A Gamble with Fate
If her grandfather passed away, Sonia would be devastated,

That left Shane with no options, like a fish out of water. He had no choice but
to go along with it.
Soon, they arrived outside a large room on the third floor of the mansion.
Inside, a man who appeared to be an assistant was enthusiastically
boasting, “Members of the Toma family, you have my deepest condolences!
Let me tell you, Dr. Ghezzo isn’t just the top doctor in Eldoria; he’s one of the
best in the entire country. If he says someone can’t be saved, not even a god
could change that!” This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org: ©.
Hearing that load of hot air, Shane couldn’t help but snort “out of respect.” He
thought it was harmless, but in the somber atmosphere, where everyone
else was silent with grief, his snicker rang out, sharp and intrusive.
“Who? Who just scoffed?” The assistant immediately grew agitated, feeling
like someone had challenged his words, daring to make a fool of him.

eyes turned toward the source of the sound. The focus quickly landed on
Shane–the short, chubby, and eccentric young man had suddenly become
the center of attention.
“Was it you, fat boy?” Cezar glared coldly at Shane. “My father is on the brink
of death, and everyone here is grieving. Who do you think you are, laughing
like that? Who even brought you here?”
Everyone was curious–no one seemed to know this odd character.
“Uncle Cezar, I brought him,” Sonia spoke up, biting her lip. “He’s a highly
skilled master from outside the city. He said he could save Grandpa, so I
brought him home.“
The room erupted in murmurs of surprise. Shane’s eyes widened. What the
hell?! When did I ever say that?!
“Miss, don’t exaggerate! I only said I could try-”
“Really?” Before Shane could explain further, Denis jumped in, eagerly shaking

Shane’s hand. “You’re clearly someone special–just look at you! You must
have extraordinary abilities! Please, I beg you, save my father!”
“Uh… well… uh…” Shane was stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Sonia and Denis were both praising him–one calling him a reclusive master,
the other claiming he had extraordinary talents. Shane had never received
this kind of praise in his 20 years of life! He had tried so hard to hide his
mediocrity, yet his future wife and father–in–law had somehow figured him
out. It had to be fate!
But what good was fate if he didn’t have the skills to back it up? What was he
supposed to do now?
“You can’t be serious, Sonia! How can you be so sure this fat guy is really that
skilled? He looks more like a farmer than a miracle worker!” Carmen, with
arms crossed, sneered from the side.
Before Shane could fire back, Sonia defended him passionately. “I’m not mistaken! When he saw me on the street, he figured out Grandpa’s illness

without me saying a word. And Rhea told me his senior is a renowned doctor
in Nuthana. He’s definitely got the skills!”
Oh, man… Shane cringed internally. Sure, Manny’s a genius, but what does
that have to do with me? But with Sonia standing up for him like that, he
couldn’t undermine her faith in him.
Carmen scoffed again, rolling her eyes. “Fine, let’s see this play out then. If Dr.
Ghezzo declared there’s no hope, I doubt this guy can do anything. But hey,
I’m all ears.”
The rest of the family didn’t seem convinced either, and Gabi’s assistant, in
particular, looked furious, as if Shane had come to undermine their authority.
“Young man, are we not offering you enough? Is that why you hesitate to
help?” Denis Toma, growing desperate, threw out a wild offer. “If you save my
father, I’ll give you my daughter’s hand in marriage. Or, if you prefer, name
your price!”
Wait, what? Shane’s hand dropped from his face, his eyes widening in shock

as he looked at his future father–in–law, “Are you serious?”
Unbelievable!
The Toma family elders exchanged disbelieving glances, all thinking the
same thing: This shameless chubby guy actually wants to marry Sonia? Even
Carmen rolled her eyes in disdain. Does this pig really think he can win the
prize?
Sonia’s face turned beet red, mortified that her father would make such an
offer. But for the sake of her beloved grandfather, she stayed silent.
“That’s right. Or, if you prefer, we can discuss money-” Denis had still hoped
to pay Shane off with cash.
To his surprise, Shane gripped Denis‘ hand tightly. “Money isn’t important to
someone like me. I’m not interested in material wealth. But seeing how
sincere you are, Dad, I’ll make an exception and help you out this time!”
