Married At First Glance: I Am Not Ugly

Broken

Marissa let down the tears that she has been holding back in her freely without it having any obstacle nor obstruction, she bent low beside her lil brother while shaking him vigorously to get up.

“Samuel pls don’t do this to me, please kindly get up!” She screamed while hot tears flowed down her cheeks, mucus also coming out from her nostril.

She cared less about those watching hee tangling her hair with her fingers. She yelped out in pain while holding her chest with her right hand, she choked on her tears which resulted in sharp pains in her chest.

“Someone, please fucking call the ambulance and don’t just stand there like a dummy fools” She yelled to the passerby, behaving like a mad woman in the street while throwing pebbles stones at them.

She stared down at the unconscious body beside her and snuggled closer to it, placing his head on her chest while crying bitterly.

Few minutes later the ambulance siren could heard from a far distance while people rushed away from the road in order for it’s to pass, it’s got to her side, a stretcher was immediately pulled out by two nurses who dressed in green who immediately pulled her away from her brother and he was placed on the stretcher before it’s was then wheeled inside the ambulance.

She hurriedly followed them inside, sitting very close to his body. She held his tiny little hand while crying silently.

Praying inwardly to keep her little bro safe just this once.

The ambulance tyres screeched loudly while it drove away from the dusty part of LA in speed, navigating towards the right hand side it moved speedily while honking towards the coming vehicles to clear the road as it is an emergency case.

They drove into the hospital roughly alerting other nurses on duty of an emergency case, they all rushed out of the hospital helping those inside the ambulance to wheel away the stretcher to the IUC room.

Marissa followed them all the way to the IUC room holding his hand but got stopped by one of the nurses.

“You can’t go in with us ma’am, kindly wait at the reception.” she said while she removed her hand from his hand before wheeling him inside.

Marissa stared through the glass door as they inserted some pipes into his nose and mouths and some injections are been given to him immediately, she watched as the nurses passing some syringes and needle to a young man probably in his early forties or mid forties or thereabouts who has a stethoscope hanged around his neck while he has his eyes focus on Samuel checking his vitals time to time.

After what seemed like forever, the man whom she assumed to be the doctor gave out an instruction though she didn’t hear what he was saying but judging from the way he was gesticulating with his hands and stern face she knew he was passing out an Instruction to them.

The man whom she later got to know as doctor Finn came out of the IUC room looking at her from head to toe contemplating whether to tell me what’s going on or not and finally spoke out.Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.

“Sorry, who are you to the patient in the ward?” he asked, adjusting his spectacle properly.

“I’m his elder sister.” she replied with a cracked voice while trying to keep her dress properly.

“Have you informed your parents or guardian of the present situation?” he asked, writing some things on the folder in his hand.

“No sir.” she answered while staring down at her worn out slippers, who look so dusty and unkept.

“And why if I may ask?” he asked, staring at her curiously as if he’s trying to find an answer to his questions in her body.

“Ummm we don’t really have one sir. I’m the only one he has and he’s the only one I equally have, we both have lost our parents a long time ago.” Marissa managed to explain to the man without tearing up in his presence because she didn’t want to look like a walking corpse in his presence.

His gaze softened upon hearing what ahe had just said while his face was full of pity.

“So you mean you are an orphan?” he asked to be sure of what she said while she only nodded her head in affirmation to the question he had asked her.

“Take this to the reception room, give it to any staff on duty and present them with any Information they need after then come see me in my office.” he said while stretching the folder he was previously writing something on to her.

Marissa walked down the hallway with a heavy heart heading towards the reception room dragging her feets lazily on the floor, her stomach rumbled reminding her she hadn’t taken anything since morning.

She got to the reception room and met a lot of people there. Some were seated while some were pacing up and down. She walked to a lady she saw sitting on the counter without bothering to greet anyone.

“The doctor asked me to give you this,” she said, stretching the folder in her hand to the nurse.

She looked up from the files she’s attending, eyeing her as if Marissa have done anything wrong. She snatched the folder in her hand with a loud hiss.

Marissa smirked, watching her, waiting patiently for her to ask whatever she needed to know. If it wasn’t for what happened she wouldn’t be here suffering like this huh; she thought inwardly almost tearing up.

“What’s the name of the person you brought in here?” she asked, chewing the gum in her mouth loudly.

“Samuel Preah.” Marissa answered, resting her chin on her hands which rested on the table.

“How old is he and what are the symptoms he has been showing before he was rushed down here?” she asked, filling some information on the folder Marissa gave to her.

“His nine years of age and the only symptoms I could remember him showing was him complaining of constant headache and I do get some pain killers for him that’s all.”

“Okay take this, go straight turn left the first door by your right hand side knock on it and give the person this.” she said, handing me the folder back.

“Okay.” was all I could mutter.
