Chapter 04

I Don’t Like You

“You haven’t said a word for about five minutes you’ve been here.” His voice was deep baritone. And calm. Ethan has forgotten why he was here for a moment. He was occupied in thought.

“Why do you want to see me, Ethan.”

Hearing his name from Kenzo lips brought a smile to his face. But he couldn’t tell him the reason for his visit, it would sound stupid and childish. And he doesn’t want Kenzo to look at him that way.

“I came to see you.” He said instead.

“Really?”

“You hardly come over to the house, no one has seen you or heard from you for the past couple of months, you don’t pick calls. you didn’t visit. That’s why am here.”

“You’ve seen me now, haven’t you, so leave.”

“Why are you being rude to me.”

“I should ask Aziel to walk you out.”

“Brother.”

He was getting worse every passing day, before they would talk for hours, then it began to shorten as days went by and now they couldn’t talk for five minutes. He treated him. Like a stranger.

Which he wasn’t.

“If you have something important to say to me, next time. Give it to Aziel he’ll pass the information, I don’t want you coming here again.”

“Why’re treating me like this, am your brother ain’t I.”

He didn’t give him an answer instead he showed him his back, walking out.

“He’s so cruel!”

He whispered turning to the door. Still couldn’t comprehend why he was behaving like that, he was more closer to Kenzo than their elder brother, Laden. While they were much younger, Kenzo left when he was twelve, leaving the Brennon mansion.

Still hadn’t know the reason he left.

“You wanted to ask for his help, didn’t you?” Aziel asked.

“How did you know about that.”

He shrugged. “Seems to be the only thing that could get you hurrying down here. And he knows that too. You wanted to ask for his help on something.”

“Right?”

“Yeah.”

Aziel opens the door. ” I should as well see you out.”

“I need to think of something. I couldn’t let them off.”

“You could always ask sir Brennon for help.”

“Not bad.” But just that Kenzo was more wealthier than their father. He could get things done with just a snap of fingers. That’s why he had hurried down here. It’s seems like he going back to his root after all. The thought of driving back home, frustrate him. It was two hours drive from here down to the mansion. Why did he choose to live far?

While he was treated like an outsider, everyone acted so indifference. Though he was the youngest he still deserves to know.

Staring down at the mansion he wished things were different, even if it was just a little bit. The house was lonely and quiet. Hardly any difference from a graveyard.

Entering the car, he thought of a what to do, how is he gonna to make that ugly girl pay. He need to think of a plan. A perfect one. Driving out, he brood deeply.

And an idea hit him.

Darn it!

He hit the wheel. With excitement.

It was late before Elina round up for the day, with no more dramas completely exhausted, she sat down on the floor, her eyes were falling, her back and waist aches. She needed a hot bath at least.

“Elina you haven’t wipe the tables, clean the floor, the plates are still stuck up in the kitchen, whose gonna do all that.”

“That’s not part of my..”

“What did you say.”

“it’s late. ”

“It won’t take a couple of minutes to be done with all these.”

“Then why didn’t you do it yourself bitch!” She mumbled. Standing up from the floor.

“Be snappy, when you’re done, close up.”

“You’re leaving me here.”

“I should sit and start talking with you, have you forgotten the mess you made today. That’s your punishment.”

“Lady Carol.”

“What are you still waiting for, get to work now, or you’re planning on spending the night here.”

“I might die.”

“Not after you ate all those pizza.”

“You saw me?”

“Humph!” She pick up her wallet from the counter.

“See you tomorrow, that’s if you’re not fired by then.”

Elina eventually end up laying on the ground, she gave at the clock. It was almost ten and she was still stock here. Very good of Carol, to leave her here alone.

“There’s no way am finishing up on time. Sure am sleeping in here.” Picking up her phone from the table in front of her. No miss call, no text messages, just nothing, nobody called her, who was she expecting to call in the first place. Her father, he was late. Her mother was late as well, her step mom, well no!

She doesn’t want the life of a Cinderella. It was better, Agatha had thrown her out two night after the funeral of her father. If she hadn’t maybe their would have been a tale of Cinderella. Life was terrible for her at first, she was just a minor.

“What are you thinking about. Elly.”

“Oh my god!”

“Ray you startled me.”

“Sorry.” He chuckled, taking the spot next to her.

“How did you know I was here?”

“Check on you at home and you weren’t there, and I thought of the place you can be. Here. That’s why I came here. You should be at home resting”

“Ain’t done with work yet.”

“Is there more work to do, I don’t see any customer around, except from me.”

“I need to clean, wipe then wash.” She blinks her eyes at him.

“I came to see if you’re fine, so I’ll leave now. See you tomorrow.” He stood up.

She stood up as her, blocking his path.

“C’mon, Ray. Help me out.” She pouted.

“You know I can’t resist you when you do that.” He chuckled, and took off his shirt. Put on a glove. And took a towel.

“I’ll clean.”

They work round, adjusting and fixing, Elina was busy working out, how she was going to tell him. She has feelings for him. He was her best friend. It wasn’t wrong to fall in love with her best friend was it?

She lie to herself it was just a common feelings but she knows it wasn’t. And her chances was now or ne’er.

“Ray” she called, standing in front of him.

“Anything else I could do for you.”

“Give me a minute of your time.”

“You’ve something to say to me.” He pulls off the glove from his hands.

She nodded and chew on her lower lip.

“Go on am listening.”

“I like you Ray.”

“.. but not that way. I mean beyond been friends. Not as friends but as something other than that.” It took a lot of courage to say all that. She wanted to say It long ago but hadn’t got the guts to.

“I don’t like you that way El, I only sees you as a friend. I don’t like you.”
