Contract Go Wrong: The CEO’s Tempting Bride

“Don’t worry, Ma’am, your husband is right behind us,” said one of the staffs as they pushed her inside the hospital.

Gina dropped her hands and curled herself with both arms wrapped around her stomach. She doesn’t need Adrian, she just wanted his warmth.

The journey through the elevator felt like forever before she was finally brought inside a VIP ward. They transferred her onto the hospital’s bed and soon after, only one staff was left inside the ward.

Her head turned to the side and Adrian was standing against the wall, his dark eyes were fixed on her with great intensity.

Gina could not fathom his expression and broke eye contact with him as the nurse injected something sharp into her arm.

Her vision began to blur then she felt something warm draped over her. The nurse’s voice floated from a distance and she could also hear Adrian’s voice as they conversed with one another.

She couldn’t register any of their words while the drug began to take effect and slowly, sleep overtook her.

The Next Morning…

Adrian walked out of the bathroom, now dressed in a business suit. He sauntered toward the bed and looked at the IV drip which was dropping at a rapid speed.

It was the third drip since last night. Why was she still sleeping?

His hand wandered from her forehead to her neck, to feel the girl’s pulse. Then his expression turned calm and he held the blanket which was now only covering her waist downward then pulled it over her.

The assistant who was standing behind him and was holding a briefcase let out a small cough and he choked on his own saliva at what he was witnessing.

In just a short time, his boss was already head over heels for the girl. Seeing how he had handled her tenderly and the slight worry he saw in his eyes, the assistant was relieved that his boss did not end up with a particular someone.

If only he could get another glimpse at the angelic girl, however, his boss’s back was now the only thing in his vision. He craned his neck from one side to another but finally sighed in disappointment.

Right at that moment, the door opened and a guy in a white lab coat walked inside.

“What is wrong with her?” Adrian muttered with a slight frown as the doctor stopped beside him. The nurse had told him last night that it was period cramps, why was she given so many shots of injection last night apart from the drips and why was she still asleep.

Ryan shoved both hands in his pants pockets and sighed. He studied the girl for a few seconds then shook his head. “Look at her… don’t you notice anything?”

Her face was pale almost as a sheet. Her dried lips had lost all their color and were now greyish blue. But wasn’t that because she was in pain last night?

His eyes narrowed then his thoughts wandered to last night when she had pinned herself to his body. He quickly shook the thoughts off then slid his hand under the blanket and withdrew it after a few moments.

“She’s skinny.” He turned back to his friend who nodded.

Adrian’s eyes dimmed and clenched his fists. What was wrong with her? Why was she so skinny? Didn’t he say she wasn’t allowed to fall sick? Why didn’t she take care of her body?

The assistant shivered at the sudden change in atmosphere. What were they discussing? Did the doctor tell him something bad? Why had his boss’s mood suddenly taken a ninety-degree turn?

“There’s something I need to let you know…” Ryan turned away from the bed and faced the furious guy. “In my office,” he added.

Adrian glanced again at the girl then looked down at his wristwatch. “Frank, go back to the company,” he said to his assistant.

“Yes, Sir.” The assistant nodded in a frantic movement then hurried out of the ward.

And Adrian gave the girl a last glance then followed his friend out of the ward.

** Inside the doctor’s office **

The guys sat across from each other on a couch. And without wasting a second, Ryan started.

“It’s obvious that she has experienced this pain in the past. But her body is currently in a weak state. Any kind of slight pain, I’m afraid she can’t handle it.”

“What is the source of her illness then.” Adrian relaxed back on the couch and asked calmly. If she has experienced this pain in the past but now her body could not handle it because she’s weak, then his assumptions were right, she wasn’t taking care of her body.

Ryan let out a small laugh and shook his head. “You’re her husband. No one should know better than you the reason why she’s sick.”

Adrian glared at him, and he laughed again then said, “You need to see for yourself.”

He rose to his feet then walked to his desk and picked up two files. 

On walking back, he handed both files to him and sat back down on the couch.

“Those are her previous and current medical reports,” he said, his expression now serious.

“As you can see, Adrian… your wife.” He emphasized the word ‘your wife’ then continued. “She has been diagnosed with malnutrition. Her body’s strength is deteriorating gradually because the vital nutrients it needs have become deficient due to a lack of healthy food… It is obvious that she has been eating junk foods for a long time.” he stressed every word while meeting the guy’s dark gaze.

“Do you blame me for that?” Adrian let out a dark chuckle. That girl. So she has been eating junk foods. ‘How stupid.’ Even though he didn’t eat at home since the butler left, he had made sure that all kinds of food ingredients were supplied to the mansion. What was wrong with her head? Does she not know it’s dangerous to eat junk food all the time? Was she trying to get sick intentionally?
