Chapter 378
Chapter 378
Sofia’s POV
I watched as Luca hastiky walked away, all the way to the outside of the hall where the exhibition was
being held in. A troubled feeling settled over me a little.
It was obvious that something had happened, something important enough for his guards to come
summoned him so abruptly.
I really hope nothing happens that might ruin today.
I turned around and made my way forward, smiling at a few people who were waving at me. This was
one of the reasons why I was really grateful for Luca’s presence.
He had always been wary about this being safe when I had first pitched my idea to him, and him being
here today in order to guard the entire place with his men and ensure that nothing goes wrong, made
me feel really happy and less worried.
Even though things were not as it used to be before, I’m glad that he was here right now today, doing
this. Proving that even though we were not on the best talking terms, my safety is still utmost priority to
him.
Kayla rushed towards me and engulfed me in a hug, and I found my sinking into her warm embrace.
She had been doing that a lot today, as If sensing that I wasn’t in the best of moves today, like I was
supposed to be.
“How are you fairing?” She demanded after pulling out of the hug and I shrugged.
“Everything is going really fine. The people who all came surpassed my expectations big time, and
everyone loved the arts, which is a really big achievement for me.” I explained and Kayla hummed.
“I know all of these. I’ve been here before the start of the entire thing, remember? I was asking about
how you’re fairing… emotionally.” Kayla rephrased.
“Oh.” I mumbled and then I shrugged.
“I’m okay.” I finally responded after a few seconds.
Kayla narrowed her eyes. “Just okay?”
“I’m very happy, and excited. This is all so overwhelming though.” I responded once again, whispering
the second sentence.
Kayla remained silent after that. She regarded me for a few more seconds before reaching out to tug
me into another hug.
I squeezed her tight, letting myself soak up the emotions I could feel oozing from her. I wanted a hug so
bad, from no one but Luca.
Today was a whole lot for me. I hadn’t expected it to be this overwhelming, coupled with the overload
which my emotions were previously in for the past weeks, made today feel like a whole lot on my
shoulders.
I wanted Luca to envelop me in his arms and hold me tight until I let go of all my worries, but with the
way things currently were between us, I was sure that wasn’t going to be happening any time soon.
After some time, Kayla and I broke out of the hug because the manager who Luca had hired for me,
came towards me to run a few important bits of information through me. Kayla left to supervise some
other things, and once I was done with the manager, I found myself at the far end of the hall, with Ryan.
With the way everywhere was busy today, Ryan and Ethan were part of the guards who were assigned
to watch over me from the inside of the hall. They were dressed in fancy suits, in order to blend in
effortlessly.
This was the first time I’d be seeing Ryan out of his usual uniform. I had caught a few glimpses of him
today in the suit, but I had been too busy to actually pay any attention to him, although we did manage
to hold eye contact a few times.
He currently had a glass of champagne in his hand, which he was twirling around between his fingers.
He nodded his hand at me as I leaned into the wall where he was standing by, while taking in deep
breaths.
“Hi Ma’am, having fun?” He mused and I scowled at him. “Don’t start with that now.” I muttered.
“I was just teasing.” He murmured and then I glanced up at him. The suit he had on was silver in color,
which matched his wristwatch and shoes. He looked completely different from how he usually use to
look. His hair was slicked backwards, making his facial features more prominent and making his jaw
more outlined.
On realizing what I was doing, I averted my gaze and exhaled slowly.
“You look like you need a drink, so here you go.” He murmured after a few moments, holding out his tall
glass of champagne to me.
I stared at it hard, and moving to accept it. He rolled his eyes and took a mouthful of it.
“It’s not poisoned, if that’s what you’re afraid of.”
I scowled at him and tugged the drink of his hand, chugging a few mouthfuls down at once. I knew I
shouldn’t be drinking, I wasn’t of drinking age yet, but I didn’t care right now, cause I do need a drink
right now.
“That wasn’t why, dumbass. We’re outside, and I didn’t want to put you in a difficult situation in case
Luca walks back in and find you giving me a drink.” I muttered after I had emptied the wine glass.
“Oh.” He muttered like he hadn’t thought of that yet, and then I watched as he took a step away from Content (C) Nôv/elDra/ma.Org.
me, creating more space between us.
“Yeah.” I mumbled, shooting glances around and sighing softly in relief because no one was really
paying us attention.
I pushed off the wall as I spoke. “Thanks for the drink, I really needed that.”
“You look very stressed… and you don’t look as happy as I was expecting you to.” He murmured softly
and I bit the inside of my cheeks, not knowing what to say to that.
“You look like you really need a hug too though.” He pointed out after a few more moments and I
gulped, wondering if I really was that obvious to him.
“I guess I do, but I’ll live.” I responded with a small shrug, and then I made my way back into the busy
crowd.
Some time later, a few women drew towards me with their noses in the air. They were dressed in really
glamorous dresses, like they were heading to a royal ball.
I blinked at that in confusion.
