Chapter 90~ My woman
"Ma'am, Mr Anderson really loves you... you're already dating but he's still sending you flowers. And these look different than the usual... they look expensive," Hannah Collins, Lora's assistant, remarked.
Lora glanced at the flowers in the vase near her desk, her heart doing a little flip. She too had thought it was Jason who sent her the flowers. However, since the sender was daring enough to claim to be her husband, it could only be Ryan. "These are not from Jason. They are from Ryan," Lora replied and Hannah's eyes rounded.Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
"Mr Kingsley sent you flowers? Are you two-?"
"No, we are not. Don't you have work to do, Hannah?" Lora asked, furrowing her eyebrows.
"I do... but I just thought that maybe you and Mr Kingsley reconciled and that's why he's sending you flowers," Hannah remarked.
"No, we did not. Although we are friends now, I can't be with him again. He was with Ivy after all," Lora remarked, sadness creeping into her.
Although she could see that Ryan had changed, she couldn't forget that he had been with Ivy for the last six years. That was a fact that wouldn't go away.
"I think you can give Mr Kingsley a chance since he got rid of that scheming woman-"
"Hannah, can we not talk about Ryan? I have a lot of things to do," Lora interrupted, her eyebrows creasing.
She wanted to avoid that topic as much as possible because it only brought confusion.
Meanwhile, on the other part of the city, Ryan glanced at his assistant and asked, "Did you deliver the flowers to Lora?"
"Yes, I did, Sir," Lawrence responded.
Ryan checked his phone for the umpteenth time and frowned. He looked at Lawrence and asked again, "Did you get the address right?"
"Yes, Sir. I sent the flowers to Davis & Co. and they've been delivered to Miss Davis," Lawrence replied.
'Why isn't she saying anything if she's received the flowers?' Ryan asked himself, his heart sinking to the pits of his stomach.
As if he could read his boss' mind, Lawrence suggested, "Why don't you call her to find out what she thinks about you sending her flowers?" Ryan's eyes lit up. He replied, "You're right. I'll call her."
Unfortunately, when Ryan tried to call Lora, her phone went unanswered, making Ryan's stomach twist and turn.
'Is she avoiding me?' He asked in his mind. Chasing after his wife was certainly not easy.
A knock at the door brought him back to the present.
"Come in," he said and the doors opened, revealing Diane, his young sister.
"Bro, I know you're a workaholic but you're on bed rest. You weren't supposed to come for work," Diane stated, a frown crossing her face.
"I need to put a few things in order before I take my leave," Ryan said. "I might take some time to return, so I have to settle things here first."
"What do you mean? Are you going somewhere?" Diane asked, feeling confused.
Ryan arched an eyebrow and asked, "Didn't you just tell me to go on bed rest?"
"I know but you sound like you're going away for a long time," Diane remarked.
"Yeah... it's a well-deserved rest and once I go on leave, I want you to oversee the company. Don't let vultures try to take over," Ryan said and Diane glanced at him suspiciously.
"You usually oversee the company even when you're on leave... Ryan, what's going on? Are you hiding something?"
Ryan rolled his eyes and replied, "Women... you're so complicated. Just a few seconds earlier, you asked me to stay home to rest and now that I plan to do so, you're questioning why I want to rest."
Diane narrowed her eyes, glancing at her brother. When she saw the bags under his eyes, her stomach knotted with worry. 'He must be so exhausted that he wants to go on a leave for a long time,' she mused. Smiling, she responded, "It's fine. You rest. I'll protect the company."
"Good," Ryan replied.
"Well, I just came to see how you're doing. I'm going to Davis & Co. to see Lora. We haven't really talked since you're all over her most of the time," Diane remarked and a gleam of joy flashed through Ryan's eyes.
"I'll take you," he offered.
"No, I came with my driver-"
"It's better if your big brother drives you there, little sis. I may be injured, but I'm the best person who can protect you," Ryan insisted.
Diane chuckled, thinking, 'Since when is Ryan so cute? It's obvious he wants to see Lora.'
"Ok... you can take me. I might have lunch with Lora too," she stated.
"Then it won't be a bad idea to join you guys for lunch because I'm starving," Ryan said before grabbing his car keys and getting to his feet.
...
A little while later, Lora had just walked out of her office when Lewis Hendrix approached her.
"Can I help you?" Lora asked, arching an eyebrow.
"Aren't you shameless? You took
days off just a few weeks after you took over as CEO and I had to run things around here again. Now you're back like it's nothing when you do no work around here tewis hissed, anger flitting through his eyes.
"Excuse me?"Lora snapped, tired of the man's attitude. "If you have a problem with me, you can go ahead and whine to the shareholders
at. I
because that's what you're good. no
have no time to waste on you."
"You don't deserve that position and I swear, I'll do whatever it takes to drag you down- Argh!"
Lewis groaned when he was suddenly punched in the face.
Lora gasped and turned to see Ryan who was furiously glaring at Lewis as he warned, "The next time you disrespect my woman like that, it won't end with just one punch."
