Chapter 77
When he woke up the next day, Frederick's face was still gloomy. Even though Alicia had made a hearty breakfast for him, he did not even enter the dining room but left immediately!
Because of this matter, the relationship between them went south. It was even worse than when they first met.
On this day, Frederick's mood was like an erupting volcano. Alicia's mood was not much better either.
After work, she did not dare to waste any time at all and quickly returned home. She was very diligent and prepared some dishes for him. She was waiting for him to come back so that he could eat.
"There is a saying that everything will be alright after an apology. Once I admit that I was wrong and apologize to him, we should be fine, right?" she thought to herself.
Alicia was lost in her thoughts and felt that she should not worsen the situation. It was better to quell her own anger as soon as possible. However, after nine o'clock, the room was still as silent as the grave.
Her stomach had already begun to protest a few times. After getting up, she went to cut another apple.
By ten o'clock, she could basically guess that he was probably not going to come back.
She then headed to the kitchen to store the food in the freezer. As for the food that could not last long, she would have it as her breakfast the next day. After tidying everything up, she went to get herself cleaned.
When she came out of the bathroom, it was almost eleven o'clock.
She looked at the door, then at the bed, and thought, "Is he coming back? Should I sleep on the bed? He didn't even tell me anything. It was such a waste of my time and energy!"
She eventually lay on the sofa after making the sheets neat on the bed.
At first, she wanted to wait a little longer, but her eyelids began to flop down. Soon, she fell asleep with her eyes half-open.
With a flip, Alicia opened her eyes and realized that half of her body had fallen off the sofa. At this time, the sun was already shining brightly, but the bed was still untouched.
Did he really not return?
This was the first time that he did not come back home!
In the past, he would inform her when he was going on a business trip!
She got up and felt bitter in her heart. It was still early, but she could not go back to sleep at all.
She stood up and decided to go out for a few laps. When she returned, Alicia heated the food from the night before, but she had no appetite at all.
"If he's angry, he can just scold me. What's the big
deal?" she thought.
Alicia ended up going to work grumpily.
Previously, her most relaxed moment was when she was working. She could take a break occasionally and have time for herself too. But ever since her quarrel with Frederick, it was as if time had stopped for her.
She did some translations but her eyes would glance at her cell phone from time to time. She would then lose focus for a moment. Did she have any thoughts? In truth, she did not have any. Her mind was blank.
For several days in a row, Frederick did not come home. When Alicia returned home, she would stare at the bed and stay in a trance until the middle of the night.
After taking a shower one night, she flipped her hair and climbed into bed immediately. She punched his pillow twice and scolded, "How dare you! So mean!"
She did not do anything, did she? She even tried to make peace with him. But, he still had not come home!
"You are a clean freak, aren't you? How dare you not come home, I'll sleep on your pillow!" she complained.
She turned her body and occupied more than half of the bed. She fell asleep on his pillow. Strangely, she slept well that night.
The next day, she felt much better as she saw the sun shining brightly upon waking up.
She changed into a beautiful dress and dressed up nicely. Alicia then went to work. The day passed by quickly, and she did things with high efficiency.
When the bell rang, she got off work. Her good mood seemed to have ended in an instant too. She tapped on the tip of her pen and lay down on the table sadly.
"Should I go home? Must I go home? I think I should go home! Alas, this is so troublesome!" she thought.
She turned off the computer and inadvertently glanced at the calendar on the table. Alicia suddenly thought, "Mom's birthday is coming."
In the past, when her father was still around, her family would celebrate everyone's birthday together. However, they did not celebrate grandly all the time. But, no matter how busy they were, they would at least have dinner together. Every year on her mother's birthday, her father would give her mother a ring. It would either be made from diamond, gold, silver, or wood. They were of many varieties. All of them were her father's love for her mom.
Her parent's love was something she envied the most.
In the past, when her family's conditions were good, there was plenty of temptation on her father's side. However, his father often said, "Even if the flowers get more charming, I cannot abandon my wife." Her mother would then answer, "I will follow you for the rest of my life!"
During these three years of hardship, her mother had fulfilled her promise. They sold off everything they could except for those rings. Her mother would never let go of them. Each ring represented their journey, carrying memories and emotions of their lives.
Therefore, when she was young, she was eager to fall in love and yearned for an unshakeable love. She hoped to hold her child's hand like her parents did and live together with her child. Because of this, she was not only cautious about love, but she was also prepared for it. There was a time in her life that this was a perfect dream she pursued.
However, reality had really slapped her hard in the face.
She had been picky, but she did not expect that in the end...
Her father had been laying on the hospital bed for three years. Both her mother and she were so exhausted from making a living, that they had forgotten about birthdays. Now that she thought
about it, they would only have a simple meal to celebrate their birthday. Last year, when things started to get a little better, she gave her mother a bag.
This year, although it was not too good yet, it was at least not too bad either
A thought suddenly came to her mind. She wanted to give her mother a ring, whether it was for her or for her father. It was also a beautiful wish of Alicia's. She hoped to celebrate her parents' relationship with a ring and hoped that her father could do it in person next year.
With that, she left and went straight to the mall.
Because she had limited resources, Alicia knew that she could not spend too much. Otherwise, her mother would not be happy either. She brainstormed and thought that buying some accessories would be more appropriate. Something that costs a few thousand dollars should be enough. She could just work overtime and do some extra works too.
Now that she had an idea of the price, the only thing left was what to buy.
Even after visiting a few stores, she did not see anything that caught her attention. Alicia looked through plenty of stores as she was not in a hurry. © 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.
She then saw a large and gorgeous jewelry store. She decided to walk in.
"Welcome to G&F Jewel! Miss, what can I do for you?" a saleswoman asked.
Alicia nodded and replied with a faint smile, "I just want to have a look!"
"Okay, this way please!"
The saleswoman was very enthusiastic. Alicia had a good first impression. She also liked 'The Goddess of Fortune', a piece of jewelry she saw.
She headed to the gold counter. Alicia took a look and found a gold ring with diamonds. The ring was an 18K gold inlaid with 3 tiny diamonds. It was very elegant- looking, and it was not that expensive either.
"Hi, I would like to buy this, please!"
At this moment, a pair of butterfly-shaped diamond earrings on the display cabinet suddenly caught her eyes...
