Chapter 2184
Chapter 2184
Gabriel nodded, "Alright, I got it, thanks Shirley!"
"Don't mention it," Shirley replied with a huff, "I just feel bad about dragging you into this mess yesterday. If you need anything, just holler. I might not have cash or clout like Baron, but we're comrades-in-arms, and we can't let that guy push us around!"
"Deal!"
Gabriel hung up the phone and headed to the bathroom for a shower. When he emerged, the bed was made, and as usual, there were fresh clothes laid out for him—a new shirt and trousers, same style as always.
He couldn't help wondering just how many of those shirts she'd bought.
Dressed and ready, he walked out to find Sylvia in her simple loungewear, her hair up in a bun, fixing breakfast.
Some women, no matter what they wear, are just a feast for the eyes!
She placed a fresh batch of egg tarts on the table, then served him toasted bread with beef chunks and a glass of milk, smiling warmly. "It's all just store-bought stuff, so don't turn your nose up at it!"
"It's fine, as long as it's edible, I'm not picky!" Gabriel said.
Sylvia raised an eyebrow slightly and smiled, "I also made some vanilla sugar cake, want to try it?"
Then she remembered, "Oh right, you're not into sweets."
Gabriel looked up, "It's been a while, sure, I'll have a slice."
Sylvia nodded, her lips curving into a smile as she turned back to the kitchen.
The vanilla sugar cake was brought over, and they sat down to eat together.
Sylvia took a sip of her milk, eyes downcast and voice low with a touch of guilt, "I was a bit tipsy last night. I didn't make a scene or say anything out of line, did I?"
Gabriel, his voice steady, replied, "Not really, just a bit clingy."
Sylvia, "..."
Gabriel continued eating and asked nonchalantly, "Do you always have to drink that much when you're out?"
"Not always," Sylvia murmured back, "I just didn't care as much since you were there."
"Field agent's rule: never fully trust anyone, that includes me!" Gabriel said calmly.
Sylvia gave a self-mocking smile, "I couldn't do that last one, didn't you kick me out?"
"It's the same now!"
"And I still can't do it!" Her voice was low, with a stubborn edge.
She looked up to see Gabriel frowning, but her face was adorned with a teasing smile, "Can't stop being cheeky either!"
They looked at each other for a moment, then both lowered their eyes, pretending as if nothing had happened, and continued their meal.
After a brief pause, Gabriel suddenly asked, "Do you need a bodyguard?" NôvelDrama.Org holds text © rights.
"Huh?" Sylvia looked up, startled.
Gabriel spoke with a calm assurance, "I'm free lately, so if you're short a bodyguard, consider me."
Sylvia stared at him, makeup-free and with a frozen expression on her clean face, which was quite endearing.
Gabriel smiled lightly, "Just for a few days. Don't get any grand ideas if it's longer!"
Sylvia sighed softly, "To have you as my bodyguard, even for a day, is more than I can imagine."
"Then it's settled. I'll come with you to work."
She tried hard to recall what exactly had happened last night.
The drinks weren't enough to cause a blackout, so although some of the details were fuzzy, she remembered the gist of her actions.
The worst thing she did was she bit him.
So, was he holding a grudge, planning to make her daytime a misery as revenge?
No, no!
She couldn't allow herself such petty thoughts about Gabriel, the man she admired most in her heart!
