Chapter 89
Alicia snapped back to reality. She shook off his hand with force and looked at him coldly.
She scolded, "If you are here to tell me the good news about your engagement, you don't have to. I already know that! How can I be absent from your... 'engagement' ceremony? It's so grand and full of sincerity!"
Her word was sarcastic, but even though she spurted out them casually, these words were like a sharp knife, stabbing deep into her heart. She recalled her wedding three years ago.
It was in the most famous five-star hotel in Bayton City. Countless prominent figures of the upper class were there. It was even grander than his current engagement ceremony... Yet, she became the joke of the entire city.
Those mocking noises seemed to still linger in her ears to this day!
Bayton City was her hometown, yet she did not know how long she had not returned there. At present, even at the mention of that place, her heart would still tremble.
It was all because of this man!
Ever since she became an adult, her mother had told her that all women had to be careful in regards to marriage.
He had taught her this lesson in the most unforgettable way. She had changed from a noble young lady who was pampered to who she was now, an eager beaver who even cannot be sick!
"Congratulations!" She scoffed sarcastically.
She sneered twice, yet her body could not help but shudder due to the sudden mood swing. It seemed like she had used all her strength to say this word.
"It's not about that! Ally..." he called her.
Jeremy frowned and shook his head. When Jeremy was about to say something, his cell phone suddenly rang and he answered, "Dad-"
Alicia took this opportunity to turn around and left. However, she vaguely heard a woman's name and the word "marriage" from the phone call. She looked at the blue sky and felt an unprecedented sadness welling up in her heart.
It turned out that he had a fiancee!
Miss Castle? She had never heard of a woman with that surname!
From the beginning to the end, she wondered what kind of a liar did she fall in love with!
She quickened her pace and walked away with big strides.
In the supermarket, Alicia bought ingredients and adjusted her mood. She did not want her past to affect her peaceful day ahead.
When she got home, she changed into a casual T-shirt and shorts. She cooked some pasta first. Then, she measured the time and prepared a few more dishes. She was about to make some mushroom soup as well.
As she was busy with her work, she suddenly heard the doorbell and a vague sound of shouting outside the door.
"Hey? What's going on? Did you forget your keys?" she asked. Property © 2024 N0(v)elDrama.Org.
Ever since they were together, the two of them had been living in Landrum Garden. Perhaps it was because Frederick did not come back regularly in the past. Hence, it was rare to see outsiders here
apart from servants who came regularly to clean, repair, and provide supplies.
As she wiped her hands, Alicia ran out and shouted, I m coming!
When she opened the door, she stuck her head out to have a look. From a distance, Alicia saw a man driving a small delivery van. He waved his hands incessantly from outside the iron gate.
She paused. Alicia did not dare to open the door rashly. She shouted from a distance, "Who are you looking for?".
"Is this Miss Blanchard? I am here to deliver something, please sign here-"
"A courier? For me?" she was confused.
The man was wearing an express delivery uniform and the car behind him was also from the delivery company. For the past two years, she did have the habit of shopping online. However, the address she would give them was either her mother's home or the company's. Why was it delivered here? Moreover, this was a mansion area, and the guard at the entrance was very strict. Postal services were usually collected by the guards and checked strictly too. How did he come in?
Her first instinct was that he was a liar. The next was that he was a kidnapper!
There was a distance between her and the gate. However, Alicia did not take another step forward. "I didn't buy anything! Are you sure you got the right address?”
"Miss Blanchard, your address and the last four digits of your phone number are... Miss, I am a delivery man. The entrance guard has checked with the company and my identity card has also been checked by them! Don't worry! I am one of the delivery men who are in charge of the transport of valuable things in the company. Our car is of the highest quality in the company. This is why it looks a little different. I have to send it to you in person, and I need your personal signature on it!”
After checking the information and the address, Alicia was also quite puzzled. It was correct!
She was a little doubtful, but she finally came forward. The delivery man verified the phone number and then handed a box over the gate. She glanced at it and saw that it was covered with a verification stamp on it.
Thus, she asked, "Is it free? Or are there any postal fees?”
After all, the latest scams were to sell goods which cost a few cents but scam people on delivery fees. She looked at the package. She was a little hesitant about opening it. If she wanted to open it, she might have to pay the postal fees first!
"It has been paid for! The other party has paid for it. You just need to sign it and you can take it away!"
"Oh!"
She was finally sure that he was not a liar. After signing, Alicia returned it to him with a smile and said, "Thank you!"
Who would be so kind as to send her a gift?
With the box in her hand, she walked back into the house. Alicia was in a good mood. She had spent fifteen minutes on this delivery. When she returned to the kitchen, she threw the box and rushed to the pot.
"Ah! The water has boiled!"
After putting in all the ingredients, Alicia added some salt to taste.
After cooking the soup, she set up the plates, silverware, and prepared everything else. Then, she remembered that she had received the delivery box. Thus, she got a pair of scissors and opened the box in the kitchen.
She carefully opened the box. When she opened it, there was actually a blue brocade box inside. When she unlatched the blue box, it turned out to contain asymmetrical diamond earrings in the shape of butterflies. Under the light, it was lifelike and sparkling.
On the inside of the box was the logo of the company. There was a lightly printed word stating 'LOVE¹, as well as a line of eye-catching words.
'We are a pair, from now until forever.'
As soon as she set eyes on the "butterfly", she was thoroughly confused. Alicia did not expect Jeremy to be the first person she thought of when she saw such an earring. She remembered that he suddenly appeared at the company, and his attitude seemed to be completely different from before!
"Could it be that he went to look for me earlier in order to give me this?" she thought.
Did he eventually find her residence address? She doubted it, but what did he mean by doing this? Why would he send her a pair of earrings at such a time?
Although Alicia's mind was in a mess, she still clearly remembered that when they were in love, butterflies were their symbol of love. When he proposed to her, he also gave her a pair of diamond earrings.
Just as she was confused about what she should do, the door suddenly opened. She panicked and threw everything into the trash can. She took a deep breath and hurried out the door.
"Hubby, are you back?"
He took off his coat and placed it on the sofa. Alicia beamed when she saw him. "It's about time. Let's eat first!"
