Daisy's Code Novel by Amelia Bennett

Chapter 35

After hanging up the phone, Fiona returned it to Laura, feeling a twinge of guilt. She realized that she hadn’t done well this time, forgetting to inform Sherry about requesting a leave of absence, which even led to Sherry calling directly. “Laura, I’m really sorry about this. I should have thought things through better,” Fiona said, looking apologetically at Laura, her face displaying a sense of remorse.

Even though Laura felt a bit neglected by Fiona, she couldn’t bring herself to confront her. Instead, she forced a smile and replied, “It’s okay, Mom. You’ve been so busy taking care of me. There’s no need to apologize. We’re family.”

Laura had learned well from Fiona. No matter how much they might dislike someone, they could always wear a smile. They maintained their composure even during the most awkward situations.

Seeing that Laura wasn’t upset eased Fiona’s worries. “What do you want to eat? I’ll buy something for you,” she offered, perhaps feeling the need to make it up to Laura.Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.

Laura pretended to think for a moment and then said, “Anything’s fine. Just pick something you think I’ll like.”

Fiona forced a stiff smile and left the ward.

Not long after Fiona left, Laura took out her phone and called Yvonne. After their conversation, Yvonne assured her that everything was going smoothly, which put Laura’s mind at ease,

Meanwhile, all the students at Narston High School were eagerly waiting for the school bell to ring. Though their motives varied, they all shared a common desire to get out of class.

As soon as the bell rang, Oliver bolted out the door. Daisy, seeing this, quickly waved goodbye to Emma and rushed out. She hurried to the convenience store and spotted Lance waiting outside for her. As soon as he saw Daisy, he quickly said, “Let’s go. He’s already left.”

Without a second thought, Daisy followed him, but when she finally caught sight of their target, she exclaimed, “It’s him?!” “Do you know him?” Lance asked, glancing at the suspicious-looking guy ahead, confusion etched on his face.

Daisy glanced at the tall figure and explained, “Yeah, that’s Oliver from our class. Emma mentioned that he likes Yvonne, so it makes sense that Yvonne decided to turn to him.”

Lance shot a disdainful look at Oliver, feeling a wave of contempt. He couldn’t believe how easily a girl could toy with a guy like that, especially when they didn’t even have an intimate relationship.

“Why did you stop?” Daisy took a couple of steps and noticed Lance standing there. She couldn’t help but walk back to him, grabbing his hand and urging him forward.

In front of them, Oliver was cautiously scanning the area, as if assessing his surroundings. Gradually, he seemed to relax and confidently walked toward a small path. Once he confirmed that there was no one around, he strode right in.

Daisy glanced at the path Oliver had taken, released Lance’s hand, and cautiously approached the narrow way ahead.

The warmth of his hand slipped away, and Lance looked down at his empty palm, a hint of irritation flashing across his face as he stared at Daisy.

Before long, Daisy returned from her exploration. “Let’s go. I spotted him. There are many paths inside, so we need to hurry and catch up.” With that, she marched forward.

Lance was left trailing behind, and she assumed he didn’t want to follow her. Hesitating, she turned to him. “Mr. Lindsey, if

yourself. You can head back. I appreciate you telling me about this. I can you don’t want to come, you don’t have to force handle the rest on my own.” Saying this, Daisy stepped away, disappearing from his view.

Lance gritted his teeth at Daisy’s cluelessness. Frustrated, he followed her. Once he caught up, he shot her a fierce glare. “Do you really think I’m not worth your trust?”

Perhaps Lance’s voice was too loud, Oliver suddenly looked back in their direction. In a quick reaction, Lance pushed Daisy against the nearby wall, his gaze fixated on her. From Oliver’s perspective, the two looked like a couple having a spat, and he didn’t give it much thought, continuing on his way.

“I was just worried about you getting caught. Now let’s move.” Lance naturally took Daisy’s hand again, as if it was the most normal thing in the world.

Daisy was too focused on Oliver to even register Lance’s gesture. She followed behind him, and everything proceeded smoothly from there. They trailed Oliver and soon found a group of thugs.

Oliver approached them confidently, his brow furrowing as he asked, “What happened? How did that girl end up in an accident? Is it linked to you guys?”

Daisy could see their lips moving but was too far away to catch the details. Growing restless, she scratched her head, wishing she could fly over and eavesdrop.

“Calm down.” Noticing Daisy’s anxiousness, Lance spoke slowly. He pointed toward an abandoned auto shop nearby, and Daisy’s eyes lit up.

They sneaked into the dilapidated auto shop, which was just a wall away from where Oliver and the others were. They could finally hear the conversation clearly.

“Jonas, I made it pretty clear you were just supposed to scare her. Why did you…” Oliver’s impatient voice drifted into their ears.

Daisy and Lance silently noted everything being said, preparing to analyze it later.

Jonas suddenly said, “Yeah, that’s what we planned to do, but a car appeared out of nowhere. Honestly, we don’t know what to do, so no more questions.”

Jonas was on the brink of collapse. He was just a teenager, after all. He acted like a thug only because he thought it was cool He had no idea it would lead to something like this.

By contrast, Oliver remained eerily calm as if he had expected Jonas to say that. “Alright, just chill. Let’s figure out how to cover it up,” he said, his voice steady.

“Go ahead,” Jonas replied. He felt like he had nothing left to lose and was ready to try anything.

Meanwhile, Daisy had climbed up to the roof of the auto shop, lying flat and observing the tense standoff between Oliver and the group of thugs below. She quietly memorized their appearances.

Before long, a figure joined Daisy on the rooftop. Lance, somehow making his way up, caught her by surprise. She shot him a puzzled glance but then returned her focus to eavesdropping.

With a cold tone, Oliver said, “The person you scared is Laura. She has a sister, Daisy, who has just returned to the Wilder family. If anyone ever comes looking for you, just say you were acting on Daisy’s orders.”
