Epilogue chapter 2
Lexa couldn’t calm down. Nothing helped, neither the morning session of sex with Carter, nor the tea that Leroy forced her to swallow to make her more serene. And yet, what had happened that morning should have been enough to exhaust her, but no, since she was pregnant, her already considerable appetites had grown exponentially. Besides, just thinking about it, she felt her privacy moisten violently. She’d have to think about luring Carter into a corner later, just to relieve her. Tightening her thighs, she continued to pace in their kitchen, not daring to go out because she couldn’t bear to be constantly followed by two other wolves. She was one of the most powerful alphas in the world and needed bodyguards. If that was not stupid ! Lexa couldn’t sit down to do anything, because as soon as she stopped moving, the horrible feeling that tormented her came back to haunt her thoughts, refusing to leave her alone. She was well aware that it was probably just pregnant paranoia, but she couldn’t stop the thoughts from swirling around in her head. She sensed a danger, which threatened not only her, but her child as well. She tightened her arms protectively around her belly, reassured to feel the baby moving under her skin.
– Lexaaaaa! We are here !© 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.
She jumped so hard she nearly fell over and glared at the two intruders, Caleb and his brother. Franklin’s blond head sported lights of all colors and flashing, making the young girl frown. They handed him multicolored bags, exclaiming:
– BABY SHOWER!
That’s how ten minutes later, a scowling Lexa stood in the middle of the extravagant baby shower hosted by her brother and her best friend. Usually, she loved parties, but that day, she couldn’t bear to see people, or all these vibrant colors, or bear this closeness. Her pregnancy made her nervous and hypersensitive, not to mention her dream, which made her ultra-vigilant. She felt her wolf stir inside her, growling at anyone who got a little too close to her. She forced herself to smile at her brother and even participated in a few games, but did not leave her alert state until the last wolves were gone. Once the door closed, she slid down the door, breathing a sigh of relief. She waited there, in the dark, until Carter came inside.
– Lexa?
He was finally coming home from college, in a hurry to be with Lexa again, when he discovered her on the floor, curled up on herself.
He rushed towards her, his heart filled with anguish.
– Lexa, what is it? Is it the baby?
She shook her head and slipped into his arms, her nose buried in his neck.
– So what is it, Sweetheart? I can’t help you if you don’t tell me what’s wrong.
She articulated as she could, tears of anguish compressing her throat:
– I’m afraid …
He frowned, his wolf stood up, on the lookout for the danger threatening his companion and his unborn child.
– what are you afraid of?
– I – I don’t know, probably pregnant woman scares but… I have this … this feeling that doesn’t want to go away… As if a danger was hanging in the air.
He tightened his embrace and brushed his lips against her forehead.
– Don’t worry, Lexa. Nothing will happen to you. Whatever it is, I’ll protect you from it, I promise.
He picked her up in his arms and carried her to their bed, where he rocked her to sleep, his hand resting on her round belly. He couldn’t help but watch her sleep, and monitor her sleep to make sure the girl slept as peacefully as possible. He hadn’t said anything to her but… He too had perceived this feeling of threat which floated in the air as surely as the golden vibrations which surrounded the young woman. Closing his arms around his soul mate, he stood guard all night, feeling the anguish rising within him.
