Love’ss 116
Chapter 116
“Got it.” David nodded, but he still called Andrew after Madelyn left.
Given how concerned Andrew was about Madelyn, David couldn’t risk not reporting her trip to the hospital.
Just five minutes after Madelyn drove the car onto the streets, Andrew called. Seeing the number, Madelyn knew David had informed him.
She connected the call through Bluetooth and sweetly called out, “Darling.”
“Are you going to the hospital?” Andrew asked.
“Yes.”
“Why didn’t you tell me? Are you feeling unwell? Is it a headache?” Andrew’s voice sounded worried.Content property of NôvelDra/ma.Org.
Madelyn sighed in helplessness. “It’s not a headache I have an appointment for a routine checkup, so don’t worry about me. I’ll call you when I’m done.”
She had scheduled the checkup before heading to Lotivale. Despite discovering the blood clots in her brain after returning from Lotivale, Madelyn wanted to know if she could give birth.
Andrew still wasn’t reassured. “I’ll have Benson go with you.”
“Alright, then.” Madelyn relented, knowing this was the most compromise Andrew could make.
Andrew hung up following her agreement.
Benson hadn’t arrived when Madelyn got to the hospital, so she went in first. She hadn’t scheduled her appointment through the hospital’s director, Jacob Fisher, so she had to wait in line, register, and pay.
As the elevator door was about to close on her way to the consultation room, a frantic voice called out Wait, please wait!”
Just before the door closed, Madelyn pressed the open button. A delicate–looking woman, Melinda Baxter, carrying a roughly two–year–old child, Serena Hancock, hurried in. Madelyn stepped back to make
room.
Serena clung to Melinda’s shoulder, her face flushed with a fever. Suddenly, she opened her eyes and looked at Madelyn. Her big, watery eyes were full of grievance as she murmured, “Mommy.”
Madelyn froze, feeling a pang in her heart. It was a mixture of softness and sorrow.
Melinda quickly comforted Serena when she heard her soft voice, “I’m here. Behave, you’ll feel better after a shot.”
Serena didn’t respond. She blinked her big eyes as she stared at Madelyn, who gave her a gentle smile.
When the elevator reached the third floor, Melinda and Serena left, but Serena’s gaze lingered on Madelyn
until the doors closed.
Madelyn continued to the fifth floor. Benson came to her immediately upon his arrival. His presence expedited the process.
During this time, Amelia kept calling Madelyn, who didn’t bother to answer.
When the results came out, the obstetrician–gynecologist looked them over. Her frown was deep when she came to the last page. She looked at Madelyn and said, “Your condition is quite complicated.”
“Is there a problem?” Madelyn’s heart raced.
The doctor handed her the report and said, “Your endocrine system is disrupted due to long–term use of contraceptive pills, and you have endocrine dyscrasia as well as polycystic ovary syndrome. Having a baby won’t be easy.”
Not easy. Though the doctor’s words were gentle on Madelyn, they felt like a death sentence.
Madelyn’s heart sank. “Do I still have a chance to be a mother?”
“Of course, but the treatment process will be long. You need to be mentally prepared.”
Madelyn’s mind buzzed. Though she had prepared herself after learning that Elena had given her and
Andrew a large amount of birth control pills, the reality was still overwhelmingly painful and infuriating.
