Chapter 242
Egbert took the pills, but he didn't head upstairs. Instead, he just laid on the couch.
Eileen sat on the floor in front of him. He turned towards her, playing with her loose hair strands with his fingers, twirling them aimlessly. Annoyed by his actions, Eileen turned to him, "What are you doing?"
Egbert gave her a weary look but said nothing.
Eileen stood up, picked up her laptop and her empty plate from her finished pasta, and headed towards the kitchen.
After she put the plate in the kitchen, she didn't even glance at Egbert when she came out. She went straight upstairs to her room.
In the living room, Egbert watched as Eileen disappeared around the corner of the stairs.
He raised an eyebrow, finally stood up, and muttered to himself as he climbed the stairs, "Guess she believed it."
For the next two days, Eileen stayed in her room, she didn't come out even for meals, which the nanny brought up to her.
Two days later, on Monday.
Early in the morning, Eileen got up and left the house.
She was dressed in a light brown business suit, carrying a laptop bag in her hand, as she descended the stairs.
The nanny was preparing breakfast and asked, "Ms. Lopez, are you going out?"
"Yes." Eileen confirmed, dashing into the kitchen to grab three donuts from the plate, one in her mouth and two in her hand, her words muffled, "I won't be back for lunch."
The nanny quickly provided a Ziplock bag for her donuts and handed her two cartons of juice, saying, "Eat on the go, don't starve."
Eileen gratefully accepted them and was about to leave when she turned back to ask, "Is Egbert's cold better?"
The nanny was taken aback, "Master Egbert has a cold?"
Eileen deduced that he must be better and didn't say anything else. She waved goodbye and hurriedly left.
The front door opened and closed.
The nanny was about to return to the kitchen when she saw Egbert descending the stairs.
She asked, "Master Egbert, do you have a cold?"
Egbert, holding a stack of documents, casually replied, "No."
The nanny said, "But Ms. Lopez said you had a cold."
Egbert grunted, "I was pretending. She didn't care, so I stopped."
The nanny was speechless.
The boardroom at the top floor of Apex Synergy Group was especially serious today.
Ableson sat in the chairman's seat. His face was plastered with a multitude of crumpled band-aids, making him look like an uneven toad.
Ableson was angry. He scanned the room and asked, "How did things get to this point?!"
One of the shareholders coldly retorted, "Isn't it because of you? The number of original shares issued was determined by you. That girl named Eileen is your adopted daughter! You're responsible for this mess, Ableson. Don't you think you should take the blame?"
Ableson slammed his hand on the table, "I should take the blame? Then why don't I get all your dividends! I've been begging and pleading for the eight hundred million for the land development case to cover the capital chain, and what have you all been doing?"
"Fine, since you put it that way, I've decided to divest! Withdraw my shares!"
"You......"
"Enough!" Seeing the escalating argument, the oldest shareholder in the room, Clark, intervened, "This is not the time to blame each other, Ableson, you said she would come today, so when will..." Before Clark could finish his sentence, the black door of the conference room was abruptly pushed open.
"I'm sorry, I'm late." Accompanied by a gust of fragrant wind, a girl in a brown ladies' suit, holding a laptop in one hand and a pen in the other, walked
in.
Eileen put her silver pen into her suit pocket and casually said, "I met a fan in the elevator and signed an autograph for her, which made me a bit late. Sorry."
She finished speaking but no one else uttered a word.
Everyone just stared at her, their eyes filled with scrutiny, rejection, and evaluation.
Eileen was courteous to everyone. She nodded slightly as a greeting to the shareholders and naturally walked towards the chairman's seat.
There, Ableson sat firmly in his office chair, gripping the armrests tightly, showing no signs of getting up. Eileen placed her laptop on the conference table, tilted her head, and smiled at Ableson, "Mr. Lopez?"
Ableson gave her a disdainful look, as if he was looking at an ant.
Eileen was taken aback for a moment, then chuckled, nodded good-naturedly, and said, "No problem."
Then, she turned to the secretary outside the door, "Bring me a chair."
Was she giving up the chairman's seat? Huh, nothing more than that.
The other shareholders exchanged glances, their eyes filled with contempt. They thought she would be as domineering and arrogant as the rumors suggested. But she was just a young girl, intimidated by the number of people here, knowing to keep her tail between her legs.
A few shareholders exchanged glances, not paying much attention to Eileen.
At this moment, the secretary carefully pushed a chair over.
Eileen raised her hand and smiled, "I'll take it from here."
The secretary hurriedly handed the chair to Eileen.
Eileen held the back of the chair with one hand and walked in front of Ableson.
The next second, her expression unchanged and her smile still on her face, she suddenly kicked the back of Ableson's chair!novelbin
The office chair with wheels flew out instantly.
"Ah!" Ableson felt a sudden loss of weight and screamed in fright.
"Ah--"
With a loud noise, Ableson flew out of the chair and hit the podium in the front of the meeting room.
The wheel of the chair hit the base of the podium, and Ableson was almost bounced off the chair, falling headfirst into the corner of the podium! Ableson's forehead was immediately bruised, and he struggled for a moment, then suddenly fainted...
He...fainted! The meeting room was suddenly silent.
Eileen was still smiling. She placed her chair in the chairman's position.
After taking a seat and leaning back, her legs crossed, she spoke in a gentle tone, "If Mr. Lopez has a fondness for that chair, I certainly wouldn't want to deprive him of it. If he wishes to sit, then by all means, he should sit. I'm quite easy-going, any chair will do, as long as the view is good."
The room fell into an eerie silence following her words.
Eileen paid no mind to the shareholders, their faces a mix of pale and stunned disbelief. She opened up her laptop, typed a few keys, and a PowerPoint presentation appeared on the large screen in front of them.
Eileen gave a simple command to her secretary, "Lights off."
The secretary, swallowing nervously, complied without a word. The room was plunged into darkness, the only light coming from the blue glow of the projected presentation.
"Let's get down to business, we all have valuable time to use," Eileen said, nonchalantly beginning the presentation.
The meeting was over in less than twenty minutes.
Throughout the meeting, Eileen was the only one speaking.
She gave a brief outline of the majority of the financial tender case, the subsequent profits, and finally, she turned to the last slide of the PPT, calmly stating, "This is the estimated dividend at the end of the year. This figure represents the first phase of profit-sharing that each shareholder can
expect."
The shareholders were initially dismissive, but as they saw the long string of zeros on the screen, they were visibly taken aback, "Is it really that much?"
Eileen simply smiled, "Per person, yes, that much."
"WHAT?!" A shareholder stood up in shock.
Others followed suit, their faces mirroring the disbelief and surprise at Eileen's statement.
Even Clark, the oldest and most composed of them, bowed his proud head in the face of such a financial prospect, asking Eileen politely, "Ms. Lopez, Apex Synergy Group has never ventured into financial projects before. Are you sure you can handle this?"
Eileen smiled, "Of course."
The shareholders began whispering amongst themselves.
Clark asked again, "And this profit estimate, is it definitive?"
Eileen replied calmly, "If you do not believe me, I can send you the data later. You may consult experts if you wish."
"We do, we believe you!" One of the shareholders who had previously quarreled with Ableson hastily said, "Ms. Lopez is the largest shareholder of Apex Synergy Group. If the company prospers, it's all thanks to Ms. Lopez. Ms. Lopez wouldn't joke around with the company's profits, right
everyone?"
A chorus of agreement followed, "Yes, we trust Ms. Lopez."
"Ms. Lopez is so bold. Truly a young achiever."
At this, Eileen tilted her head, looking puzzled, "Ms. Lopez?"
Someone immediately corrected, "Not Ms. Lopez, it's President Lopez! Don't get it wrong! President Lopez, it's getting late. How about we all have lunch together to welcome you?"
Eileen laughed, waving it off, "There's no rush. We'll eat, of course, but there's one more thing I'd like to discuss with the shareholders."
All eyes were on her.
Eileen asked, "Don't you all think that the name 'Apex Synergy Group' isn't very lucky since it didn't go well before? As the saying goes, 'new broom sweeps clean.' I'm someone who seeks innovation, change, breakthrough, and I refuse to be stagnant or conservative. What do you all think about changing the company's name?"
Change the name?
The shareholders were taken aback, "Changing the name of a listed company is a big deal!"
Eileen replied, "Exactly because it's a big deal, we should take it seriously. I mean no disrespect, I'm just discussing it with you. If we really decide to change the name, there will be a lot of paperwork to do. If you really oppose it, we can drop the idea."
Drop the idea? With you holding a business opportunity worth billions in profit, who would dare to drop the idea?
In the end, all Clark could do was ask uncertainly, "President Lopez, do you have a preferred name in mind?" Eileen casually replied, "Yes, I think 'Nathan Finance' sounds good. It's my father's name. Do you all like it?"
