Chapter 19 Do You Like It?
The passionate scene brought a hot blush to her cheeks.
Estella Anderson nudged her arm with an elbow. "Be cool. A smart guy like Mr. Edison must have put up his guard. Try to hide your intentions a little bit."
That reminded her that she was on cloud nine. This is from NôvelDrama.Org.
Taking a deep breath and composing herself, she took the two glasses of cocktails from the bartender's hand and carefully put the powder into one.
The bartender saw what she did and gave her a knowing smile. The two glasses looked the same, and he put a small green olive with tongs in the clean one to help Nancy tell them apart.
Nancy winked at him and said, "Darling, I love you so much!"
Edison Yates hated olives so much he would never pick the one with an olive.
The bartender was one of her few male friends. He worked in the first-floor bar of the Nightcharm Club, where they had met and befriended.
And of her, he was much aware.
He had known her for a while and always kept his mouth shut about her, never telling anyone about her affairs.
Thus, she had faith in him and trusted him with the birthday party, a lucrative deal. He could also back her up.
She walked to Edison Yates and Gwenyth Lovelace, with the two glasses of cocktails in her hands.
As the two sat down, those who had been in the seats around stood up and got away from Edison consciously.
Seeing Nancy coming, Reina O'flagen hurried to vacate the spot next to Edison for her.
Trying to act casual, Nancy handed the cocktails to Edison and Gwenyth.
Gwenyth took the one with an olive but put it on the table instead of drinking it up.
Edison leaned against the sofa in a lazy position with a careless look on his face. He had his arm around Gwenyth's shoulder and never moved it since they walked into the bar.
He didn't take the cocktail from Nancy as if he didn't even see her come.
All the attention from other tables brought a hot blush to Nancy's cheeks, and she placed the glass in front of Edison and sat in the seat opposite to him, not the one next to him.
"Eddie, today's my birthday. Did you prepare any gift for me?"
With his look unchanged, he replied in a flat tone, "I came here. It's the best gift"
"Eddie, I've already known about the agreement."
"Then, what?"
"You don't need to push me like this."
Edison chuckled and fueled his arm around Gwenyth's shoulders, pulling her closer into his embrace, and their bodies were in a clinch.
She smelt sweet, her fragrance filling his nostrils, better than Nancy with her perfume.
He buried his face in Gwenyth's neck.
"Eddie, too bad you're not an actor."
"The agreement is none of your business."
He coldly said, "That's just a piece of paper, and I can dispose of it whenever I want."
"I know you have mental cleanliness so you can't really get intimate with her."
With confidence on her face, Nancy took a glass of wine from the tray a waiter was holding and toasted to Edison and Gwenyth, "Thank you for attending my birthday party! I'll chug it to say my appreciation!"
She raised her head and emptied the glass, then returned it to the tray. After that, she went upstairs to find Reina O'flagen. She seemed indifferent but kept peeking at Edison from time to time.
He did not yet touch the glass on the table.
That set her kind of distraught.
Edison had already noticed she was peeking at him, and having a glance at the two glasses, one having an olive in it that he hated, triggered his sneer.
Nancy was too dumb at this.
Did she think she could fool him?
He looked down at Gwenyth in his arms, who was staying still there to cooperate with him. She was clinging to him, filling his nose with sweetness as he breathed, thus soothing his nerves in a subtle way.
His arms went slowly down to put around her waist.
Her tender and soft skin were comfortable to caress.
"Let's have a drink."
His proposal gained her attention, and after he mentioned the two glasses on the table, she sat up and reached for the cocktails.
He didn't take the one that Nancy arranged for him but the one with an olive in it that Gwenyth took.
"Why switch it since they are the same?"
Gwenyth was confused.
He sent the glass to his lips and sipped from the rim. To others, it looked like he drank a little bit, but in reality, not a single drop passed his lips. He replied, "They're not the same. This one has an olive."
She thought him weird.
In her regard, he hated olives. There was one time the chef of the Yates family added a few olives into his soup, which he later refused to eat. How come he liked olives at the moment?
Would a man's taste change as he grew older?
"You don't wanna grab it?"
Edison raised his eyebrows at her with a smile.
"I'll drink it."
How could she resist if he wanted her to drink it?
If she didn't, he would threaten her with the breach.
All the glasses at the party were for cocktails, only holding a little alcohol.
Gwenyth finished it in one sip.
Edison squinted his eyes with a growing smirk, "How's the taste?"
"Kind of sweet."
"Do you like it?"
"Kinda."
"Want a sip of mine?"
With bewilderment, she looked at him and said, "You've drunk it."
"Is that bothering you?"
"No, it ain't."
He took the glass in his hand to her lips and fed her.
Nancy saw it happening clearly and her hands hanging down were quivering.
It had been difficult for Estella to get those pills, but in the end, they all ended up in Gwenyth's stomach.
It seemed Edison had noticed something, so he didn't touch either glass.
Perhaps he didn't want to take a risk, hence letting Gwenyth drink up both glasses.
No wonder he was Edison Yates!
He was always on guard.
Anger boiled and nearly burst out of Nancy's chest once she thought about how Gwenyth would lose control and hurl herself at Edison after the pills kicked in.
"Are there any pills left?"
She asked Estella.
"That was the only bag."
Estella frowned and spoke in a low voice, "I bent over backwards to get that bag of pills. Did you spike that glass of cocktail with all of them?"
"Yes."
"Why wouldn't you leave some as backup, in case..."
She stopped and choked back her words as Nancy glared at her.
"Say no more about that. The plan went wrong already. Didn't you see that Lovelace woman drink up both glasses?"
Estella, with good vision, had been secretly watching Edison Yates.
Apparently, Edison Yates let the woman drink up both glasses on purpose.
"Is Mr. Edison going to do something to Miss Lovela..."
"Shut your mouth up!"
Nancy Shandy had to suppress her anger and tried to remain collected.
After thinking and thinking, she spoke to Estella, "You find a way to cause a scene and separate Eddie and that slut. Now go ask the guards to come in, and when the chaos takes over, let them take the slut to the room upstairs. Now that she's drugged, they can have a treat tonight."
"Is it really okay?"
Estella felt sort of disturbed.
That woman was Edison Yates' girlfriend no matter what. Even if she was hired, she was working for him at least.
"Do what I told you to do and keep your mouth shut!"
Nancy Shandy blew up and yelled at Estella under her voice.
