Her Precious Baby

Chapter 80

Chapter 80

Jacob’s face contorted in anger as his breathing turned heavy. Subsequently, he cursed under his breath and reluctantly took off his apron.

Floretta was lying on her stomach on the carpet in the living room. Cradling her chin with her palms, she was secretly giggling while watching the drama unfold.

At that moment, she understood the situation.

Daddy and Angel are both shy people. If I want Angel to become my mommy, Jacob and I must do something to push them.

With that thought in mind, she let out a long sigh.

Jeez, it’s all Daddy’s fault for not knowing how to pursue a woman he likes. I’m only five years old, and it’s not easy for me to find myself a mommy.

In the kitchen, Angeline was teaching Evander how to make the first dish—prawn salad. She held a spatula in one hand and a plate of prawns in another. Once the oil was hot, she poured all the prawns into the pan.

She was in a hurry as it was getting late, so she didn’t even wait until the water in the pan had dried up.

A sizzling sound could be heard as soon as the prawns were poured into the pan, and a few droplets of scalding oil landed on her arm. The burning pain caused her to shudder.

Crack! At that moment, a cluster of flames sprang up from the pan, causing Angeline to jump a step back in shock.

Evander, who was standing behind her, immediately wrapped his arms around her. Nervousness was written all over that handsome face of his.

“Watch out!”

Before Angeline could say anything, he immediately dragged her out of the kitchen.

“Hey, what are you doing?” Angeline asked anxiously as she stomped her feet in irritation.

“It’s dangerous in the kitchen.”

Evander’s face was grim as he looked her up and down. After making sure that she was not injured, he ordered her, “I’m going to turn off the gas. Be good and wait here for me.”

Seeing that he was about to enter the kitchen, Angeline quickly grabbed his arm and said, “It’s not on fire. Have you never seen your housekeeper cook before? That’s a normal occurrence!”

After saying that, a charred scent wafted into Angeline’s nostrils. She held her forehead as despair inundated her. “D*mn it. My prawns!”

She then ran into the kitchen and filled a bowl with some water before pouring it into the pan.

Without a doubt, the whole pan of prawns was overcooked and had all turned yellowish.

After realizing that it was all just a misunderstanding, Evander stood rooted to the spot with awkwardness lining his face. For a moment, he didn’t know what to say.

In the living room, Jacob laughed his heart out and rolled all over the carpet while cuddling Floretta, tears almost streaming down his face. “See? I was right! Angie, you should’ve let me help you instead!”

Floretta narrowed her eyes adorably and did not hesitate to mock her father. “I’ll let you in on a secret. Daddy once cooked something for me on a whim. The eggs were all black, and it was so hard that my teeth hurt.”

Upon hearing that, Jacob laughed even harder. He caressed Floretta’s cheek and said sympathetically, “You poor kid! Did you turn into a tiny yellow chick after eating a mouthful of eggshells?”

Evander’s expression turned increasingly grim as the temperature dropped drastically.

It seemed as though a thunderstorm was brewing.

Angeline was the only one who regarded him with sympathy. As a successful and influential businessman, he probably didn’t expect to be laughed at because of his cooking skills. Besides, he reacted like that because he was worried about my safety.

“All right, that’s enough. Stop laughing,” Angeline said as she tried to ease the tension in the air. “When I first started cooking, I even threw the pan away because I was scared of the oil.” Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.

She approached Evander and helped him take off his apron as she patiently said, “I’ll teach you to cook next time. It’s late today. Go outside for a while, and the food will be ready soon.”

Upon hearing Angeline’s tone, Jacob immediately got jealous and complained like a little child, “Angie, that’s not fair. You’ve never used such a gentle tone when you talk to me!”

Angeline shook her head with exasperation. What is wrong with these two today? Why are they being so competitive?

Not wanting to get involved in their childish feud, she ignored them and shut the kitchen door as she cleaned up the mess herself.

Evander’s mood instantly improved when he saw how Angeline didn’t give Jacob any special treatment. The anger he felt when they were laughing at him instantly dissipated.

At that moment, he himself was surprised to notice the fluctuations in his emotions that were related to Angeline.

Why am I so bothered by Angeline and Jacob’s relationship? Was Floretta’s tantrums the only reason I came to visit Angeline today?

An hour later, steaming hot dishes were served. There were scrambled eggs, buffalo wings, pork stew, and a pot of vegetable soup. The tasty aroma was irresistible.

Jacob eagerly grabbed his fork and tasted every single dish before complimenting, “Wow, these are delicious! Angie, you’re such a catch! You’re pretty and your cooking also tastes amazing!”

Angeline smiled from ear to ear upon hearing his praise. “Have some more if you like.”

“Don’t worry. I’d even lick the plate clean,” Jacob said as he dug in. He kept throwing compliments as he ate.

Every woman loved to be praised, and Angeline was no exception. She felt bad for Jacob upon seeing the way he wolfed the food down as if he had been starving, so he scooped him a bowl of soup.

“Slow down. There’s more in the kitchen.”

At that moment, Floretta looked up from her bowl and blinked before she innocently asked, “Jac, since you’re so supportive, would you eat the burnt prawns, too?”

“Um…”

Jacob hesitated when he thought of the charred scent that wafted into the living room a moment ago.

Angeline shook her head with a wry smile and served Floretta some soup, too. “He’s just joking.”

“Who said so? Angie, I’m a die-hard fan of yours. I’m willing to eat anything you make, including the burnt prawns,” said Jacob stubbornly, biting the bullet.

After all, Angeline is a kind person. She won’t make me eat it for real!

However, Jacob seemed to have forgotten about Evander’s existence. The latter placed his fork down and headed to the kitchen before returning with a plate of blackish prawns.

Clang! He set the dish in front of Jacob.

Jacob almost spat the food out of his mouth when he saw the dish. “What’s the meaning of this, Evander?” he asked angrily.

“This is nothing. You don’t need to thank me for bringing the dish to you.”

Jacob was rendered speechless by Evander’s nonchalant reply.

Floretta clapped her hands in excitement as she stared at Angeline with envy. Her voice was laced with admiration as she said, “Angel, you’re so lucky! Jac is willing to eat burnt prawns for you. I can’t wait to see the look on his face!”

Words eluded Jacob. Is this a prank?

Jacob didn’t know how to react, but as a young man in his twenties, he was stubborn and unyielding. Having lost to Evander once, he couldn’t admit defeat just like that.

Thus, he snorted and said, “Fine. I’ll eat it!”

Subsequently, he picked up the plate of prawns and stuffed them into his mouth. After chewing on them for a few seconds, his face scrunched up and he immediately rushed into the bathroom to throw up.

“Oh my goodness!”

Angeline quickly poured a glass of water and went to the bathroom to hand it to Jacob so he could rinse his mouth. “Are you okay?” she asked in concern.

“D*mn it!”

He felt so nauseous that he emptied all the contents in his stomach. As he vomited, he smacked the toilet bowl in fury.

What am I doing? I’m going to extreme lengths for the sake of love, yet Evander is sitting there and enjoying the show as if I’m a joke. How sly and cunning!

As his train of thought ended there, he became increasingly concerned. Angie is going to fall for Evander’s schemes one day if she continues hanging out with him!
