Chapter 22
Chapter 22
Adrien went into the hall and got to his seat in the first row according to the guidance of the invitation cara. People in the first and the second rows all looked at him curiously. Adrien seemed to be the boss, and his two followers should be his secretaries. Why could they sit in the first row?
“Mr. Higgins! It’s really you!” Hester saw Adrien coming to the first row when she was chatting with David.
Adrien followed the voice and saw Hester.
“Ms. West, nice to see you. Yo, isn’t it Ms. Olson? It turns out that Corestar Group also received the invitation to the auction.”
Adrien’s words were meaningful. On the one hand, he explained that his invitation card was not from Corestar Group. On the other hand, he hadn’t expected that Lilianne would come with Celia.
His words made other people know what Lilianne had done at once.
“Oh. Mr. Higgins, nice to see you here.” Lilianne managed a smile.
“Is this your secretary? What’s her name?”
“Hello, Mr. Higgins, I’m Celia.”
“Great. You come with your secretary instead of me. Ha ha, it’s cool. I also take my subordinates here. This is my butler. Sylvia Earp, and this is my assistant, Darcy Earp.
“Nice to meet you. I’m Mr. Higgins butler. Sylvia Earp.”
Hester found that Sylvia looked very familiar to her.
“Excuse me. Are you the butler of Mr. Harold Brooks in the Brooks family in Sunrise City? Hester asked.
After Hester asked this question, all the people in the first two rows quieted down and looked at Sylvia in surprise.
The Brooks family was ranked first among the four families in Sunrise City. It was said to be a very ancient and huge family. Nobody knew how rich it was. The assets it had were at least worth trillions of dollars.
“Did we see each other before?”
“Oh! It’s really you! I met you a few times with my teacher in the Brooks family when I was an intern in Sunrise City. But why are you working for Mr. Higgins? I remember the Earp family has been working for the Brooks family for generations.”
“I can’t tell you the reason. Mr. Higgins is capable and also has a great background. Wise people will choose a better boss. It’s my honor to work for Mr. Higgins.”
Sylvia’s words made Hester more curious about Adrien. Now Adrien had the highest position in Hester’s heart.
“Is Mr. Higgins from the Higgins family in Trified?” Hester blurted out. Sylvia shook her head, while Adrien didn’t hear what Hester said.
Lilianne, who heard the conversation between Hester and Sylvia, was regretful. She finally realized how stupid she had been. It was a piece of cake for Adrien to solve the problem of her company, but she had ignored Adrien many times and kept a cold attitude toward him. She didn’t even know Adrien was actually the boss of her company!NôvelDrama.Org content.
“Hello, ladies and gentlemen, good evening. Welcome to the auction tonight. I’m the host, Derek Nash….
The auction began.
Adrien sat in the middle of the three seats and asked in a low voice.
“Sylvia, what should I buy at such an auction?”
“Mr. Higgins. I personally suggest you should buy more antiques. Of course, you don’t have to if you have a lot in your house Antiques are common assets for a big family. Many rich people collect them and pass them to next generation. A big family needs the effort of at least three generations.
“Well, I’m also interested in antiques. I’ll buy as many as I can.”
Guided by Sylvia, Adrien bought all the 12 antiques at very shocking prices. Nobody else bid for them, because all the people in the first three rows had known how powerful Adrien’s background was, so they kept silent when Adrien offered the prices.
It was reasonable. Even Adrien’s butler was from the first family in Sunrise City, which meant Adrien was very rich and powerful. Nobody thought they could win Adrien.
Of course, they didn’t intend to check Adrien’s identity, because they were sure they would get nothing.
The mysterious family would cover its members‘ true identities. Perhaps one of its members was just an ordinary employee in an ordinary company but one day he or she would show shocking wealth..
Adrien bought 12 antiques and spent more than seven million dollars. When he paid for them, there was a warning from the System.
“The auction won’t upgrade the System.”
Adrien didn’t care about it. His purpose was to collect antiques, not to upgrade the System.
After paying for the antiques, Adrien didn’t buy anything else like land or jewelry. He didn’t like them at all. At the banquet after the auction, a lot of people came to Adrien and greeted him, which made him a little tired.
Fortunately, Sylvia was an expert in this field. She could deal with those people easily.
Lilianne and Celia stood next to Adrien. Lilianne wanted to say something.
“Ms. Olson, Mr. Higgins is just there. What are you waiting for?”
“Celia, you can’t understand my feelings. I did something wrong.”
“What do you mean. Ms. Olson?”
“After Mr. Higgins bought the company. I didn’t take him seriously and didn’t regard him as my boss. Instead, I disobeyed him many times and asked other employees to disobey him. I didn’t know he was so wise that his decision brought great benefit to the company, and neither did I know he had such a powerful background. Corestar Group received the invitation of the auction, but I didn’t give it to Mr. Higgins. Now I have to ask him for help. It’s so embarrassing.”
“But…” Celia also had no idea.
Adrien felt bored when he stayed here with nothing to do. He left quietly when there was an opportunity.
“Sir, we have told the host the address of your house. They will send the antiques to Wonders Apartment as soon as possible.”
“Great. Thank you, Sylvia. But I will not attend such banquets anymore. It’s so boring. Those people just flatter me with hypocritical faces
“Ha, it’s normal, sir. I just saw the two from Corestar Group seemed to have something to say, but they didn’t say it.”
“Corestar Group is falling. I will sell its stocks tomorrow and won’t help them. If Lilianne had asked me at the very beginning, I would have helped her. After all, I’m the boss of Corestar Group. But she just hid it from me and didn’t give me the invitation card to the auction. It seems that she doesn’t take me seriously, so why do I have to help her? That small company doesn’t mean a lot to me at all.
“You are right, sir.”
