Getting My Ex-wife Back

Chapter 173 Pay for Your Own Mistakes

“Absurd.” Vivian was disappointed.

“Aria is pregnant, isn’t she?” she asked, trembling.

Hansen’s body froze, the sparkle in his eyes vanished.

“Hansen, is she carrying your child?” Vivian raised her voice again.RêAd lat𝙚St chapters at Novel(D)ra/ma.Org Only

Dumbfounded, Hansen couldn’t say a word.

“Hansen, is this who you are?” Vivian said sternly, “You got her pregnant, and then drove her away. What are you? Is this what the men of the Richards family do? How can you do such an irresponsible thing? If others learn about it, what would they think of us? How can you be trusted in the future? How would you lead the Richards Group and grow the company?”

Vivian’s repeated questioning threw Hansen into a daze, as if he was struck by lightning. His face turned pale as he tried to stand upright, unable to speak a word.

“Hansen, you have to be a responsible man. Being a good person is far more important than those petty achievements. Never go against your conscience for you are not such a person. Live the life of the man we raised you up to be, so you can live in peace. If you can’t be an upright and kind-hearted person, then how could you lead others and demand from them? We are a distinguished family; integrity and reputation are very important. You are a descendant of the Richards Family, and you must pay more attention to your words and deeds. You are already an adult, so you must be responsible for your own mistakes. No one has the obligation to deal with your mistakes. If you do it, you take it.” Vivian’s voice was cold and hard, without any partiality.

“No, Grandma, the person I love is Jenna. I have never loved Aria. Never. I can see now that the person I want to marry is Jenna.” Hansen realized what Vivian meant and hurriedly emphasized it.

Didn’t Vivian always value Jenna? How could she change at the moment?

“Nonsense.” Vivian said sharply, “If you didn’t love Aria, why did you get her pregnant? Don’t you know anything about responsibility? A man should know what he should and should not do. Don’t you at least have this common sense?”

Hansen was completely dumbstruck.

Originally, he came to seek support from Vivian, but it seemed that he was not going to gain what he was after. Even his Grandma had completely changed her opinions about this matter.

“But, Grandma, Aria’s pregnancy was not my fault. I don’t want it to end like this. It was plotted by that d*mned Norton. Grandma, I never loved Aria. Why would I touch her?” Hansen was desperate.

“Well, I’ll ask you again now. Is the child Aria carrying now yours? You just need to tell me this now,” Vivian asked with a slight trembling in her voice.

“I…” Hansen was speechless for a while; he recalled the scene when he woke up at Hilton Hotel that night.

He could not answer her.

Vivian understood everything at once.

Norton had been a troublesome child. In fact, for so many years, she had refused to let Norton’s mother, Maria, enter the Richards family. It was not really because of Maria’s family background, but because of her very own behavior. Vivian had sent men to investigate, and neither Maria nor her family had a good reputation. Hence, Trevor was firmly opposed to this.

After Norton was born, considering that the outside world might not be a good environment for him to grow up in, he was often taken care of in Richards Manor. Gradually, Vivian discovered that Norton had a strange personality and was always confined in his own world; he never expressed his emotions easily. There were even times when he was filled with the wrath of taking his revenge. Just thinking of his growing environment made Vivian worry.

Trevor seemed to have noticed it too, but he could only train Norton to go into the field of politics for that suited Norton the most. After all, he was quite a meticulous boy.

They did not have many choices. Besides, Claude had no other children.

Therefore, Vivian took the lead and brought in Maria, and both her son and daughter, so the children could grow up in a better environment and contribute to society.

However, she didn’t expect that Norton would end up doing that.

Now, she really had nothing to say except to be sad.

As for Hansen, she had always loved him, hence naturally, her expectation for Hansen was higher.

The reason why Vivian opposed Aria in the past was solely based on her own judgement. She was not optimistic about Aria, but now, the situation was different. Aria was pregnant with Hansen’s child; no matter how reluctant Hansen was, this child belonged to the Richards family. It was their flesh and blood.

As a man, he must be responsible. Since Aria was pregnant, Hansen must take up the responsibility.

This was her request for Hansen.

Obviously, Aria had been with Hansen for more than three years. Now that Aria had his child, who would believe that Hansen said he didn’t love her? If Hansen really didn’t love her, why didn’t he say so earlier? Why did Hansen have to say that he didn’t love her when she was already pregnant?

Aria was not the sole reason that all these things happened. Hansen was equally responsible.

Furthermore, who was the person behind Aria? It was Earl.

How could he let go of Hansen and the Richards Group?

Even if the Richards Group did not collapse, Hansen would still suffer in Earl’s hands.

Vivian knew them all very well.

She had to guard the Richards Group and Richards Manor for the rest of her life so that her grandchildren could live a peaceful life. She had no choice.

“Hansen, everything has been caused by your own carelessness. Now no matter who you like or love, it is none of our concern. You are a man from the Richards family. You must never be called ungrateful. You have to bear the responsibilities,” Vivian stated blankly.

Hansen suddenly felt cold all over, and the black of his eyes continued to expand.

“No, Grandma, why did you change? You have always liked Jenna, and Jenna is the official girl I should marry with. She was in our Richards family tree, right? Grandma, I should marry Jenna, right?” Hansen squatted down in front of Vivan’s legs like a child, looking at her eagerly.

Vivian lowered her head while looking at Hansen’s helpless, dejected face and sighed deeply.

“Hansen, you are so stupid. So what if I like Jenna? Four years ago, I gave you Jenna, but what did you do to her? Didn’t you divorce her? But now, you can marry Aria. You have this opportunity, but you changed your mind and now you want to marry Jenna. Tell me why you’re acting as such. What should I say about your behavior? Now, it’s a fact that I can’t help you with. If I insist on you marrying Aria, I will be laughed upon by everyone else.” Vivian shed a few tears as she continued, quivering. “Hansen, family trees, genealogy, all these are but tools used by me to wake you up when you lose your way, to make you sober. What era is it now? They are no longer applicable in the face of the law! Earl is a public servant and he naturally knows that we can’t go against the law. Those things are useless now. You have no choice in the face of justice and morality.”

Hansen was completely devastated and his whole body went weak. He had a blank expression on his face.

Jenna’s crying pale face occupied his mind. At that moment, Hansen realized that it was very likely that he would lose her.

The intense grief and anxiety in his heart enveloped him, as well as the pain that went deep into his bone. It felt as if a knife had peeled off his skin and flesh while he was still alive; such pain could make his heart cramp.

He didn’t know what to do.

“Child, I have made myself clear. Own up to your own faults. Learn your lesson, and believe that the evil in this world will never win over the righteous. There will always be a day when we will see hope again,” Vivian said earnestly and comforted him.

Hansen’s face was emotionless as he stood up.

He didn’t know how he left Ink Garden. He walked aimlessly, desperate, like a lonely ghost without a home.

Why was this happening?

At that time, he was unwilling to marry Jenna, but his grandmother resolutely opposed him. He was in so much pain that he got himself drunk every day and night. At that time, there was at least one reason, an excuse, for him to stay alive. A glimmer of hope for the girl in his dream made him persevere. Hence, he channeled all his energy into his work and shunted everything else away.

Now, he wanted to marry Jenna but received opposition from everyone, including his very own grandmother. He would not hesitate if he had to live in infamy for her, or even to throw away all his fame and reputation, just to marry her.

However, his courage itself was a laughing stock. He was too naive.

He was a descendant of the Richards family. Besides Vivian, his mother did not allow him to do this too. On top of that, society would not condone his actions too for it went against the values they were brought up with. But, what had he done so wrong to deserve this?

“It seems that Hansen really likes Jenna. He did not fake his pain in his eyes. Madam Vivian, could you really bear to watch him marry Aria? To be honest, Aria is a bad person. Although her status is as prominent as the mayor’s daughter, I don’t like her and she’s definitely not worthy of Young Master Hansen. He’s one talented boy although he may seem a little confused in his own feelings. If he marries Aria in the future, they will not live a happy life,” said Meroy while looking at Hansen’s sorrowful figure.

Meroy thought that Vivian would not be so senile that she couldn’t even figure this out. After all, Hansen’s wife would be leading the Richards family, and in the future, the heir of the Richards Manor. She would have great influence over the Richards family. Hence, she should not be someone sloppy. Unexpectedly, Meroy heard Vivian lecturing Hansen a while ago; she thought that Vivian was just deliberately threatening Hansen.

Vivian replied, the pain in her voice evident, “This kid realizes his mistake too late. It’s too late. If he didn’t marry Aria, he would have wronged her and faced Earl’s retaliation. He is now in trouble. I can do nothing. No one has to bear the consequences for his mistakes. No one can help him. He has no choice now. Perhaps only God could save him now. Unless the child in Aria’s belly is not Hansen’s, he would have a chance to win this battle. Maybe this is because the Richards family has not done enough good deeds in our life to deserve a wife like Jenna.”

When Vivian said this, she shed tears of grief, despair engulfed her.

Meroy was stupefied. She thought that Vivian was just scaring Hansen and would find a way to stop this. After all, Vivian liked Jenna, and the couple now had fallen in love with each other. It should be a happy thing for everyone. Therefore, Meroy did not expect such a change. Even Vivian had stopped helping Hansen.

Could it be that Hansen had no choice but to marry that pretentious woman, Aria? If that was the case, she was afraid that the Richards Manor would no longer have peace in the future.

She took a deep breath at the thought of this.
