Harvey froze where he stood, no words coming out of his mouth. He looked at Rebecca in disbelief as if he never expected such words would come out of her mouth. Rebecca just smiled mysteriously, touched Harvey’s chest and went out after throwing a triumphant glance at Alicia.

“What was that, Harvey?!

Rebecca was pleased to hear Alicia scream frantically at Harvey. She should have done it a long time ago; why was she so foolish and acting like an angel? She recognized that sometimes being wicked was necessary so that people would think twice about hurting her.

“That slut and her allies need to be punished and I’ll do it with my own hands! I promise!‘ she muttered, clenching her fists.

She checked her watch, and it showed four in the afternoon. She didn’t want to return to Nicholas‘ apartment because she’d never felt safe there, especially after what happened earlier that day. Finally, she decided to clear her mind by walking around Fifth Avenue without any intention of shopping. She bought a large glass of bitter coffee and drank it while walking on the sidewalk.

While stopping in front of the Tiffany store, she heard the horn honk multiple times, and someone yelled her name. She turned to see where the sound was coming from and saw Nicholas waving from inside the car.

Rebecca frowned in surprise. She looked around and wondered if she was being followed.

“Nic? Why are you suddenly here?” She didn’t bother hiding her suspicion.

“You didn’t look at your cellphone, did you? I told you I had a meeting at the X Cafe near here. Becky, do you honestly believe I am a criminal?” Nicholas made a pathetic expression.

Rebecca gave an uneasy smile, “No, of course not! I’m sorry…”

Nicholas smiled, patted her back gently. “I don’t have any plans after this; do you want to go home together? We can eat at my favorite vegetarian restaurant near the apartment,” he said enthusiastically.

Rebecca wanted to refuse, but her tongue was too tight to deliver it, so all she did was nod and get into Nicholas‘ car, ignoring her fear.

“As far as I remember, your schedule was tight until 8 pm, so what were you doing there?” Nicholas asked with his gaze straight at the road.

Rebecca cleared her throat. “The events were cancelled, so I had quite a lot of free tim she said casually. She didn’t want Nicholas to read her mind.

Suddenly, her phone buzzed. It was a message from Cathy: ‘I found something. Meet me at the usual place.

Rebecca glanced at Nicholas, then cleared her throat. “Nic, Cathy needs to see me rigl away to set the schedule and everything. Can you take me to meet her? She is in a caf near here,”

Nicholas’s face hardened. “What about our dinner?” he asked flatly.

“I’ll cook something for us,” said Rebecca, clapping her hands lightly. “Really?” Nichol turned to look at her, holding back a smile. “Yeah, why not? Home cooking is healthic right?” She tried to hard to sound sincere.

“Great!” He exclaimed as he drove his car to the cafe, where Cathy has been waiting fo Rebecca to come. “Thanks, Nic! Don’t forget to take your vitamins,” said Rebecca as sl jumped out of the car.

Nicholas smiled. “See you at home, then?”

Rebecca nodded. “Yeah, see you at home Bye, Nic!” She waved, then walked away. He heart was thundering. She didn’t know why, but she got more and more uncomfortab whenever Nicholas was around her.

She entered the cafe casually, and Cathy was already there. A folder of documents wa spread out on the table in front of her. Rebecca slid into the seat across from her. “Wh did you find?” she asked impatiently.

Cathy glanced around, making sure no one was eavesdropping. “Nicholas doesn’t have glioblastoma. It’s all a lie. And Doctor Theodore’s involved in a massive fraud scheme

Rebecca’s heart skipped a beat. “Are you sure?”

Cathy nodded. “I dug deep. Financial records, emails, everything. Nicholas is part of i too. They’re all in it for the money.”

Rebecca gulped. She put her hand on her chest and leaned back stiffly. “Nicholas? O God!” It felt like a bad dream for her. She didn’t care if it was Mia or someone else, b not Nicholas. They’ve known each other since high school. How could Nicholas hav the heart to do that behind her back?

“Cathy, are you sure Nicholas‘ involved in all these scenes because of money? It doe sound like him. I mean, he owned a law firm muttered Rebecca in disbelief. “They have bigger fish to fry, Becky. You’re not the only target; it’s Harvey. They even worl together with some bad guy from the DEA to make a false accusation to put Harvey jail.”

Rebecca felt a hard slap on her face. She thought Nicholas loved her, but it turned o he just used her for his own benefit.

“They could’ve just killed me. It will make everything easier, isn’t it?” muttered Reb confused. “I mean, why would Nicholas bother to move with me to LA? It doesn’t m any sense.”

Cathy bit her finger, thinking. “Maybe he’s truly in love with you, that’s the reason you’re still alive.” She said it flatly but managed to make Rebecca glare in surprise. made more sense.”

“But Becky, he’s faking his cancer, and that doesn’t sound like someone who’s in lov said Cathy, looking at Rebecca seriously. All content © N/.ôvel/Dr/ama.Org.

Rebecca gulped nervously. “What are you trying to say?” she demanded in a trembl voice.

“He’s obsessed with you, more than anything in this world, and that’s the reason wh he’s willing to do anything so you wouldn’t be together with Harvey,” said Cathy firm

Rebecca felt the world spin faster. “Cathy, I need to throw up!”
