Everyone gave Amber a big round of applause when she went to the stage to receive her award. Everyone saw a beautiful, confident woman with a big smile on her face. Deep inside, Amber was actually nervous and excited. Nervous that all eyes were on her. Also, Devlin has been intently watching her since earlier. It added more to her nervousness.

“Thank you so much. I would like to dedicate this award to my grandmother who could not make it tonight. This award means a lot to me and to everyone who works with me to make me reach where I am right now. For everything that I have been through to get here, it was all worth it. I would like to thank all the employees of AA Blossoms for all their hard work. With this award, it inspires me to strive harder. Expect that we will give you the best that our company can offer. Thank you so much everyone. Enjoy your night!” She slightly raised her plaque to show to everyone.

When she got downstairs, Devlin was there standing waiting for her and escorted her to her table. She almost walked to the other side to ignore him. He really knows his timing. All the photographers and media were on them. She smiled at them even if deep inside her, she is annoyed at what Devlin just did. He added more gossip for the reporters to talk about.

“What are you doing?” She smiled forcefully. Devlin was only looking at her with an amused look. She rolled her eyes at him. She can see that he is enjoying this. Her uneasiness to be with him made him all the more persistent to get closer to her. She could not react since people were looking at them closely. Not just the reporters but also the guests were showing interest in them.

And the audacity of him. He leaned closer to her and whispered something. To the other spectators, it looked intimate. That there is something between them.

“Could I invite you to dinner tonight?” He said seriously. Amber felt his breath and it brought shivers all over her.

She was about to refuse his invitation but he already pulled her chair for her. He didn’t even let her talk. She couldn’t do anything. She felt the unending flashes from the cameras. She could see those reporters dying to get hold of them.

She glanced at Devlin who got a big smile on his face. He even winked at her before he took a sip of his glass of wine. She tried to calm down to hide her feelings at that moment.

The whole event wrapped up after three more hours. They had an afterparty somewhere. She would join that party with her staff. She saw Devlin waiting for her when some guests were slowly leaving the venue. She stiffened when she felt his hand touching her right arm possessively.

“Mr. Wesley, I am warning you. Don’t do anything stupid in front of everyone here.” Again, she forced herself to smile as reporters and photographers were surrounding them.

“Don’t worry, Mrs. Wesley. I will behave for your sake.” Again, came his wink that she even heard some people giggling around them.

“Mr. Wesley, we believe that Ms. Adams is your date tonight. How come you two did not come together to the event?” Asked the reporter nearest to them.

“Ms. Adams, how do you find your date tonight?” Asked another reporter.

These people would never really stop until they get their answers. Devlin’s bodyguards were quick to help them get out of the venue. She had no choice but to come with Devlin inside a limousine waiting for them just in front of the venue. The moment the door was closed, Amber could not stop herself but to spit out fire at him.

“What was that stunt you pulled inside? I hate you for that. You just ruined my night.” Her eyes were full of anger towards him.

“Babe…” Devlin touched her arm but she pulled away.

“Please, stop all of these. Look at what you did.” She showed him all those reporters and photographers next to their car before their limo drove away.

“I am sorry. I told you that I just wanted to spend time with you. You never give me a chance.” That made Amber give him the look again.

Instead of getting upset at her behavior towards him, he is actually enjoying it. His lil minx becomes more feisty. And she is more beautiful than ever with all her confidence and success. He has been longing to be with her. And now, he is more determined to take her back. All that hatred she is showing towards him, he wants to replace it with love and tenderness. The same feelings he experienced from her five years ago.

“Can we have a truce, just for tonight please? I just want to spend a nice dinner with you.” He said almost pleading. Amber only smirked at him.

“Why? Have you lost your charm with women?” She smiled sarcastically. No matter what happened, she is not going to just melt easily with his words.

“What happened to you, Amber? I did not leave you at all. We are legally married. I am sorry that I did not come to you after all these years. I have other reasons aside from what happened in the company.”

“Devlin, I don’t care about what happened to you or your company. Besides, I am not the naive person you met five years ago.” She retorted back.

“I can clearly see that. But I know that you did not change at all except you gained more confidence and became more beautiful.” Again, he winked at her.

“How can you say that? You don’t know what I have been through to get to this level.” She looked at him with her piercing eyes.

“Like I mentioned before, I knew everything about you. I did not leave you all to yourself. I was in the background but I was supporting you quietly.” He stopped himself for fear that he might give more information to her.

“What do you mean by that? What support are you talking about?” She asked with confusion. Instead of answering her question, Devlin stayed quiet. They finally arrived at a five star restaurant in the city. It’s famous for celebrities. They ditched the after-party since the reporters will surely be there.

They were immediately guided to a private room. They were both quiet as Devlin took their orders. Amber just lets him do what he wants. The food came and they stayed quiet while eating. In the middle of their dinner, Devlin was the one who started to talk to her.

“You look so great! You did great tonight. I always know that one day you will make it big.” He said proudly.

“Thank you.” That’s all she could say to him. Despite her anger towards him for forcing her to come with him, she felt comfortable right now. He is right, they could set aside their issues for now and just enjoy their dinner.

“I heard that you are planning to expand your manufacturing side of your company. That’s really a good move. I like how you manage your business. I am interested in investing in your company and opening up a branch in Seattle.” Amber choked on her food while she heard what Devlin just said.

He immediately poured her a bottle of water after she finished gulping her glass of water.

“Are you kidding me? Your idea is completely absurd.” She laughed at him.

“Why not? I can invest in my wife’s company.” Devlin said without hesitation.

“And what’s that smile for? Am I a joke to you?” Her fierceness made Devlin all the more admire her. He is definitely getting insane.

“Can’t you see? I am just happy to be with you.” Amber’s mouth gaped open. No matter what she does, it seems not to affect him at all. She decided to give him the cold treatment and silence. However, she couldn’t do it. He does force her to her limit.

“Baby, I like this new you. Fierce, confident, gorgeous…”

“Will you knock it off? Do you think you will melt me with your words like you used to do? We both knew that you were only using me.”

Devlin’s pained look showed for a moment. But still, he is determined to get her back.

“I am not here to impress you with my words. That’s what I truly feel for you all these years. Even if you distanced yourself away from me nor showed me your feisty side, it will all the more encourage me to get you back.” Amber only smirks at him. She didn’t voice out about Fiona Ross’ existence in his life.

She went home exhausted but strangely happy and content. She does not know if it is from the award she got. Or from the determined look of Devlin to pursue her. She can’t stop him but he is definitely going to have a hard time.
