Chapter 1177
Yvonne did not want to receive the flowers Joe had sent her.
However, when the delivery person arrived, she hurried out to sign for them before Nina could notice. She had not changed her mind. She just did not want Nina to find out.
After ripping up the card and tossing the flowers into the trash bin outside, Yvonne walked back inside the house. As soon as she entered, she was greeted by Nina's knowing smile. Yvonne forced an awkward grin, then quickly turned to head upstairs. "You know, whatever you're doing, I support you. We're best friends, and you don't need to worry about me finding out," Nina said, cutting straight to the heart of it. She had already sensed that Yvonne was hiding something.
Yvonne felt a pang of guilt. She licked her lips and replied, "I know you're always looking out for me. I just don't want you to worry. I've got this under control, trust me. Just give me some time."
Nina raised an eyebrow, puzzled. "Is the person sending flowers really that important? Even someone I can't afford to offend?"Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g
Yvonne was about to explain when Nigel and Nash walked in, overhearing the conversation about the flowers. Nigel immediately rushed over, grabbing Yvonne's hand, his voice full of concern.
"Someone sent you flowers? Do you like flowers? I'll buy you as many as you want. No, wait! I'll just buy the entire flower shop!" His eagerness was clear, and Nina could not help but notice the intensity in his words. Sensing an opportunity, Nina chimed in with a mischievous smile, "Every girl loves flowers! And if you're serious, Mr. Gibson, make sure it's not all talk."
Nigel, eager to please, quickly made good on his promise and ordered a bouquet of roses. When the flowers arrived, the card's message was a humorous coincidence. It had the same words as Joe's earlier note.
Yvonne looked at the different
signature and could not help but laugh at the situation. The message, while sweet and romantic, now felt absurd Both Joe and Nigel had sent nearly identical declarations of affection, one right after the other.
"What's wrong? You don't like the message? Next time, I'll write it myself," Nigel said, noticing Yvonne's reaction and promising to do better. Yvonne simply handed the flowers back to him. "Mr. Gibson, I don't want to see you. Please, don't come looking for me again," she said firmly, leaving everyone stunned.
Nigel looked as though he wanted to
say something, but Nina stepped in, stopping him. As Yvonne walked upstairs, Nigel gave a defeated smile. Nina thought of offering him some comforting words but held back. This was Yvonne's decision, and Nina knew it was not her place to interfere.
For the next few days, it rained heavily. Yvonne found it inconvenient to get around but was determined to wrap up her work at the gallery and leave as soon as possible.
Nigel's renovations had turned the
gallery into a popular social media
destination, but Yvonne was more concerned about her artwork being mishandled by the crowds of visitors. Each night, she stayed late to make sure everything was in order before closing.
One particularly stormy night, Yvonne said goodbye to the gallery staff and made her way to the bus stop. Yvonne had ordered a rideshare, but due to the rain, the nearest pick-up point was the bus stop.
The streets were nearly empty, and the few people around hurried by, too preoccupied to notice her. In a way, that was comforting. At such a late hour, the last thing she wanted was unwanted attention.
Five minutes had passed since the agreed pick-up time, but the car still had not arrived. Yvonne sent a message to the driver, only to be met with silence. As she was about to text Nina for help, a car pulled up beside her. The backseat window rolled down, revealing Joe's face.
