Chapter 14 Please Save Him!
Deanna was taken aback. It was the first time she had seen Old Hughes so excited.
She didn't know how to respond at first. While she was bewildered, Old Hughes warmly took her hand and led her towards the lounge.
"The sun is scorching today. Come, Anna, let's go inside and cool off!"
Deanna was a bit confused. Was Old Hughes being overly enthusiastic today?
What was going on? She felt somewhat overwhelmed as she looked at the tea poured in the lounge.
Old Hughes was highly skilled and respected with a high status in society.
She nodded politely and watched as Old Hughes held her hand tightly, feeling a bit awkward. "I'm here, Old Hughes. What is it?"
Realizing he might have been too excited, Old Hughes chuckled and let go of her hand, jokingly saying, "Oh my, look how excited I am!"
Deanna smiled awkwardly and withdrew her hand.
Glancing around, she noticed Ava, Mr. Mercer, and his assistant all standing together.
Her gaze settled on Lance standing in the middle. He looked spirited, suggesting her treatment had worked well. She knew why he had recovered so quickly.
Looking at Old Hughes, whose expression was inscrutable, she understood why Old Hughes was warm toward her.
Sure enough, Old Hughes got straight to the point.
"Anna, since you've arrived today, I wanted to ask you something. I heard from Ava that it was you who administered the injection to Lance, making him get much better. His condition was so severe-heart and veins damaged, multiple injuries, almost fatal. I want to know, how did you manage to make him recover so quickly? Also, the prescription you gave him, how did you come up with it? I saw there's an ingredient called 'ice lotus' in it, which is a rare herb in the market. How did you obtain it? I've known you for a long time, but I never knew you were skilled in medicine. Where did you learn all this?"
The questions were sharp, and Deanna looked visibly uncomfortable.
Old Hughes meant no harm with his questions. But whether it was ancient medical remedies or her own medical skills, they were taught to her by her master.Original content from NôvelDrama.Org.
Her master had instructed her not to reveal too much about ancient medical arts to outsiders.
After some consideration, she decided to keep it from them. "Actually, don't know much about medicine myself. I just happened to meet a master before who taught me a bit, and I have a shallow understanding of it."
Old Hughes looked at her curiously. "Then may I ask who your master is?"
She pretended not to understand his question, trying to downplay it. "He's just a retired old doctor, nothing special. I was lucky enough to save Mr. Mercer by chance. You don't need to take it to heart."
Xavier looked at her curiously, not quite believing her.
Lance narrowed his eyes, his gaze deep and mysterious, concealing his emotions.
Old Hughes smiled knowingly. With his extensive experience, he knew there was a medical expert behind her, but she was keeping it from him.
He wasn't upset, saying, "Anna,
you're being modest. Did you know?
I've studied medicine my whole life, treated Lance for a long time, and never achieved the result you did with one treatment. I understand if you don't want to answer my questions. But there's one thing I'd like to ask of you, based on our years of friendship."
"What is it?" Deanna glanced at him.
Old Hughes's gaze shifted to Lance. "Can you help him? He's my friend's son. If you can save him, I'll make sure you're generously compensated. Name your price!"
Deanna calmly looked at Lance. When Lance heard the conversation turn to him, he merely crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow, seemingly indifferent to life and death.
However, Deanna felt an inexplicable sense of familiarity with this man.
