Chasing My Ex-wife Back

Chapter 79

Chapter 79

Cole leaned closer, kissed her forehead, then they made their way back to the table. He sat after she took her seat and they both dug in.

The duo were halfway through their meal, with Hailey eating slowly when Cole spoke.

“I can order another bottle of wine for you.”

“No thanks,” Hailey said immediately. She placed down her cutlery, picked up the napkin on the table, and wiped her lips.

“You sure?” Cole asked.

She nodded. “I feel tired already so I will just stick with water. Wine would make me more exhausted.”

“Do you have any breaks on your schedule soon?” Cole asked.

“There is always work to do in both companies. If I’ve got reasons to take breaks, then I take some time off. Why do you ask?”

Cole dropped his cutlery. He placed his hands on his lap, fiddling with his fingers. “I saw a beautiful place and I would like for us to spend the weekend there.”

A small smile crept to Hailey’s lips. “Just the two of us?”

“Cole nodded. “I don’t know if Debbie would be kind enough to watch the twins but if she can’t, that means we have to bring them along. But the plan is just for you and me.”

Hailey nodded. “Debbie loves them. I am sure she wouldn’t mind. What date do you have in mind?”

“Next weekend?”

“I will clear my schedule!”

“So where will we be going?” Hailey asked excitedly.

“You will have to wait for us to get there for you to find out.”

Hailey smiled. “I can’t wait.”

Cole stared at her with so much adoration in his eyes. “I’m glad to know you are excited about it.”

“Thank you,” Hailey said, accepting Cole’s hand as he helped her down from the front passenger seat of his car.

Cole shut the door, put his hand on the small of Hailey’s back, and led her to the door. They got in front of the door and stood opposite each other. “I can come pick you up from work tomorrow if you want.”

Cole stared at her inquisitively.

“I think I am going to be really busy tomorrow. I’m not sure but I’ll text you.”

Cole nodded. “I’d be waiting for your text.”

“I want to give the boys some kisses before I take my leave.”

“Are you taking permission?” Hailey mocked.

“I can’t wait for us to start living together.”

Hailey smiled, nodding. They both made their way in and went straight to the boys‘ room. Cole gave them goodnight kisses and Hailey saw him off to the door.

Before she could escape, Cole wrapped his arms possessively around her waist. He leaned closer to her and placed a quick kiss on her lips. “I am just a call away if you need anything.”

“Sure. Thank you for tonight. Sorry, I almost ruined it.”

Cole shook his head “You would have made a deal about Natasha’s presence. Thank you for being understanding.”

Hailey shrugged. “I know I’m the Queen of your heart so I’ve got nothing to worry about.”

“No one’s gonna come between us.” Cole sealed his words with a long passionate kiss.

“I was almost telling you all to get a room.” Debbie giggled the moment Hailey showed up in the living room.

Hailes rolled her eyes as she made her way over to the couch, beside Debbie.

“I embarrassed myself so much today.”

“How?” The smile faded from Debbie’s lips, a frown forming on her forehead.

Hailey sighed deeply.

“Talk to me, babe?” Debbie said, looking more worried. “Is it Vanessa and Connie again?”

Hailes shook her head. “There’s a tiny probability that I might be pregnant.”

The worry left Debbie’s face, replaced by the biggest smile Hailey had ever seen on her. “Are you serious?!!!”

“Don’t get your hopes up. It could be a false alarm?”

“Does Cole know?”

“I’m not sure about the news so he doesn’t.”

“Well if you think you are, then I trust your instinct. But why do you feel you might be carrying a child?” She took a glance at Hailey’s flat

belly.

“I have been feeling awfully tired, I am sensitive to certain smells, I threw up in front of Cole, I don’t even remember if I am late.”

“We bumped into Cole’s ex at the restaurant. More like she came over to flaunt it in my face that she dated Cole before.”

“Was she bitchy to you?”

“I don’t know but I don’t trust her, I had an episode so she came to check on me in the bathroom. She overheard me when I was complaining

to Cole about the weird taste of the wine. She’s a nurse so she predicted I might be having early signs of pregnancy.”

“For someone who you’ve never seen before, she seems too blunt to be prying into your business.”

“You can say that again.”

“How did she guess? It could just be you having a temporary bad taste bud?”

“She’s not sure either. She asked if I was having other symptoms too like nausea and that it could be signs of early pregnancy.”

“I am shocked that she said nothing to Cole. Or so I think because Cole didn’t confront me about anything. I don’t think he would be that calm knowing there is a possibility that I could be pregnant.”

Debbie smiled. “I think he would have taken you to the hospital himself to find out instead of bringing you home.”

“But how do you feel about it?” Debbie asked, staring at her best friend intently,

“Please don’t stare at me like I am pregnant.”

“You could be.”

“I don’t know. I don’t feel pregnant. I just feel sick. Almost as if I need a week of bedrest. I know I have been really carefree when it comes to making love with Cole but I don’t know why this feels so foreign to me.”

“Should I get you a test to confirm?” Debbie asked Hailey who did not seem convinced.
