Branch Thirty
“Matchmaker? Do you finally want to get married?” Roselle asked.
She felt a sting of disappointment. She thought that Dawson would stay single till he died as she did. She kind of understood that he was lonely in the hospital just laying around all day and any other woman out there would be thrilled to marry into the Delgado family even if it meant marrying the old man.
They would snag a few billion and live a lavish lifestyle. They would get to be called Lady Delgado and live in an exquisite mansion when he dies.
“I don’t think Xavier would be okay with the idea,” Roselle said voicing her concern and masking them as Xavier’s.
“Why would I want to get married again? I had a beautiful first marriage and the person I would have loved to marry for the second time decided that I was not worthy enough” Dawson said giving her a knowing smile.
“Ohh” she commented feeling her cheeks getting hot.
She was relieved that he was not getting married. She was not planning to accept his proposal but it was as if she needed the assurance that he stays single.
“Who am I playing matchmaker for?” she asked now that her fears had been dispelled.
“Xavier and Jessica,” Dawson said and Roselle looked at him puzzled.
“What do you mean? I should play matchmaker for a married couple?” Roselle asked.
As far as she was concerned Xavier and Jessica were married and even shared a room which was enough for her. She was very ignorant of the fact that Xavier and Jessica. were in a marriage of convenience.
Since she was a mind-your-business kind of woman and barely engaged in the staff gossip she did not notice the tension between the couple and the way they addressed each other.
“Just as I expected from you,” Dawson said very unsurprised that Roselle did not notice all he noticed even when he was not at home with them.
“What do you mean?” Roselle asked drawing up a blank face.
“Isn’t obvious that those love birds in your eyes are strangers who just got married off the bat?” Dawson said emphasizing the words love birds.
The clues then began to make sense. But then she thought back to the hearty huge breakfast that Jessica had made this morning. It would be weird if she was making such got a strange man she did not fancy.
“But the young lady prepared quite a mighty spread for breakfast this morning,” Roselle said informing Dawson of the improvement.
“That’s interesting, Xavier ate breakfast at home?” Dawson asked.
Ever since Xavier enrolled in college and got in he stopped eating breakfast at home. Even while in high school, he skipped a couple of times. Almost everyone knew it was his way of grieving his mother. Now that he was having breakfast at home what did it mean?
“I need you to help me in pushing them into awkward situations where they have no choice but to rely on each other,” Dawson said.
He was desperate for results and willing to do anything.
“Like what?” Roselle asked.
“They already stay in the same room and all” She added.
She couldn’t see what more they needed to do to push on each other…
“Convince him to take her on honeymoon. He listens to you but throws a tantrum at me every time” Dawson said.
He was sure that by spending time away from every other person they would grow on each other.
“Okay, I would,” Roselle said agreeing with him. She did love Xavier and her heart softened towards Jessica so she was all in on the plan.
Roselle stayed for a few minutes and chatted with Dawson before she decided to leave. She left for the market and a few minutes later Jessica came in with all smiles.
Dawson was not going to be bored today at least. As they got talking Jessica suddenly asked a question.
“Do you want to come home for a while?” She asked him.
He was confused. Ever since he was diagnosed he had been living on this hospital bed. Jessica on the other hand was worried he might be bored from not seeing others. She believes if he was home he would feel better seeing others around.
“Come home?” he asked.
He liked that she called it home but he did not know if it was the right choice to go home. If he was going to die soon why did he have to be a nuisance before his death?RêAd lat𝙚St chapters at Novel(D)ra/ma.Org Only
“I think I’ll very much like waking up to see you every morning and bidding you good night every day,” Jessica said.
She was being honest with him. To she grew up in an orphanage. A full house is the best kind.
“You don’t think I’ll be a nuisance?” he asked concerned.
“Why would you think that? Everyone at home would be pleased to have you there” Jessica said reassuring him.
She knew that most sick people wanted to avoid inconveniencing others as much as possible.
“I would think about it if you do something for me as well,” Dawson said.
He did not see it as something that needed to be done for himself. He saw it as a favor that Jessica wanted and that he would be back at the hospital in no time. She would eventually get tired of doing all the work that his caregiver does.
“What can I do?” She asked eager for him to come home.
“Go on honeymoon with your husband”
Jessica was shocked by the strange request. She knew that there was no way she could bring it up with her husband. He may accuse her of being a good digger like before. She needed to be cautious.
“I am so sorry I would not be able to bring that up with Mr. Delgado,” Jessica said.
She would never do that. Xavier would flare up and she would be left in the remains of the ruins. After all, she was the one who was going to benefit least from the relationship.
“Do not worry I am not asking you to bring it up with Mr. Delgado” Dawson said mocking her by repeating the way she addressed Xavier.
Jessica understood what Dawson did there but she was more comfortable addressing home formally. He had shown different shades of color and she was tired of peeling a new layer every single time.
“I still can not agree to go,” Jessica said.
If Dawson brought it up to her husband and she agreed to go he might see it as a poly between the two parties. She was uninterested in being called something she was not. She has had enough of that to last a lifetime.
“If I or any other person can manage to convince Xavier would you go?” he asked.
He already had his plans but he wanted to plan with hers.
“I don’t think so,” Jessica said.
“You have to go,” Dawson said.
“I’m putting In all these efforts, so do me a favor and do when I set it up okay?” he added in a question.
“About you moving home?” Jessica asked trying to change the subject.
“I would come back home when you are back from your honeymoon. No negotiations. No questions. No complaint” Dawson said as a final word.
He made his decision and was going to stand by it.
Following the conversation, Jessica and Dawson continued chatting. They never ran out of things to talk about. Jessica found it hard to leave his side but finally did.
She thought of getting an early lunch by herself in one of the restaurants nearby. She entered one that the driver recommended and was ushered into a VIP room because the manager recognized her.
So these were the perks of being married to or being a billionaire?
She was loving it but she was not sure if she should.
