Branch Twenty Six
The words of Xavier indicated that he would be eating the meals she prepared from now on. It felt like running the ten-kilometer race and passing by the first kilometer. It seemed small and insignificant because she still had a long way to go before they both became comfortable enough to address each other as friends but she felt elated and happy at least now it showed he that he trusted her.
“And dinner too?” Jessica asked.
If she made progress she could as well push her lick and try it.
“I usually get back very late so I doubt we can have dinner together. I have a lot of work on my plate” Xavier answered in a calm tone.
“Oh it’s no worries,” Jessica said smiling. It was really a breakthrough he decided to have breakfast every day.
The rest of dinner was silent and comfortable. Since Jessica had been able to get to making money from his investment she left it at that. She had all she needed at this point.
Somehow as she sat her mind drifted to her aunt who had non-stop called her since she got married. She knew what her aunt wanted and she did not want her to meet Xavier. She was going to give her aunt all she got from her paid leave and the house rent at the end of the month.
She knew her aunt would be gone for a while until the money she received was finished and then some back for more. Her aunt was a gambling and drinking expert. All she ever spent her money on was trying to gamble and drink.
After dinner, Jessica joined the house staff to clean up the table. Although they were very uncomfortable Jessica was even more uncomfortable with another person cleaning up after her in the house.
“Good night young master” Jessica heard Roselle’s voice as she greeted Xavier who was going upstairs.
Jessica poured herself a cup of coffee and added enough milk and sugar so she could still go to bed. She stood in the kitchen taking small sips of the coffee as she waited for the house staff to wash the dishes. She would only feel bad if she left them all alone to do them.
After the dishes were done Jessica went upstairs. She pushed the door open. She could not still believe that she was sharing a room with the most eligible bachelor of Chiachester City. This is property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
She entered the walk-in closet when she discovered that Xavier was not on the bed. The silence in the room was an indication that he was not inside.
She was quite exhausted from both visiting Dawson and cooking a full spread, she took off get makeup and clothes, and got into her pajamas. She slid into bed and slept off almost immediately.
Meanwhile, Xavier was inside the game room on the phone with his lawyer. He had chosen to use the game room in case Jessica stumbled in when he was talking with the lawyer concerning the contract.
“Mr. Delgado, I don’t think the terms you listed would be in your favor,” Mr. Marcus said.
He had been the family lawyer. He was the son of the owner of Gates and Sons law firm at the moment and was in charge of the Delgado legal business.
Anyone could say that the Gates and Sons law firm is what it is today because of the Delgado family and other influential wealthy people of Chiachester City.
“Just put it that way” Xavier responded.
He saw right through Jessica that she was neither interested nor moved by his money. He had tried to flaunt it all over her face since day one. He gave her an unlimited card to use for shopping but she only used barely two hundred bucks and she started paying back by trying to send the money to his phone. He had rejected each attempt.
He clearly thought that since they were going to be divorced in a year’s time she would ask for compensation she did not instead she asked for investment which she would pay back.
He guessed all young women of the present generation were not necessarily after money contrary to what he had faced as time passed.
He was a beauty to behold but girls only flocked around him when they knew his family was loaded. Even when he traveled abroad the girls who approached were always after the money he had. They always wanted him to spend and buy luxury items for them. He had always disagreed and left them to their fate.
“Okay then, I would process it that way sir,” Marcus said tiredly.
For the last ten minutes, he had been going back and forth with Xavier trying to change his mind and giving him all reasons to do so but Xavier had made up his mind and was not changing it.
His answer was the same with every reason that Marcus brought up.
“Okay then, I’ll expect you tomorrow morning so we can sign the contract,” Xavier said.
“Good night Mr. Delgado,” Marcus said before dropping the phone.
Marcus shook his head to himself before taking a sip of the whiskey in his hands. His client was being stupid, he was sure of it. He knew Xavier you be a reasonable and calm person. He could not believe that he would make a decision that would put him at risk of global embarrassment and disdain.
“Who was that?” Gold asked.
Gold was Marcus’s girlfriend. She came closer to him and stood with him.
“It’s a client and it’s a secret” he replied with a smile.
“I know you’ll say that” Gold responded.
“Just come to bed now” Gold replied leaving a kiss on his cheek.
“I’m coming” Marcus replied rolling his eyes with a smile on his face
