Chapter 45
Chapter 45
Scarlet had fallen in love with someone else? But there was an insurmountable gap between them so
she couldn't be with that man now? And when she graduated and made something of herself, she
would try her best to be with that man?
Lenny tried to digest what he had overheard. It turned out Scarlet had a crush on her professor. No
wonder she took an internship in Marlon's studio. Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.
Scarlet said that she didn't like Lenny because he was much older than she was. She also said that
she still wouldn't be interested in him even if he stripped naked in front of her. As it turned out, she had
her eye on someone else.
Lenny narrowed his eyes, anger burning in his chest.
Confused, the president asked, "Are you all right, Mr. Foster?"
Lenny snapped back to his senses and replied, "I'm fine. Let's go."
"I'm going to build a teaching building in the open space ahead, Mr. Foster. We plan to name it after
your name."
The president kept talking in an impassioned manner, but Lenny didn't hear a word.
His mind was full of what Scarlet had said earlier. He felt so bothered and dejected that he couldn't
think straight.
As fate would have it, someone was standing behind Scarlet the whole time she talked with the senior
student, and Scarlet was oblivious to it.
Hearing what she said just now, Marlon smiled faintly. He remembered the girl in front of him. She was
his student who got the big order from Lenny Foster. Marlon didn't expect it, but he was a bit flattered to
find out that Scarlet had a crush on him.
He had a good impression of her.
It never occurred to Scarlet that her made-up story would cause such a big misunderstanding.
A week later, the studio held its celebration party.
Marlon had already gotten the deposit from the Foster Group, which was ten million dollars for two sets
of high-end suits.
In a private function room of a five-star hotel, everyone was smiling and having a great time.
All her colleagues raised their glasses and made a toast to Scarlet who had made the biggest
contribution to the business deal with the Foster Group.
If it was in the past, Scarlet could have a few drinks. But now she was pregnant, so she couldn't drink
at all.
She only took several sips of juice instead of wine.
Evie was about to raise her glass and have a drink with Marlon, but she didn't expect that he would
stand up and go straight to Scarlet.
Evie froze and then went back to her seat awkwardly, clenching her fists under the table.
Marlon didn't have a drink because he had to drive home.
Scarlet was flattered when he came over to clink glasses with her.
She had attended Marlon's classes and benefited a lot from them. She admired him with all her heart.
He was a great professor and a famous designer in the circle. In fact, he designed clothes for the royal
family abroad.
At the age of twenty-eight, he was already able to achieve so much in his career and had become the
idol of countless people.
"I need an assistant. You can come work for me. Your job will be to communicate with the Foster Group
about the details of this order until everything is delivered."
"What? Me?" Scarlet repeatedly shook her head. She didn't want to see Lenny again.
"This is a big client. Are you willing to let someone else handle it?" Marlon asked.
Upon hearing what her professor said, Scarlet hesitated.
Lenny was generous. If she did a great job as the studio's liaison to the Foster Group and he made
additional orders in the future, she would get a hefty commission.
She didn't want to take the job, but she was really short of money now. She needed funds to be able to
take care of herself and her baby.
Her belly was still flat, and she wore thick clothes when it was cold. It was hard to tell that she was
pregnant when she was in loose clothes.
She could hide her pregnancy for a few more months.
Finally, she decided to take the job offer because of the money she could make.
After dinner, everyone said goodbye to Marlon and left.
Most of them carpooled home.
In the end, there was only one empty seat left, but both Scarlet and Evie hadn't found a ride.
It would cost at least fifty dollars to take a cab home from here.
Evie was from a poor family, so she had to try every means to save money. She took the last seat
before Scarlet could.
Standing outside, Scarlet sneezed in the autumn wind. It seemed that she had to take a cab home
alone.
Feeling complacent, Evie grinned, but unexpectedly, she saw Marlon approach Scarlet and pat her on
the shoulder.
"Let me drive you home, Scarlet. It's not safe for you to take a cab home alone at this time," he said.
"Thank you."
Scarlet thanked Marlon and got in his car.
Seeing this, Evie gritted her teeth in anger. If she had just stayed there and waited for a few more
moments, she could've been the one Marlon offered to drive home.
At this time, Evie had made up her mind to find a way to kick Scarlet out. The world had officially
become too small for her with Scarlet in it.
