Chapter 1494
"I'm not as drunk as you. I'll just call a ride home. It's pretty convenient these days with all the ride-hailing apps. Do you want me to wait for someone from your family to come pick you up, or should I head out?" Caden had mostly been watching Ben drink tonight, barely touching his own glass.
Ben shook his head. "No need to wait for me. Head home, and just shoot me a message when you get there."
"Alright, then I'll go," Caden replied, standing up quickly and leaving in a hurry.
After walking a bit, he glanced back and sighed to himself.
He would like to consider Ben a good friend, but their families were just too different. It was an uncrossable gap lay between them. No matter how hard he worked, his destination would never match Ben's starting point. Still, was it wrong for him to want a better life, to try and change his situation?
After working the whole day, Jamie sank onto the sofa, exhausted.
Today had really worn her out. But looking at her bank balance, she felt that all her effort was worth it. The money she had earned was no small amount!
"Jamie, you look exhausted. How much did you even make today?" Winnie asked, coming over to massage Jamie's shoulders and legs.
Jamie waved her off. "You're pregnant, remember? And didn't the doctor say you need rest? I can't have you, a pregnant woman, waiting on me. How would that look?"
"It's not even real exercise, just moving my arms a bit. I feel bad for you. You're way more tired than I am," Winnie replied, feeling guilty.
Every day, Jack worked himself to the bone, and Jamie did the same, juggling multiple jobs. Winnie was the only one among the three of them who had so much free time.
"I sometimes feel like I'm wasting away, just sitting at home all day," she sighed.
"You're not like me. You don't have any burdens. Why work yourself to exhaustion? Honestly, I'd love to live like you do," Jamie said with a bittersweet smile.
She didn't envy that her sister had someone to take care of her. She envied that Winnie didn't have any worries.
If only Charlie were a healthy kid. Then, the money Jamie earned could go towards improving his life. He could go to preschool, make friends, play outside in the evenings. He could be just like any other kid, instead of spending all his time in a hospital room.
"You should find a good man,"

Winnie suggested. "That'd take t
half the load. Then, the four of us could go out and have fun together. Wouldn't that be nice?"
Jamie just smiled without responding.
Winnie's experiences were so
different from hers. Jamie had been through a lot and learned some hard truths along the way. Winnie, though, was still very much a dreamer.
Ben played the perfect husband in front of Winnie, showering her with affection. But what if, one day, he decided to stop acting? Just then, Jamie's phone rang. It was Ben.
Her phone was on the coffee table, and as soon as she saw the screen, Jamie's first instinct was to grab it and decline the call.
But Winnie looked up and spotted the screen too. "That's Jack's number. It's so late. Why would he be calling you?"
Without waiting, Winnie picked up the phone and answered.
