Arrogant Man VS Unyielding Woman

Chapter 338 Painful Memory

Chapter 338 Painful Memory

"Miss Tang," Calvin called Jesse out of her reverie. "If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, it would be

extremely hard for me to believe that someone as gorgeous and smart as you would sulk around in a

party like a small girl who lost her favorite toy. That truly surprises me," Calvin said with glimmering

eyes.

"Who are you?" Jesse turned to Calvin and glared at him with her eyes wide open. Fire seemed to

spark in her burning eyes and she clenched her fists like she wanted to punch Calvin. It was obvious

that Calvin's talks multiplied her anger.

"I am Calvin Li." Calvin looked at Jean with a smug smile feeling happy to have gotten her attention.

Jean's words failed to anger him and somewhere deep down he knew she was really sad.

"Calvin Li..." Jesse looked at him with a hint of recognition and confusion. Thinking hard trying to place

him, she said,"You look familiar. Do I know you?"

As a matter of fact, Jesse didn't remember seeing his face before. Yet she thought she knew him from

somewhere. 'Where did I see him?' Jesse thought and started to think of all the people she met in the

past few years.

"It seems that I was born with a face that's hard to remember. Or else how can someone forget their

childhood neighbor," Calvin said while he smiled. Even now, Calvin wasn't offended because he was a

cool and even-tempered guy.

"What do you mean? Are you..." Jesse cried out when it registered. Now she stared at him completely

startled. She hadn't expected to see an old friend here today.

"I am honored that you finally recognized me. Honestly, I am surprised. I thought you only cared for

Zed." Calvin slightly smiled at her. He uttered these words in a calm tone.

Nevertheless, upon hearing the mockery implied in his words, Jesse felt embarrassed and her face

flushed red.

"You can't blame me for that. I was just eight years old when you moved away. I surely can't remember

you so clearly," Jesse said sounding defensive. As soon as she spoke, Jesse frowned and looked at

him. She added,"I remember that you were already fifteen when you and Ron moved away. But you

have changed completely! You look nothing like you did back then. Did you get plastic surgery done?"

Jesse still couldn't match the man in front of her with the fifteen years old boy in her memory.

"Oh please, I haven't changed all that much. It is just that you have eyes only for Zed," Calvin argued.

"Anyway, you are getting more and more beautiful, so how come I'm not allowed to become

handsome?"

"Right. I do remember that your parents were both good-looking. And that's why everyone laughed at

you and asked you whether you had mutations in your genes since you didn't look good at that time.

During those days, only Christina would hang out with you but she..."

Jesse swallowed the rest and sighed with pity in her eyes.

Christina was so beautiful and also very kind, but in the end, she...

Thinking about that, Jesse couldn't help but feel sorry for Christina.

As soon as she noticed that Calvin also fell into silence, Jesse looked up and planned to break the

silence. However, when she saw the pained look on his face, she was stunned and frozen in place.

When they were kids, everyone refused to hang around with Calvin since he looked fat and ugly. But

Christina was the only exception.

Only Christina didn't mind his appearance and enjoyed his company. She didn't allow anyone to bully

him and took good care of him.

Therefore, it must have been extremely painful for Calvin after Christina died.

"I'm sorry! I shouldn't have brought up Christina." Jesse apologized profusely to Calvin and felt guilty

for being so stupid.

"It's all in the past. I'm pleased to know that you still remember her." With a forced smile, Calvin tried to

hide his sadness. He didn't want to hurt Jesse.

"She took good care of everyone at that time, just like a big sister. I believe no one will forget her,"

Jesse replied thinking about the good old days. Thinking more, she added,"We all feel sorry for her

death. By the way, I still can't figure out why such an optimistic person commit suicide."

As soon as her words dropped, Jesse sighed heavily, looking depressed.

"Yeah, why did she commit suicide?" Calvin muttered to himself. The pain in his eyes was evident to

Jesse.

"Calvin," Jesse called feeling guilty at once for continuing the subject. In order to change the

atmosphere, she looked at him and asked,"you didn't bring a date? May I have the honor of dancing

with you?"

Calvin shook his head slightly and refused Jesse's invitation. He replied,"You go ahead! I'll stay here for

a while." Calvin hadn't come out of the painful memory yet so he turned Jesse down politely.

Jesse only felt worse so she said,"I'll stay with you then! Where have you been all these years? How

come I didn't hear any news about you?"

"I went abroad and have been living there. I didn't come back until very recently," Calvin answered as

he looked at Jesse. Now Jesse felt good because Calvin's mood was lifted.

"Oh, I see! No wonder we didn't hear anything about you and Ron." Jesse nodded her head slightly

and put on a big smile. "You are not a kid anymore. Do you have a girlfriend now?"

A weird look flashed on Calvin's face but it lasted only for a few seconds so Jesse didn't notice it.

Calvin shook his head and replied,"No. I've been busy abroad and didn't have time for it. How about

you? I still remember that you liked following Zed around all the time when you were a kid. I thought

you two would make a good couple. But to my surprise, Zed got married to Jean in the end,"

Calvin asked with curiosity wanting to know what went wrong.

"I was so proud and arrogant. All I can blame is myself for my situation. Things never go well with me

and I have no one," answered Jesse not wanting to pursue the topic. She had a deep sadness

displayed on her face, and it seemed that she had nothing more to say except mocking herself.

Upon hearing what Jesse said, Calvin figured it out instantly. He didn't say anything but stared at Jesse

with an understanding.

"Don't look at me like that," Jesse replied feeling embarrassed from his piercing look. "A heartbreak is

not a big deal. I don't need your pity."

"I am not showing pity, Jesse. It's just that you seem a little different from before." Calvin shook his

head and gave a sigh as he added,"You used to be brave and decisive. If it were before, you would

sacrifice everything just for Zed. But now you indeed surprised me."

"They are already married. What can I do now?" Jesse put on a bitter smile and then added,"Never

mind. It's better not to talk about it."

"Alright." Calvin nodded his head as he agreed with Jesse. He slightly turned his head and saw the

couple who were dancing. The look on Calvin's face darkened immediately.

Jesse sensed Calvin's strange look and couldn't help but look at the direction he was staring at. The

moment she saw the sweet couple, a hint of jealousy flashed on her face. Jesse gnashed her teeth and

clenched her fists.

Although Jesse was not willing to admit it, the tender look and the smile with which the couple gazed

into each other's eyes spoke volumes about their love. 'Zed and Jean are madly in love, ' realized This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.

Jesse.

She also realized there was nothing Jesse could do to change the situation at the moment.

Feeling defeated, she let out a sigh before she raised her head and put back her confident face.

'No matter how much you love each other, I will make sure this doesn't last, ' Jesse made up her mind

with a devilish smile on the tip of her lips.

With a soft tune, the music and dance ended. Everyone left the dance floor with their dates reluctantly

like they wanted to dance more.

Holding Jean's hand, Zed walked out of the dance floor with a genuine smile on his face.

"Jean..." A voice called loudly silencing everyone else in the room. Every eye turned toward that

person. After everyone figured out who it was, the recognition was reflected on their faces.

The room was filled with various reactions; some were surprised, some were curious whereas others

were fuming with anger like Zed.

Jean was surprised to see the man walking towards her. Not wanting him to come any further, she

looked straight into his eyes and asked,"What are you doing here?"
