Chapter 819 If He Wants Me Dead, Don’t Come Home
Chapter 819 If He Wants Me Dead, Don’t Come Home
Chloe was taken aback. Her thoughts were still foggy from just waking up. She recalled only drinking a glass of water that a helper had brought over last night, so how had she slept so soundly? If someone had entered her room, she should not have been completely oblivious to it.
She pondered over the matter, and an answer slowly formed in her mind. Someone must have spiked her water. And other than Noah, she could not think of anyone else who would have done so.
Chloe’s anger surged, and she pounded on the door with all her might. "Open the door!" The palms of her hands turned red from the force.
After a few minutes, a helper came by. She cautiously approached the door and said, "I'm sorry, Ms. Chloe, but I don't have the key. I can't open the door."
"Get me Noah then!" Chloe shouted.
"Mr. Noah isn't here. He went to work."
"What about Grandpa?"
"Mr. Desmond left for an overseas trip this morning as arranged by Mr. Noah. He's not here either..."
Chloe's pupils contracted. She took a deep breath and calmed herself. Clenching her fists tightly, she said, "One hour. Tell Noah that if he doesn't come to see me within the hour, I'll set this place on fire. If he wants me dead, then tell him not to bother with coming home."
She could not fathom why Noah would want to lock her up and send Desmong away. Was he copying Joseph in holding her captive? Whatever the case, she was not the person she was five years ago, and she would allow anyone to trap her ever again.
The helper panicked. "Please don't say such scary things, Ms. Chloe. Mr. Noah simply wants you to rest. If you need anything, just let me know. Please don’t harm yourself."
The helper had worked for the Sullivans since she was young, so it was only natural for her to follow Noah's orders. But silence fell over the entire third floor as Chloe did not respond, and the helper could sense Chloe’s determination through her silence. Terrified, the helper scampered downstairs to call Noah.
Chloe quietly stood on the balcony of her room, counting each second as she waited anxiously. Gazing downward, the Sullivan manor featured a timeless garden design featuring white walls, dark tiles, sloping eaves, and intricate Asvinian carvings. It looked just like the residence of an ancient noble.
The spacious courtyards featured artificial mountains, long corridors, and elegantly designed pavilions. Along with ponds adorned with lotus flowers, this created a poetic, but also somewhat dull, atmosphere.
When Chloe first moved in, they had renovated a specific area and crafted a garden in the Estre- style, adorning it with an expanse of blooming flowers so that she could adapt to the manor quickly. During warmer days, she could see an unending expanse of flowers from her window, their enchanting scent an irresistible allure for any girl.
Yet, her current gaze upon the sea of flowers was devoid of the joy that once made this place feel like home. Desmond had so much faith in Noah that he went on a trip abroad without even notifying her. If he knew of Noah’s true nature, he would likely be even more disappointed than she was. The child he had nurtured with his own hands had strayed from the right path.
After some time had passed, Chloe spotted Noah's car pulling in. She sat down in the chair, her face expressionless as she waited for him to enter the room. After a few minutes, Noah pushed the door open and walked.
He looked at her and asked, "Why haven’t you had breakfast? Aren't you hungry?" Exclusive content © by Nô(v)el/Dr/ama.Org.
Chloe jumped to her feet. Her eyes were devoid of warmth as she demanded, "Give me back my phone."
"I can sense that you’ve been really tired lately, so I took your phone away," he said calmly, "Our wedding is just a week away, so stay home and rest. Don't worry about anything else. I'm right here."
"I don't want to stay at home, and you have no right to take my phone away."
"I already did, so you have no choice."
Furious at his indifference, Chloe stopped responding. She decided she would leave until Desmond returned.
