Back in Time: Unshackling From Love (Mikayla Davidson)

Chapter 15

Chapter 15

Dressed in an all–black suit, Jerome straightened his back and entered the door.

Why was he here?

Jerome’s eyes turned cold when he saw Mikayla. He seemed to be suppressing his

emotions.

Why did he look like that? Was he still upset about this morning’s incident?

“Grandpa.”

While Mikayla was still confused, Jerome politely greeted Eduard.

“Jerome, you’re here. You must be hungry. Sit down and have a meal with us. We were waiting for you!”

Eduard warmly invited him. “Sit beside Kay. Your favorite baked fish is right there.”

Upon hearing this, Mikayla pushed the baked fish to the center of the table, saying, “Sit

across from me.”

“Kay, what are you doing? Why are you so rude?”

Eduard reproached her and helplessly looked at Jerome. “Jerome, I spoiled Kay too much. She’s too wayward.”

“You need to be more accommodating to her. Don’t argue with her. She has a kind heart.”

Jerome didn’t refute. Sitting across from Mikayla, he said expressionlessly, “Grandpa, I got it.”

Jerome had received strict etiquette training since childhood. Although he didn’t like Mikayla, he usually maintained a sense of propriety before Eduard.

Of course, there were exceptions.

For example, he insisted on sending Mikayla to a mental hospital in the past life due to Kylie. Back then, he went against Eduard’s pleas. “Since you can’t teach her well, I’ll do it.

Thinking about the events of her past life, Mikayla lost her appetite.

She picked at her food, taking a bite now and then.

Eduard and Jerome chatted about economic news and other matters.

“Oh, by the way, Kay…” Eduard seemed to remember something suddenly. “Many customers liked the sample of the perfume you formulated last time. They asked me when you would launch it,”

“Grandpa, that was just something I did for fun during my free time. You know the ingredients are scarce, I don’t think I can ever launch it.”

“Right, I forgot.” Eduard chuckled and patted his head. “But Kay is a very capable girl. Don’t you think so, Jerome?” Eduard asked Jerome.

Jerome respected the elder. He nodded in agreement.

Seeing Eduard brimming with pride, Mikayla felt a twinge of bitterness and guilt.

Eduard purposely praised her before Jerome to tell him about her strengths. He thought perhaps Jerome would like her more.

Unfortunately, she was always worthless to Jerome. No amount of praise would make a

difference.

After finishing dinner and having some coffee, the sky had darkened. Eduard cheerfully said, “It’s getting late. I won’t keep you around. You should go back and rest early.”

“Grandpa, I’m not going back. I want to stay here for a few days to accompany you, Mikayla said.

She hadn’t seen Eduard in a long time. One day was simply not enough.

Eduard tapped her forehead. “Silly child. Jerome came to pick you up. Why would you stay

here?”

“Jerome, I know you’re busy with work, but when you have time, come visit me with Kay.

“Okay, Grandpa.” Jerome nodded politely.

Before Mikayla entered the car, Eduard held her hand and gently said, “Kay, stop arguing with Jerome. If there’s a problem, talk it out. Husbands and wives shouldn’t hold grudges overnight.”

Mikayla entered the car and huddled in her seat. She then faced the window.

Eduard didn’t believe that she hadn’t argued with Jerome. He had purposely invited Jerome to dinner today to help ease their relationship. Despite his old age, This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.

Eduard was

still worried about her.

Mikayla held back her tears in order not to worry Eduard. But now, she was finding it hard to resist.

“Why did you turn off your phone?” Jerome’s cold voice sounded.

“You either go to Grandma or your grandfather’s place when you do something wrong. Mikayla, can’t you behave yourself?

“Grandpa even said you’re kind–hearted. Look at what you’ve done. You’re nothing close to kind– hearted.”

Seeing Mikayla keeping

on while looking outside the window, Jerome felt annoyed. He

pulled her toward him and said, “You…”

He stopped midway in his sentence.

Tears were rolling down Mikayla’s fair cheeks. Mikayla would usually make a fuss when she cried.

Like a child who couldn’t get candy, she would cry hysterically and ask him why he ignored her and why he wouldn’t accompany or love her.

But now, Mikayla didn’t fuss or make a scene. Tears streamed down her reddened eyes. Her lips were tinted red, and even her delicate little nose was red.

She looked fragile.

Jerome’s heart strangely softened. He released her and softened his voice, saying, “Don’t think you can avoid responsibility for what you’ve done by acting weak.”

Mikayla wiped the tears from the corner of her eyes. “I want to clarify two points. First, I don’t know what I’ve done and why you’re questioning me like that.

“Second, I’ve never been a kind person. Naturally, I have nothing to do with the word ‘ kind.‘ I don’t need a reminder from you!”

“You!”

Seeing Mikayla’s unapologetic expression, Jerome felt ridiculous. Why did he even soften up earlier?

He added, “Mikayla, you’re utterly unreasonable. How dare you act innocent after doing that to Kylie?”

“What did I do to her?” Mikayla was bewildered.
