otherwise, it might've folded long ago.

Just then, the sales associate rushed back, whispering something to Selena. Her eyes went wide in disbelief.
