Chapter 62: The Security Footage

Chapter 62: The Security Footage

I'd already thought about this so many times that I was absolutely sure of the time and place.

Without a second thought, I blurted out, "Six in the evening, at the ICU ward. Ward number sixteen."

"Okay, got it."

The security guard rubbed his eyes and hurriedly started to search for the right footage.

On the monitor, several images flashed past. Soon, the security guard stopped on one image and

zoomed into it. "This is the one."

As the time on the recording inched closer to seven o'clock, I saw a figure walk into the ICU.

My breathing sped up and I watched the monitor closely, almost burning a hole in it with the sharpness

of my gaze.

However, I couldn't make anything out. All I could see was that two figures had entered the ward one

after another before leaving. After that, Grandma had collapsed.

I couldn't see their faces, clothes, or accessories.

I couldn't even tell their gender and height. I couldn't discern anything at all.

The quality of the hospital's surveillance cameras was really poor.

I turned and asked Leonard, "Can we find footage from a camera with better quality?"

He looked at the security questioningly.

The security guard scratched his head, looking conflicted. "Theoretically, that's against the patient's

privacy. If it weren't for the circumstances of the ICU, the hospital wouldn't even have installed cameras

there. We really can't do anything about the blurriness of the footage..."

Leonard pursed his lips. "I don't want any excuses."

His voice was cold.

Sweat started to bead on the guard's forehead. He turned to me and said, "Miss, please think about it!

We can't be watching the patients when you're wiping them down, right?"

My brain was telling me that he made sense, but my heart refused to accept it.

I bit my lip, feeling bitter.

Was there really no other way?

Leonard patted me on the shoulder and said, "There's no use in trying to determine the cause of your

grandmother's sudden deterioration now. You should think about how to make her better."

I refused to accept what he was saying.

I whipped around and glared at him. "You're just trying to get Phoebe off the hook, aren't you?"

A sliver of rage flashed in his eyes, but he didn't act on it. He reached out and rubbed my face. "You

need to believe that that's not my intention."

There were tears on his hand. That was when I realised that I was crying.

I felt a little embarrassed and swiped at my face roughly. "I have to know who's the one who made

Grandma collapse! Leonard, since you say that Phoebe's not the person behind this, you have to show

me proof."

"I didn't say that Phoebe's definitely not the culprit." Leonard seemed to be losing his patience. "I said

that from what I know of her, I don't think she's the one who did this. Do you understand me?"

I knew what he meant, but I refused to understand.

I stomped my foot hard, wanting to throw a tantrum. "You're a..."

He slapped a hand over my mouth and shot a glance to the side.

I turned and saw the security guard still standing next to us.

His gaze darted around, not daring to even look at us.

I felt a little embarrassed and pried Leonard's hand away. "Let me go!"

He snorted but didn't say anything.

I followed his line of sight. Through the window on the door, I looked out at the dark corridor. I saw the Belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.

green light of the emergency exit glowing eerily.

Wait, the corridor?

An idea popped up in my mind and I asked the security guard, "Do you guys have footage of the

corridors?"

"Yes, yes, of course. The corridor footage is much clearer." The security guard nodded hastily. "What's

the time that you want?"

"About seven o'clock."

My voice quavered a little and I wrung my hands.

A muffled groan came from beside me. I didn't pay attention to it as I focused on the footage.

The security guard was searching around for the footage hurriedly, but to me, it seemed like everything

was happening in slow motion.

"It should be here..." the guard mumbled. His forehead shining with sweat, he turned to me and said,

"Mr. Nell, miss, don't worry. I'll definitely help you track the footage down."

Leonard said indifferently, "You're not helping us. You're helping yourself."

...

The guard was taken aback.

"If you can't find it, I'll fire you," Leonard said coldly. "I have enough authority to do that."

...

The security guard's fingers flew over the keyboard.

I clenched my fists tightly, feeling my fingernails dip into my palm.

Perhaps I was too anxious, but I didn't even feel any pain.

I couldn't help pinching myself anxiously.

...

Leonard suddenly hissed.

I looked at him in confusion as he let out a grimace. "Try pinching me again, Queena."

I wasn't pinching myself?

I let go of his hand instantly.

Leonard held his hand up and looked at it under the light.

There were several bloody marks on it. One of them was especially obvious.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to."

I had no choice but to apologise.

He glared at me, but didn't say anything.

"I've found it!"

The security guard suddenly let out a cry and pointed at one of the images. "This is the footage."

I held my breath and looked at the screen.

Two women were walking along the corridor, one in front of the other. They had caps on, blocking their

faces. They even had scarves wrapped around themselves.

"They must have done it on purpose," I mumbled.

It was obvious that they didn't want to be found out.

I had no idea who they were. How was I going to track them down in such a huge city?

Leonard knocked on the table. "Zoom in."

The security guard quickly did as he was told. However, he didn't pause the footage.

In the recording, one of the women looked up and glanced towards the surveillance camera.

I was dumbfounded by this. "How can it be her? I thought it was..."

Leonard asked, "Who is it?"

"It's... Gail, my stepmother," I forced out.

Why was Gail trying to harm Grandma? Wasn't she afraid that Bell would fly into a rage and kick her

and Phoebe out?

Leonard's gaze turned cold. "There you go again, Queena. Are you going to tell me that the other

woman's Phoebe?"

I looked at him in disbelief. "Do you still think I'm trying to frame Phoebe?"

He frowned. "Aren't you?"

He was obviously still trying to protect her!

A wave of hatred washed over me as I glared at him. I wanted to swear at him for trying to aid and

abet.
