KNIGHT
“Are you going to ignore me the whole time?”
We were all exhausted, but we were finally back at the vineyards, and I didn’t want Nirvana to stay angry at me. So far, she was doing a great job of ignoring me.
“I need to talk to Kailin. I’ll see you later.” She just took off her jacket and went to the door.
“Nirvana, you’re not leaving this room until we talk.” It was not a request but an order.
Her head snapped in my direction, her eyes narrowing. “What are you going to do?”
“We’ll talk.”
“I don’t wanna talk, okay? Not now. I’m tired and need a good friend, and you’re definitely not my friend right now.”
“I already apologized.”
“Did you? First and foremost, I’m an adult. I’m not your wife. Yes, I’m your mate, but you can’t tell me what to do.”
“I don’t want you getting hurt, and we’re not even close to ending this madness. We don’t have a vaccine or a cure for this black virus, and if you get hurt, what will happen to our mission? It’s over, Nirvana. We can’t do it without you. That’s why we have to keep you safe all the time. When this is over, I swear to Goddess, you can do whatever you want: go skydiving, bungee jumping, even race on a dirtbike or drive a monster track. You’re free to jump from country to country. I won’t stop you.”
“So you don’t care if I get hurt because we already saved the day?”
“See?” I pointed at her. “This is your problem. You think I don’t care about you. What I want for you is to be happy, and if doing something dangerous and reckless will make you happy, then by all means, because I trust you will take care of yourself. This battle is bigger than all of us. Millions of supernatural being’s lives are at stake here, Nirvana. This is not just about us.”
“I know. I’m trying my best to stay sane because the longer we’re here, the more people will get hurt and die because of the virus, but we can’t save them all, and the people from the Werewolf Council are not doing their jobs. Who else would try saving lives if not us? I may not know much but lives matter, Knight. And I want you to know, whatever it takes, you won’t stop me from doing what’s right when Cyrius will come to kill us all.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“I will kill him. I never killed anyone, but he’s taken a lot of lives. And I won’t hesitate.”
“Okay.” I stepped closer to her and caressed her cheek with my thumb. “Just don’t play a hero. It’s my job. Whatever it takes, I’ll stop you from dying.”
She nodded and looked at me. I still saw something in her eyes no matter how hard she tried to hide- I still saw it. She was terrified.
“We’re here, sweetheart. We will fight together, and no matter how it ends, you promise me you will save yourself.”
“I don’t think I can do it. If something happens to you-”
“Use your mind. Don’t let your emotions-”
“That’s bullshit. I will follow my heart, Knight.”
I sighed exasperatingly. “Do you always do what I tell you not to do?”
“You’re only the boss of me in bed. Nothing more.”
I found myself smiling. “Is that so?”
“Yeah. That’s what you’re only good at, big bad alpha.” She smiled, too.
“I’ll prove you wrong.” I cupped her head and kissed her.
She sighed against our lips and kissed me back. Wrapping my arms around her, I deepened the kiss and made sure I poured all my emotions into it so she never doubted what I felt for her, that she was more than just my mate. She was everything to me, and I couldn’t afford to lose her again. I would rather die than watch her die trying to save us.
I would be happy in the other life knowing she survived. She would still find someone better than me. I would rather take my own life than watching die in my arms again or sacrifice herself to end Cyrius’s madness.
I took her to bed, pulling off her shirt over her head. Then I kissed her again, down her jaw, while unhooking her bra. She was also busy unbuttoning my jeans, pulling my boxers down, and grabbing my cock into her hand.
My dick jerked against her grip as she stroked it lazily while I had my mouth on her tit, sucking and nipping her nipple.
She moaned, arching her back.
“Alpha, please tell me you can hear me. We have a problem.” Pissed off with the interruption, I growled when Kaleb’s voice came to our pack link. He sounded terrified, and my stomach just did a nosedive.
Nirvana froze. “What’s wrong?”
“I hear you, Kaleb,” I mind-linked him. “What seems to be the problem? Make sure it is important, or I swear to Goddess I’ll come and punch your ugly face hard.”
“We’re here near the northwest border. I think you should come and see it for yourself.”
Groaning, I looked at Nirvana. “I’ll be there.”NôvelDrama.Org: text © owner.
“Something happened?”
When I tried to kiss her again, she pressed her finger against my lips. “We should go. Don’t worry, we’ll continue this later.”
“I’m sorry, sweetheart.” I got up, groaning. My dick was still out and hard, and I saw a smile on her lips when her gaze landed on my crotch.
She quickly grabbed her shirt and bra and ran towards the bathroom.
Breathing hard, I tried to calm myself. I fixed my jeans, washed my face, and changed my shirt.
“Wait for me down. I’ll be there quickly. Maybe you should call Dylan. Whatever the problem in the border, maybe he can help.” Nirvana grabbed some clean shirts in the closet and tied her hair.
“See you down.” I walked out of the room and went downstairs. I instantly saw Dylan, Luka, and McKaye.
“Where’s Vana?” McKaye asked.
“She’ll be here in a minute. Kaleb didn’t tell me the details. What’s going on?”
“He didn’t tell us either,” Luka replied, “but I have a feeling it’s not good.”
Nirvana rushed downstairs. “Grandpa just called me. One of his pack is bitten by an infected werewolf, and his alpha is panicking. I want him to come to us. Califf hasn’t picked up his call.”
“No. It’s dangerous here.” I held her hand as we went to the driveway. I picked up the helmet and put it on her head. “I’ll ask a favor from Alpha King. I will send Case to stay with Alexander for the time being.”
“You would do that?”
“Why are you still surprised?”
“Thank you.” She smiled. “I could kiss you right now, but that can wait.”
“Hop on, beautiful.”
She climbed onto my bike and held onto me tightly. The guys followed us behind from the Pickup.
“I have a bad feeling since we’re in Inverness. This is about the virus, isn’t it?”
“I’m not sure, sweetheart, but we’re about to find out.” I drove faster toward the location where Kaleb was waiting.
Kaleb, Tucker, Maddox, and the twins were there, and I instantly saw why they called me urgently.
“What the fuck?” I stopped my bike abruptly.
“Oh, my God. I think I’m going to be sick.” Nirvana got off my bike and rushed to take off her helmet.
“Who the fuck did this?” McKaye stared at the wolf’s head hung on the barbwire.
It was not just an insult to what we were, but someone just killed an animal to send us a message.
Nirvana came to me. “This message is for you, Alpha.” She did an emphasis on the word alpha. She didn’t need to do that. I knew exactly who did this.
“Why did you say that?” Luka said.
“This is not the head of the werewolf, right?”
“Yes, Luna. This is just a wolf,” Kaleb said.
“Then Travis is back for his revenge.”
