Chapter 666
“Bastard!” Debra cursed.
Drake, however, was unperturbed.
“Ms. Frazier, you’re back.”
The bodyguard was even more shocked than Drake. Anyone else would have fled by now,
“Of course, I came back,” Debra yelled. “Drake, you’re insane. What did I do wrong that you asked your men to kill me?”
She grabbed the gun holstered at his waist and snapped, “If you want me dead, shoot me in front of my
face.”
She observed his expression, knowing it was not his order.
When she escaped earlier, she debated running away. But she quickly realized how unrealistic that was. She wasn’t familiar with Flesta, and Edgar’s influence was far–reaching. They had all the means to find her. Plus, she didn’t have any money on her. If she got caught while on the run, she would lose all of Drake’s trust. Drake hated betrayal, and her fate wouldn’t be much better than Peter’s.
It was better to return on her own terms, to earn his trust. But to justify her return after abandoning such a golden chance to escape, she needed a believable story–something he couldn’t easily dispute.
And as expected, Drake believed that she had misunderstood him.
He snorted, “If I wanted you dead, I wouldn’t need to have you drowned at sea. Use your brain.”
Playing dumb, she retorted, “But those men are your subordinates.”
“My men don’t always follow my orders to the letter,” Drake replied.
Debra crossed her arms. “Fine. If your men tried to kill me without your say–so, I think you owe me an explanation.”
Drake said, “I already had them thrown into the sea. Any other requests?”
Debra was speechless. Lives meant nothing to Drake. He operated outside the law, not just in Orkgate but even here in Flesta.
“No?” he asked dryly. All content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
“Of course, I have.” Debra furrowed her brow. “Those two must have been hired. I want to know who’s behind it.”
“That’s all?”
“Yes.”
Drake laughed, and Debra frowned.
“What’s so funny?”
“I thought you’d ask me to kill the person pulling the str
