Chapter 772 Split The Bill
Chapter 772 Split The Bill
Skylar couldn't help but think that only a generous fool like Tobias would frequent a restaurant like this, as money was merely a number to him.
She, on the other hand, was the total opposite of Tobias. Unlike him, she would never choose to pay a lump sum upfront when installment options were available. She preferred to pay bit by bit, even if it meant incurring some interest along the way.
She had the impression that the restaurant would not attract many customers due to its high prices. However, she soon realized how naive she was when lunchtime arrived.
There were many wealthy people around, but she was not one of them.
Skylar had thought that she could be considered as a bourgeoisie if she had not lost that much money. However, she would still be far from achieving true wealth.
Throughout her career, Skylar's salary had never been particularly high. Her company would deduct a significant portion of her earnings as commission. Despite her popularity, she also needed good resources to sustain her success, and investors would always try to negotiate for lower fees.
In reality, Skylar's salary was quite meager. Even her endorsement with Gucci was limited to just one season.
The market demand was heavily influenced by the audience's preferences, and unfortunately, due to the disappointing box office performance of her film, “The Ballad of 1978,” Skylar's endorsement for the following season was canceled by the brand.
Rumor had it that Gucci was planning to select a new spokesperson from Royal Entertainment for the next season, and they were considering Saorise.
Mackayla noticed that Skylar, with a mask on, was hesitating outside the restaurant. Noticing Skylar's indecision, Mackayla asked, “Skylar, don't you love Jetroinian cuisine?”
Skylar often found it difficult to reject others because she didn't want to spoil the mood or come across as a party pooper.
Thus, she linked her arm with Mackayla's and walked into the Jetroinian restaurant together.
It happened to be lunchtime, and the restaurant was bustling with customers. Both men and women who patronized the place were very well-dressed, and each of them exuded a regal aura.
Mackayla said under her breath, “It's a trending venue. Many online influencers will check in here. The female ones will also take a crazy load of pictures, eat, and let the guys watching their live stream channel pay for their meals.”
“Don't the women feel bad for making their partners pay so much for their food?”
Mackayla thought Skylar was dense to have asked such a question. “Why would they? They gave the guys a feast for their eyes by being eye candies. These girls are so clever in coaxing men and bewitching them.”
While Mackayla went to reserve a table, Skylar's gaze fell on a girl standing on her right. The girl was very slim, and her skin was as white as snow. She wore a revealing little black dress though it was a cold day. Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.
The man standing across from the girl had a nearly bald head, black-rimmed glasses, and a large belly that resembled that of a heavily pregnant woman. Given his appearance, it was clear that he wouldn't stand a chance of finding a wife if he didn't have money, even in a village.
“Her name is Yvette Hord. She's got over a thousand followers on TikTok, but she's a plain Jane in real life without the camera filter!” Mackayla whispered to Skylar in a serious manner.
Skylar did not know much about online influencers as she seldom spent time browsing through TikTok. Although she had more than ten million followers on her account, it had been ages since she last uploaded a video.
Some of her fans even wondered if she had forgotten her login credentials.
Even though Kate had been reminding her to update her TikTok, she often forgot to do it.
Mackayla held the menu, which was intricately carved onto wood like a scroll, and pondered aloud, “Hmm... What should I order? What about you, Skylar? The sashimi here is exceptional. In fact, I believe it's the best I've ever had. The pieces are so fresh and lustrous.”
Skylar, having little knowledge about sashimi, let alone its texture and appearance, was unfamiliar with such delicacies. The seafood she was most accustomed to was the processed crab sticks stewed in a spicy broth.
Miranda often remarked that Skylar should surround herself with finer things since her living standards had improved.
However, Skylar saw her mother as a hypocrite, someone who spoke without a true understanding of the situation. Living a life of luxury requires money. Where would I get such funds?
Mackayla ordered a large amount of food, leaving Skylar feeling too shy to suggest splitting the bill. She didn't want to appear frugal or stingy in front of her friend, so she steeled herself and offered to pay the bill.
However, Mackayla declared generously, “No worries. This is on me!”
