Chapter 67
Chapter 67
“Alice, what happened to the money in the Woland Group’s account?” Before Alice could speak, Bruce’s frustrated voice came through the phone. “Listen. Even if you were the biggest shareholder of Woland Group before, you can’t just withdraw all the money from its account. This is a crime. You must return the funds immediately.”
Anxiety had almost driven him insane, especially when he checked that there were only a few million funds available. How could a listed company like theirs have only a few million in funds?
What good would a few million do? It’s not even enough to cover the workers’ salaries this month. Has she lost her mind? How could she have emptied the Woland Group’s account? Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.
“Didn’t you properly review the accounts?” Alice was honestly surprised as she had given Bruce the lowest rating for his abilities, but it now appeared that she had overestimated him yet again.
“I did, and that’s how I knew the company’s account was empty. Where has all the money gone? You can’t tell me that the company did not make any profit. As far as I know, Woland Group has been making money for the past seven years, no matter what they invested in. There must be a lot of money, and it can’t just vanish into thin air.” He failed to understand what she was trying to imply. “Just tell me. Where did the money go?”
“Hmm, let me think. Two years ago, we invested in a ship. Last year, we purchased a plane. In the first half of this year, we acquired a huge batch of jade stones. All of them were purchased under the company’s name. Unfortunately, the ship crashed while the plane is grounded currently due to some regulatory issues, and the jade stones are yet to be processed, so I’m unsure of their current value,” she answered nonchalantly.
Bruce was fuming on the other end of the line. However, if what Alice claimed was true and the purchases were made under the company’s name, then she couldn’t be held responsible for this. And even worse, the money couldn’t be recovered.
“Alice, can you be any stupider than this?!” He hung up the phone in anger. He was no longer the confident person he once was when he first took over Woland Group.
Meanwhile, Alice couldn’t help but chuckle. He’s already getting edgy from this? This is just the beginning. There will be many more things that will make him anxious and enraged along the way.
Bruce was agitated, and so was Elijah as he glared with anger and frustration at Emma in the president’s office. “Answer me. How did Alice obtain those photos and videos? How did she find out about our affairs?”
“I have no idea how this happened.” Emma was also completely shocked when she found out about this. She also wondered how Alice had discovered her and Elijah’s affair.
Given that Emma was still officially recognized as Elijah’s daughter, any public disclosure of her affair with him would utterly destroy her reputation.
“Not only did you fail to harm her, but you’ve also given her leverage over us. You must find a way to ensure she doesn’t expose this matter.” His eyes were fierce. “I sent so many people to track her down when she was in Cliaria, yet none succeeded in eliminating her. Just how is that possible?”
Since they failed to kill Alice in Cliaria, he dared not act recklessly now that she had returned to the country.
“Don’t worry. I have a way out in this matter.” Emma grinned. “Even if we can’t kill Alice, as long as we have leverage over her, she won’t dare to act recklessly or release those photos and videos.”
“You have a solution?” Elijah’s eyes lit up. As she was often the one who advised him, he trusted her quite a bit.
“Yes, I have a good solution.” She did think of a good way to deal with Alice. “Just leave it to me.”
“Good.” He finally felt relieved.
Emma’s eyes flickered, then she leaned into his arms like a little kitten.
With a solution in sight, Elijah eagerly accepted her offer of intimacy and promptly engaged in an intimate encounter with her in the office.
Since Britney had instructed Alice to gradually distance herself from Caroline, which was something that Alice also wanted, she had breakfast with Caroline on the second day of her stay at the Knight Residence and then found an excuse to leave.
Alice originally wanted to head to Galerprises—the company she and Archie founded in Rodcaster.
She realized it was still early, so she went to the mall first for some shopping.
Shortly after she entered the mall, a voice suddenly sounded behind her. “Alice, do you remember the night of your birthday seven years ago? I was the man with you that night.”
Alice was taken aback for a moment. Instead of turning around immediately, she listened carefully to the voice and concluded it belonged to a stranger.
How could she not suspect something suspicious was going on when a stranger approached her from behind and mentioned an event from seven years ago?
She sneered inwardly and turned around to the man standing behind her.
With just one glance, she became certain he was not the man she had spent her birthday night with seven years ago.
Although Alice couldn’t recall the man’s appearance from seven years ago, she was sure that the person standing before her was not him. She had Apollo as a reference; he was undoubtedly
handsome. She had never seen a child who looked better than her own.
Although she acknowledged that the father’s genes had little impact on Apollo’s appearance as her son inherited most of her good looks, seeing her son’s remarkable appearance led her to conclude that the father couldn’t have been too bad-looking.
As for the man in front of her, he was ugly, sleazy, and crude.
If this man were Apollo’s father, her ancestors would be rolling in their graves.
Since the stranger had no motive to extort her and the incident from seven years ago was known to only a few people, Alice deduced that he acted on someone’s orders. She had a strong suspicion of who that person might be.
Although there was no evidence about the incident that happened seven years ago, she had long suspected that it was the doing of Elijah and Emma.
She ignored the man and headed toward a nearby beverage shop, where she found a vacant seat and settled down. As it was still early in the morning, the shop was relatively empty, with only a few customers around.
Naturally, the man followed closely behind Alice.
She took out her phone and dialed a number while casually asking the man, “What’s your name, sir?”
“I’m Josh Hayes.” His eyes fixed on her with an unconcealable look of greed.
After getting Elijah on the line, Alice put the phone on speaker mode and placed it on the table with its screen down.
